Title: So what happened to Bruce Wayne?
Post by: AncientSpirit on March 12, 2009, 04:15:27 PM
Is he dead?  Is he retired?   What caused him to be so?

(Once I heard that there was going to be a new Batman, I stopped reading.  I guess I'm too old school to want anyone but Wayne ... and had a sense of deja vu from the time that Bruce's back was broken and someone else took up the cowl, etc.)

With DC having so much success bringing back original characters like Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, is this a new DC formula?  Get rid of the new, then bring them back years later.  (It seems like Superman in going away for a year to the New World of Krypton, similiar, but not the same as killing him off.  Oh, wait ... they already killed off Superman once.)

He's presumed dead,
Spoiler
but may actually be alive somewhere & sometime in the future, after going toe to toe with Darkseid.

Yeah he...
Spoiler
shot Darkseid in Final Crisis #6, and was zapped by the Darkseid's funky many angled eyebeams - the Omega Effect. He's seen at the end of Final Crisis sharing a cave with Kamandi as he (Kamandi) dies of old age, I guess with the implication he'll find his way back because he's Batman.

If you ask me, continuity should be abolished.
All this, "Barry Allen is dead, Barry Allen is alive" stuff has got stale. Who cares if there many universes, 1 or 52? There are as many possibilities for these characters as a writer can imagine! I'd settle for a much bigger emphasis on Elseworlds, JLA Classified style stories and even things like the Solo project than the constant universe shuffling we have now.

Yes, i agree... nearly wholeheartedly.
What I want is this...
Semi-weekly comics of the big characters (like amazing spiderman now) that are continuity driven. Then, give creative teams the freedom to create good stories, with amazing art, regardless of continuity.

For example, DC would be restructured like this:
Superman - 3 times a month, continuity driven, rotating teams - focusing on Superman and extended family
Action Comics - 1 a month, special great stories - anything goes
Batman - 3 times a month, continuity driven, rotating teams - focusing on Gotham and Batman family
Detective Comics - once a month, anything goes
Green Lantern - 3 times a month, anthology style with main stories about the corps, and backups about anything, by any creative team
Adventure Comics - once a month, tying up all of the space based adventures
Brave and the Bold - 3 times a month, anthology style - this will replace 52,countdown, trinity - although Wednesday Comics does sound like it will be interesting. This should focus on team-ups and individual adventures
All-Star Comics - The team book, This one should be an anthology for the  different teams, JLA,JSA, Titans etc.

Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow should remain monthlies but put under the same editor
