Title: mentaldamage question in ffx3
Post by: wickerman on February 09, 2009, 03:38:04 PM
Hey powers-that-be,

If I use the control center to swap out an effect for mental damage, will resistance to mental attacks, passive defenses or the mindless attribute affect the damage, or is it just direct damage?

EDIT:

Ok i reread the mental damage entry in the manual - go figure!

So mindless blocks it totally.

If I understand the rest as written, you can resist it as if it were the original attack

- If you took it as panic (mental attack) and you have a 50% passive defense vs mental attacks, it fails 50% of the time.

What I am asking, I guess, is if you have disciplined (resistant to mental) can you take 1/2 damage or does it just reduce the chance that you will take the damage at all?

It's the latter. The damage is either resisted (via attribute- or material-based resistance) or blocked via a defense. But, if the state takes effect, the state is then swapped out and the magnitude of the applied damage is not altered by resistances or defenses.
