Cross-server play:

QuoteJuly 19th 2010
Jens Andersen
Not sure what the confusion is that we need to confirm but here goes...ps3 and pc will play on their own servers at launch. This decision was made final just a week before E3, before then we really weren't sure how it would pan out. There are both design and business reasons why the decision was made. On the design side I can tell you that ... See Morecommunication is a big consideration. The two communities are used to differernt things and those options don't always play nice with each other in our experience. The biz side isn't simply a question of what makes more money, contrary to what people are assuming. There are lots of complicated issues because this type of service hasn't been very well explored. I honestly believe both types of servers will have sufficient populations. And when other games of this type have run into that problem they simply merge servers to make sure populations are in balance. We've always said we hoped we could do this, technically it is possible, but there are pros and cons in each option. This one made the most sense for us at launch.

From what I can tell I'm not sure I'll like either one. Champions doesn't look nearly as pretty and the characters at this point don't have anything on what I've seen from DCUO. As far as looks and appearance I definitely think DCUO has it by a wide margin.

Gameplay however is FAR more important to me, I don't care how pretty you are if I can't stand to play you. The variety is there seemingly in both, the effects of powers seems to be a little more in DCUO favor as well. Seeing someone freeze an enemy then chuck the block away was cool, though I wonder if I need to kill you for a mission and I do that... well I don't want to fail because my overzealous friend threw you halfway across the city and I can't find you. A fun and new problem yes but still.... I forsee many long lost villains on rooftops I need to kill and am unable to find. I can put up with that for the novelty of being able to throw them around though.

CO definitely seems to be firmly stuck in ground already tread before. The interactions in it really seem to be just retreads of what was done in COX. Nothing new there.

However DCUO philosophy of letting one character kind of do it all with stances... um... I don't like the sound or the implications of that. If my power is shooting you with lasers... how are my lazer powers going to make me tougher? Click! Now I can make laser body armor or something? No thanks, if I wanted to do that I'd have made a character that could. Now CO has expressed similar concerns but they seem to be on more of a tweaking stats level than completely changing who and what you are from what they've said of it. Flip a switch you adjust and are tougher, flip another you're focusing on damage instead. Same concept different execution. Still DCUO would be GREAT for a shapechanger or a robotic hero that could alter his form for different combat options but I don't want to play those so meh.

Also does DCUO have anything other than Metropolis? Seriously is that it? Not again.

I can see potential in either game but overall I'm not impressed with either. They both seem to have dropped the ball to me at this point. I'll know for sure when I actually play them but at this point, I don't expect an MMO being a part of my future gameplaying.

DC Universe Hands-On Report (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/2692/page/1)

QuotePvP is the focus of the game for action and fun, not just for advancement. The game has plans to put a grief protection system in place. For example, if you are a higher level villain who decides to spend lots of time in uptown Metropolis killing lowbies, eventually you will draw the attention of more powerful NPCs to help quell your little rebellion.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of PVP at all either... I guess this makes sense though, since what I had heard was that they were going to have both heroes and villains going around in the same settings. It's really too bad since this game looks far superior, graphically.

I will, at least, be trying free trials though.

I hated PvP in CoH or SWG and never went near it. When I played WAR and descovered it was a major part of the game, I was forced to give it a try. It turned out to be balanced, fun and quite easy. It wasn't a match of 'who has the best weapons' so I felt I could enjoy it even though I didn't know what I was doing.

I figure if a game is focused around PvP, it might not be as bad as those with comparitively more PvE content.

Most of the video is pretty repetative with the hammers.  The 1 ton weight is a cute touch though barely used, and then there's the sphere when the player starts to mix it up.

What I want to know is, how many choices does the player have for how a power effect looks?  Could the hammers be a meteorswarm instead?

Yeah, now with that second video, I see something that I really don't like.  That's essentially the same Star Labs mission as the one for heroes shown earlier.  There's no real difference.  Swap the heroes of one for their respective villains and make a slightly different way for converting the monsters into allies, and that's it.  Exact same mission otherwise.

This is very disappointing if this is the case with most or all missions.

I actually was able to play their demo for about twenty minutes at SDCC.

According to the developer I talked with the build was early stages alpha. That said, as a long time COH player and beta tester, the build was very polished and playable. It looked very good, handled well with either controller or keyboard, and it was pretty fun. So far there are 160 DCU characters in the game and they are adding more as they go.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a good alpha and beta. The guy I spoke with said they are taking their time to get the game right.

Also, the reports that this game is PVP focused is flat out not true. I ran a mission in which the Joker was my contact and battled both Green Arrow and Wonder Woman at different points.

Hopefully this is so. I'm one who has commented on it being pvp-focused -- from reading interviews with DCUO devs who said so. Note that they did not say PvP only, just focused. PvE always was part of the mix. But these interviews were very early on and could have simply been referring to the idea that PvP was *a* focus from the outset.

However, they did say *early on* that in some cases, PvP would be mandatory. That is, as a hero you might get a mission from Batman to stop a bank robbery, while someone else's villain character might have a mission from Joker to commit the robbery. PvP ensues. I wasn't sure at the time how this would work, since it requires both a hero character and a villain character to be available and somehow coordinated, but that's one scenario they put forth. I also thought it was odd because all of the initial gameplay videos I saw were PvE missions.

Maybe they received enough feedback on the idea to alter the initial concept or they were not clear with their intentions up front. It may have just been a muddle way of saying the PvP would be one focus up front, not the primary focus.

[edit] I just went back through the thread and found the quote that Midnite listed showing one statement concerning PvP being the focus of the game. If they've changed that concept -- the individual misspoke -- that would be great.

How will that work? If they sell the game for $60 and then let people continue to play, how long will the servers stay? I guess it's possible that everything is mission based like Phantasy Star Online or Guild Wars (though I don't know anything about that) but that may work too. The game looks really good and its for PS3 which is a great plus for me because last time I upgraded my PC, my video card ended up exploding. Without some terrible reviews, I think this will definitely be the next MMO I try.

Guild Wars is(was) making money by coming up with new stand alone (yet compatible one with another) games every year or so, you have Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall, then they made the Eye of the North expansion that you need one of the 3 campaigns in order to play, they also sell extra character slot, inventory tabs, toon makeovers and PvP skill pack and stuff to make money.

Guild Wars pulled it off, so why can't they?  The DCU has plenty of stories and characters to draw on for new expansion packs.  At any rate, I'm definitely in if there's no subscription fee.

There's a lot of videos of game play floating around youtube.  So far the game looks good.  I like the fact that you can have a PVP while on a quest.  It makes it seems more real.  I just hope that it's an option you can turn off if you're not the PVP type.

Or maybe just not need to win the PVP?  D2 had that.  Although D2's version was simply other characters interfering with the quest.

from what we've seen the quest are never about beating the other players in pvp. it's more like the first team who kills their opponent's NPC : if you're a villain you're trying to KO Superman, and in the same room heroes are trying to KO luthor. or that's the way i understand.

Looks fun to me & i've been craving some superhero pvp action latly - A full game based around it now seems like a great idea when before I was a little disapointed in the PvP only news - It might change up how I make a character to - Like instead of a custom villain that reflects whatever I personally want in an Villainous character instead, I can now be a Lex corp agent & fight along side my boss to wipe out Superman or be a thug lackey for the Black Mask & take down Batman etc... - Could be real fun

Title: Re: DC Universe Online

i think it was confirmed as part of a "nature" power set. this set is said to be based on poison ivy and beast boy: so plant-based power, probably plant invocation, shapeshifting into animal and possibly but not confirmed animal invocation too.

Very doubtful this game will be all that mod-able...creating heroes wise anyway. Any modding to the hero creator will only be seen by you and people that download and use your mod. Everyone else ingame will see the standard stuff released with the game. You probably won't be able to add anything to the costume creator either...just "overwrite" what is already ingame.

The PC game will be cheaper by 10-20$ than the console version. At least that's how it usually goes anyway. Although their aren't many PC/console MMO's out there...so who knows really. Cryptic had plans to make Champions and Star Trek Online for PC and console...both console versions have been all but abandoned as far as I know.

It was interesting what he said in the interview about the possibility of sharing accounts on ps3 and pc.
the only thing holding me back from getting this is if there will be a subscription fee or not.
i had to drop STO and CO because paying $15+ a month only to be able to play when most people are asleep is absurd (time zone factors for me)

Yep, i'm with you on that one. I also find it a little unbelievable that they have a release date sheduled so soon but that they officially still have no idea wether there will be a monthly fee or not.

The problem is obviously that the PS3 players are used to free to play online game (unlike Xbox live players who are used to pay to play), and they probably won't buy DCUO if there's a fee. But not having a monthly fee and going free-to-play is pretty unpopular among the PC players (i'd dare say they're being extremist douchebags on the issue in fact) who wants the game to be "preserved" from casual players.

the fact that the servers are shared between PC and PS3 gives me confidence that there won't be a different treatment for both platform (free-to-play on PS3 and monthly fee on PC...worst case scenario in my opinion)
And the fact that the game was really designed as a PS3 game first (they really want it to be the big MMo of the console) makes me hope they'll go the Guild Wars way, with F2P as a base and boxed expansion every few month.

That's the first MMO i can see myself playing for a real long time...so, i'm eagerly waiting for the "what economic model" annoucement.

Actually, the developers specifically said that they don't know if they will share servers or not, only that the game's been built to have the capability.  They say the marketing department gets to make that decision.

They have, however, been hinting that they may use a model similar to Guild Wars.  If so, I'm definitely in.  If they do use a monthly fee, I'm afraid CoH will likely keep my dollars instead.

The 2 huge issues I have w/ this game...which Freedom Force has no issues with, BTW...is the inability to play AS one of the established super heroes...and the fact that you have to play online, no SP mode that I've seen, etc. Yes, it's cool to make your own & fight alongside the big established heroes & heroines, but it'd be very cool to have a SP mode or some kind of ability to play AS Superman, Batman, Shazam, etc. That is what I love so much about my 2 favorite games, FF/FFVTTR & Battlefield 2. Just my 2 cents, of course.

I was afraid that was just me ^^
But no it's definitely better: more effect (slashing, impact) and more reaction from the character (they "take" the hits, as opposed to before when it looks like they were hitting through each other)
The special suits Batman/Superman (apparently rewards for achievement/pvp) looks very cool, but i'm expecting clan of power players all dressed like this to roam the sky...Hope there's more of them (an amazonian suit, an luthor suit, etc)

Apparently there was an article released saying it will be P2P at 14.99 a month. Not confirm by Sony or the DCUO team yet, so it might just be speculation on the part of the journalist. He did wrote that DCUO would be the big rival of WoW after all, so he might not know what he's talking about.

Heya Freegentile I think your looking at this the wrong way a little - In other superhero MMO's you where limited to powers that where loosly based on superheroes we all know & love while in DC online if you want to use actual Green Lantern powers for a Green Lantern character then thats exactly what you can do while in CoX if you wanted a green lantern kinda character you had to be a defender with energy blast etc... but couldn't make big fans, giant boxing gloves etc.... - Plus unlike those other superhero MMO's they would erase your character if you tried to make them look like DC chars but, here since it's the DC Universe if you make a Superman clone your good to go - It might be kinda silly when you see Superman pop up for mission objective but that will last all of 10 seconds - I expect to see DC clones leaping all over the place & it's about damn time - By the way that new video Midnight just posted shows the hit detection looking very good now & am even more excited for this game

QuoteDC Universe if you make a Superman clone your good to go

I kind of doubt that.  It would be far too confusing.  No doubt they'll be more tolerant of DC look alikes, and they've already allowed for special outfits based on characters, like the Batsuit and Superman armor shown in the second E3 video, but I'm pretty sure identical looking clone still won't be allowed.

E3 2010: DC Universe Online takes it up a notch (http://www.massively.com/2010/06/17/e3-2010-dc-universe-online-takes-it-up-a-notch/)

Quote. . .Next we got a look at endgame armor sets. Essentially, as you level up through the game, you will gain the respect of an iconic superhero or supervillain of your choice. You will then be able to wear an endgame armor set from your mentor. It's not an exact duplicate of the iconic hero's outfit, but the inspiration is clear. The Batman armor set we saw was in the same shape and design of the Dark Knight, but it was all shiny metal like a suit of armor with a red bat emblazoned across the chest. Superman's armor set, on the other hand, was created out of the crystals of the Fortress of Solitude. There will be endgame armor sets from all of the 80-90 iconic characters in the game including well-known ones like Wonder Woman and the Joker as well as less popular ones like Metallo and Doctor Psycho. . .

That's a lot armours to collected.  :o

PC gamers know how SOE handle their MMO (star wars galaxy and everquest 2 to name the most infamous ones) so we can and should expect dcuo to "fail" (wich for any MMO would be doing great, but as i mentioned earlier they went over budget)
Since their original plan was to be F2P and use an hybrid of the expansion (guild wars) model mixed with micro transactions; MAYBE (yes that's a big maybe) they'll switch to that original model when they erase the bigger part of their debt to "relaunch" the game and attract more customers.
One can dream...
Otherwise i'll just wait 6/8 years for the game to really fail, and THEN maybe they'll follow DnD Online  exemple and switch to free to play. I'm patient, i can wait.

If they are smart (and they are, look at the DC cartoons) they should use the game to hype lesser known characters such as Icon and Static. Video games really create a great platform for promoting characters, much like the Marvel Vs Capcom games did. I mean yeah, Superman and Batman are cool and necesary but hopefully some of the first characters you meet are minor properties who cant keep a book on the shelves consistently.

and don't forget that in europe they are still doing 1$ = 1?, so the UK won't be the only one paying the high price.

Quote from: BWPS on June 18, 2010, 01:04:25 AMIt doesn't look like it is good enough to spend $60 + $15/month + I have no time.

This is my problem with the game.

If the monthly fee were cheaper or the game itself cost less than $60 I might be interested. Right now $60 + a monthly subscription for a game that I'm not even sure I'll like is just too risky.

Just drop the price of the game to $49 & include 1 month of subscription and I may just pick it up.

Regarding cross-server play.

These are structured PvP battles where you can only use in game characters - As noted in the video there will be sortove a weight class to picking these battles - Like i'm assuming the middle weight class will be your Batman, Knightwing, Huntress, Joker, Harley, Bane - Later they will add the heavyweight class with Superman, Lex Luthor, Doomsday etc... This is the first video i've seen on this so far but, I'm excited about the amount of modes there adding to the game

From the gameplay videos I've seen, no it won't. It looks like the idea is that, in order to prevent this nasty future from happening, Future-Luthor goes back to the past and creates a bunch of new superheroes, i.e. the player characters.

I get the feeling that many of us are either a) just more wholesome or b) just a lot older than most fans of DCUO & those who are commenting on DCUO pages & GameTrailers. I concur that the CGI here is way awesome & DC should do movies like this, just like Marvel should do movies like the trailers & cutscenes for their MUA games & that MarvelKids Iron Man Adventures 3-clip series. Much better than live action.

As for this trailer, beyond its CGI wonderment, there are lots of issues:

1. Why are the heroes getting their clocks cleaned so easily? Yes, I know it's part of the DCUO plot, but it's depressing. Seems like this is a lot like the Khyber thing where Superman exiled himself & then came back to fight Khyber, WW & others were fighting Khyber's minions, etc. Guess it's probably been done many times in recent DC history.

2. Trailer doesn't match up w/ comics/character heritage/historical abilities in many points. How in the world does Deathstroke have a chance against Wonder Woman, whom Batman coined, "the world's greatest melee fighter"? Does Wonder Woman, allegedly a goddess, not have any kind of defense against Circe? Is she really capable of being weakened to the point that Luthor in battle armor can hold her? Which then brings into account Batman...how can he be taken out so easily? Yes, he was just knocked over by essentially a dirty bomb's effects (but then Deathstroke should have been, too) & tied up by an allegedly unbreakable rope, but c'mon. And by Deathstroke, again. And where is the gauge of the magic of Shazam vs. the magic of the Green Lantern Corps? And can even a charged up Superman take down THE Black Adam that easily? Is the magic of Shazam in the same league or not w/ the Speed Force, which Flash can tap into? He took out GL & Flash way too easily.

3. Whole trailer was just too graphic. Especially the Kryptonite in WW's mouth & the spear thru Supes. Supes' heat vision in BA's face. Batman being beaten while hanging. Joker talking about more murdering to do. Just too much, man. I mean, I know many parents don't filter anything these days, so many won't care that their kids watch this, but our kids can't even see their old standby heroes in anything anymore w/out some of sick/perverted element! I gotta go back to the bloomin' SuperFriends to allow them to watch anything full length!

All these sci-fi outfits suffer from the same problem...I can't believe how many times I hear, "Man, that was an an awesome (movie, trailer, etc.), if it just hadn't been for (that, that one scene, that one element, etc.).

I'm done. Thank you.

All I can say is that times has change.  This is not your daddy's Super Friends.  I guess they are just keeping up with the times.  But like I said before, this would all make sense if they explain how it all started.  From the way the city looked, it must have been going on for a long while.

 I though Luthor explained everything at the beginning. He was obsess with killing superman. After many battles, superman needed to recharge his battery or got sick of being ambushed everytime he got out of his appartement, so he flew to the sun to medidate.
Luthor saw an opportunity in that, and lauched a full-scale assault on the rest of the Justice League (wich explains the state of the city, with stategist like batman and luthor, the battle must have being going for days). And that's where the trailer pick up.

Yep, there were some "wait a minute" moments in that trailer. We don't know though what has been going on during that epic fight. Diana should have easily destroyed Deathstroke and Adam should never have fallen to Supes so easily. Also the shazam lightning was shown to be like a nuke. Since when does it do that? Flash should have avoided the blast with ease. My biggest question though is where the hell was Captain Marvel?

edit: hum seems like i'm responding to a message that's not here anymore...

Then again, this is the trailer for a MMO, and it's clearly not designed for children.
They're aiming at teenagers and young adults, and they don't need to be "protected" from anything in this trailer. The most "hardcore" part of the trailer was the kryptonite, and by 11 everyone as seen much worse than that (when i was 10 everyone in my school had played Counter strike at least once, and it's much more gruesome than that)

But i agree they're are trying a little too hard to make them grittier/more hardcase, and that they are a number of "oddity" (i think supes beating adam can be explained by his long absorbtion of solar radiation at close range for a long time...probably gave him a temporary power boost).
They're doing it for their targeted audience, and by the responses on the fan pages (facebook/myspace) they seem to have nailed it. the rest of the game is much more close to "normal" comics, less violent/graphical, so that's ok. It's just to try to attract non-comic crowd to the game, who maybe still think of it as "too kiddie";;;maybe, that's jssut speculation

It's funny, we (as well as others) are talking about the trailer and how dark & gritty it is or why this is this and that is that, we have to remember that Luther when BACK IN TIME!  None of this would have happen yet, so you can make it as dark as you want it and kill everybody off, but if you play the time game, everything can go back to normal.

Hey! i just though of something:
Brainiac is supposed to be the big bad because every time he invaded earth it was to collect sample and data on all the superbeing. He then used this data to become apparently unstopable (the trailer is a little vague on that matter...did he dupplicate their power? did he developped special tactic or made himself immune?)

And what is Luthor's solution? giving power to a lot more of people...Wouldn't that make things worse? Plus we know that brainiac invading earth will happen in game (it was one of the test mission at last years E3 if i'm not mistaken). So will he collect data on us? It seems like an incoherent plot, but maybe it's just me.

Plus I don't trust Luthor at all - I don't believe him that he feels bad about how the future turns out - I think him & Brainiac are working together to destroy the Heroes - Giving regular people powers hopeing that power will corrupt to garantee this dark future - Or Lex is playing both sides & trying to come up with a sceem to come out on top - After all it's Lex's Legion who's killing our heroes in that future - Now I wanta play the game even more to see how this unfolds

what is the difference between open and closed ?
Title: Re: DC Universe Online
Post by: Reepicheep on August 30, 2010, 08:47:59 PM
Closed beta generally comes first, where only certain, hand-selected players (such as oldest forum members, pre-order bonuses, those who have signed up for closed beta earlier on) have access. Open beta comes after, when everyone has access.

Personally, I avoid both and play the real thing.

Closed Beta: people the company choses get to play an unfinished version of the game.

Open Beta: pretty much anyone who wants gets to play a close to finished version of the game.

I'm still on the fence. I want to pick this up but there are a couple factors. I want to see how deep the character creator tool is. I'm also curious if a PlayStation Plus membership gets you a discount or what.

I have enough money on my GameStop account to pick this up. Just waiting to see if I get in the closed beta to kick the tires...

3 things will get me to buy this game

- Lots of visual options
- Lots of power design options (Champions Online has me really spoiled)
- A decent mission variety

Already I'm interested with the fact that you can make villains (I wonder when Champions will catch up with DCU and of course COX) and while I was not that interested in the DC universe before, I've been hooked on all the great cartoons and DVD's so now I would love to fight alongside the Justice League.

There is one thing that is bothering me about this game and I hope it will not be the case.

While I enjoy the thought of playing alongside Batman, what about the rest of "the Bat family"?  I don't mean specifically Robin.  I mean The Question, (both versions would be nice but doubtful its doable), Black Canary (sorta a spinoff via Birds of Prey), and others.

More importantly, what if I want my character to be more inline with the likes of Phantom Stranger or John Constantine.  Especially Constantine.  I assume there will be magic based characters in the game as well as the ability to create magic based characters, right?

I keep thinking about this game as a great way to introduce the casual or even sporadic DC fan to some of the lesser known DC characters.  It's a great way to help garner interest in various potential DC movies and would help Warner Brothers perhaps be persuaded not to screw up with the DC stuff so much.  (ok, i can wish on the last part!)

The point... while The Question and some lesser known DC characters have been included in the game... and I am assuming lesser villains... what will the role of the lesser known characters be.

I read Ambush Bug and didn't have to read any more. Awesome.
Being a huge DC fan, I totally freakin' love this based on idea... and it's visually splendid. I don't know about play style yet though, obviously. The weapons focus thing is really weird. Do that many super heroes really have weapons?

Anyhow, I do hope for beta as well. Oh man, the Corpse hanging out with the Creeper would be awesome.

Marketing decision if i'm not wrong, due to the delay of a wow extension to december.
Mybe it's not such a bad thing. People who have preordered the game won't "accept" a delay if Sony doesn't throw them a bone to take patience.
Maybe we'll see an open beta; or better yet, a independant character creator like Dragon Age had (so that you just have to import them in the game when it's out).
Also, maybe it will force them to actually show in-game footage on there facebook publication, instead of just saying "ooh i just played the game and it's really good. but i won't show it to you. bye"

Delay & Beta info:  http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/news/

Beta free for all video : http://www.gametrailers.com/video/beta-combat-dc-universe/705671

Even though the video is chaotic you can see alot of powers being used & some powers that made me say WoW like what is going on with those giant fireballs bouncing around or the guy stomping on the ground & a rock flies up then he punches it - Some costume pieces that suprised me are the Rhino & Lion head - The character models look amazing & the best i've seen yet from the superhero mmo games - The animations are still a bit stiff but, no stiffer than what I see in Champions - Basically the beta looks like your stuck in an area & everyone is smashing each other to test out how the powers play - Still disapointed in the delay but, what can ya do

Is that not the point of playing an officially sanctioned Super-Hero MMO? People want to be Batman. People will buy DCUO & create their own Batman.

3 part character creator walkthrough
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/dc-universe-online/8708

Its definitely not as good as CO customization, but it looks interesting enough, I like the stance options a lot.
Keep in mind that there are tons of costume pieces to unlock, according to devs anyway. But, if they are gonna limit body customization, they might as well give us more than 3 body types.

I`m still bummed about not seeing electricity power set, eventhough they`ve shown it in earlier videos.

Just watched the character creation videos, the sewer mission walk through & part of the Mark Anderson interview.

This game is looking neat. My quip right now is the mentors are a bit limited. Some of my characters won't fit with any of the three shown in the creation videos. Where would mutant types fit in? Superman is the inherent contact but he's a poor fit for a mutant themed character IMO.
Title: Re: DC Universe Online

I guess you have to get a little openminded there. Superman may not share your origin, but he's the best you're gonna get. I'm not too happy with Reep getting Wonder Woman.

PC if at all... still deciding.

As long as "no names are taken" much like Champions Online I'll be happy. It would kill me if I have a superhero I created and have to go with another name because somebody else used the name a day before.

The mentor thing is sort of weird since they were also saying stuff like, "If your character is magic you'll be mentored by Wonder Woman, if your character uses tech you'll be mentored by Batman..." and I forget for Superman.

Yet I've a character who is magic in origin, but I'd prefer he start off in Gotham, and use Batman as a mentor.
Likewise, Unko himself has no powers and uses tech, but I still picture him fitting more into Superman's world.

I suspect that will mostly be the determining factor for people.

They make it pretty clear that there are 3 BUT this game has an evil side so I would not be surprised if they are 3 with maybe The Joker, Circe and Luthor on the other side of the coin.

If there are only three then that kinda sucks.  What about having the GL corps as a mentor?  or The Flash?

or John Constantine (a personal choice of mine)  or The Question (another one i'd chose)

Or The Creeper!

But seriously, is it a bit odd they didn't choose more of the Justice League. (Like Aquaman!)
I am betting the mentor thing will break down as Batman in huge numbers, Superman in fairly large numbers, and Wonder Woman in pretty small numbers.

Since they all have there own missions & villains to fight I bet they will all be played equally - Other mentors with there own villains & missions will be released in later updates to keep us hooked for years - As for a initial release with 6 mentors total that's alot of content really to keep us hooked till the updates start rolling in - If we played all the mentors all the way threw then we would have 6 characters reach lvl 30 - That's quite a feat - Did anyone catch the new Inside the Studio video where they hint at secret identities content

The mentor issue (if you can call it an issue. More of a shrugging inconvenience) is less how much content it offers, but how the selection of mentors apply to our potential character concepts.

Personally, I'm not too fussed. Its basically the same as CoH's origins, dictating where the character starts, but with two less options.

I guess you'd draw these lines:
Natural/Tech/Science - Batman
Mutation/Natural/Science - Superman
Magic - Wonder Woman

Placing science under two mentors, since science is quite a vague origin.

"Your mission is to get me 2 packs of Silk Cut and a bottle of Whiskey". "Congratz, you completed your mission, as a reward John tricks a demon that has been hounding him into going after you instead".

;)

Honestly if Champions Online takes forever to create villain missions I'm certainly making the jump to DC. I dont know why Champions is the only game out there without villain quests... I guess they want to go the City of Heroes route and release it in a few years BUT the fact that it already exists for City of Heroes and soon DC Online really makes them look bad.

ok, good point.   The point I was getting at is for the inclusion of "lesser known heroes" as mentors.  I don't really see Wonder Woman, Batman or Superman as really all that appropriate for the mentoring of "magic based characters".  As for the Constantine reference, he was sort of a mentor to Timothy Hunter in "The Books of Magic" series.  (He showed up a few times in the ongoing series not the original limited series as I recall.)

As for the whiskey, I could go for some Jameson right now.

Not trying to sound funny, but where's Aquaman as a mentor?  Where are the sea levels?  As a nod to the old Super-Friends toon, they should have made Aquaman a mentor so it would have been the original 4.

Sea levels are said to be "reserved" for a future expansion. Just like alll the space level are kept for the future (and probably first) expansion wich will add the actual green lantern corp.

I haven't lmao over a youtube video in awhile but I sure did watching this one. He's right of course, but man, was this guy born yesterday? Companies will milk you for all you are worth everytime. Paying for monthly rates playing games is crazy in theory, yes. But if you think about paying for cable/satellite service every month that you may or may not even use much, well that's crazy too. If you get entertained playing DC Online and they keep adding new content, sounds like to me it would be worth it. It's not like you are playing a story campaign and once you are done with it, that's all it has to offer.

Well he surely has a big mouth (not to found of profanity for profanity's sake) but he does have some good points.
The fact that the game is first made, then priced: P2P defender always says the game will be worse if it's free, so if the game was already made before...
The "greedy" aspect of the marketing team (they are the ones who chose the paymetn option, against the better judgment of the developmetn team who wanted a guild wars model): they have a subscription fee, planned boxed extension AND microtransaction. The only thing they didn't do (yet) is in-game advertisement.
The exclusion of PS3 players: like he said, PS3 player are not used to pay for online games, so it probably have less PS3 players than PC players. Now that they've announced that the servers won't be cross platform, there's good chances the PS3 servers will be "empty", at least compared to the PC ones.

didn't watched all the video (i may agree with him, but i just can't stand the way he talks) so there's probably a few more "good pints" here and there

Here are the points I saw in the videos in question...

1- No cross platform gameplay.
2- No day/night cycles.
3- 2 characters per account.
4- Supposedly content was made for the boxed version & was pulled for a payed expansion.
5- The game hasn't been released & micro transactions/expansions are being bandied about.
6- Beta is pre-order only.
7- Pay-2-play suxx0rz

Champions Online announced their own Free-2-Play service today. D&D Online has Free-2-Play. LotR Online has Free-2-Play. Some people just don't want to pay $15 a month for a game that already has eyes on payed expansions & micro transactions before the game is even released. I get that, I really do. I would happily pay $15 a month for an experience comparable to CoH on my PS3 using DC universe characters. With the information I have at hand there is no guarantee that I'll have that with DCUO.

The more I hear about this game the more I question my pre-order.

Thats a lie actually, they haven't officially announced number of characters per account, they said at least 5 in one of the interviews. And beta is only pre-order atm, beta application started in august, pre order only gurantees you a beta access but you can still get it if you applied earlier.

Guys the game is AWESOME!!!

Me , personally, it's better than Champions online and has something that was missing from COX.  The controls are bit different, but you can adjust to them very easily.  The graphics are nice and it plays like a 3rd person action game.  I created a villain with a catwoman template and you click the right mouse for range and left for close/ melee attacks.  The 1-9 keys are for weapons, for my toon, button 1 was her bombs and 2 was a force field she would put around the cop to damage them.

The only thing I'm having trouble with is going to the menus.  "I" is for inventory and "K"  is use to upgrade your powers.  It's a little hard to understand, because it states that you can upgrade, but doesn't tell you where.  I would like to post screen shots, but I'm not sure if I could.  Anyway I will be playing again tonight.  I'll start a hero and see how that goes.

One more thing, if you guys get invited, the beta is 15.5Gigs

I have a Core 2 quad running @ 2.8Gigs with 6Gigs of Ram and a Geforce 470 video card with an 8800GTX for Physx.  It's not the most powerful by today standards, but it's beefy.
The something extra?  I guess it would be the way it feels.  You don't always have to press 1, 2, 1, 3, etc let that charge back up then repeat.  You have your melee & range (left & Right mouse buttons) always ready, so if you do let something charge, you can still be fighting.

I did find something I didn't like, but it maybe because it's beta: The outfits you start out with are bland, but you can change then by doing quest and getting new gear.  Also you can't change the colors on them (yet) and you can't change you character face, features, nationality.  I guess they are still working on this, so I won't complain, it's still a beta.

Found this tidbit on the facebook page.

QuoteJust finished speaking to an SOE rep. If this pertains to anyone besides myself, I hope this helps. If you send in a preorder receipt that is faulty, (blurry picture, void confirmation number, etc.), they will only void that SINGLE receipt. If you happened to send in a valid receipt with the same information they will ...NOT void it.
Also: The beta keys are being sent out in random batches. Theoretically, if you send in a receipt now, you could receive you beta key in the next handful sent out.
Keep refreshing your e-mails! XD

I did run into a snag, which I have to contact tech support about.  I'm fighting with Killer Croc against Bane and he trapped us in a room and we're all fighting.  Bane defeats me and I respawn on the floor over them.  I go back down and the place is closed off to me.  I see Croc & Bane fighting, no one is taking damage, and I'm stuck on the sideline watching.

After several emails Amazon customer support finally sent me this:

"Hello,

I'm sorry for any misunderstanding.

In order to take advantage of this promotion, you must place a qualifying order during the specified promotion period while supplies last. We're unable to apply special discounts to items ordered before or after the dates of the promotional offer."

Play as Batman and Amazonian bracers were limited time offer on Amazon? I didn't know that supplies were limited...
The official site still has those bonuses listed when you click on Amazon tab. Either its false advertising or some kind of misunderstanding.

Finally got a chance to play a bit today, and it's pretty fun stuff. I'm at a sore disadvantage because my internet is via tether (laaaag) but otherwise I had a blast. When the beta nears it's end I'll probably shell out and get some proper internet.

The one thing I was eh on was character creation. Compared to Champions or CoX it just felt clunky and hard to deal with.

QuoteDCU is hardly God of War, but it honestly does feel closer to X-Men Legends than World of Warcraft.

Bummer...None of the available retailers for pre order ships to Serbia  :(
Amazon normally ships games, comics etc here, but for some reason that's not the case with DCU Online.
I will buy the game regardless, but I really wanted to play as Batman in PvP  :(

She's pretty easy. All you have to do is use melee or weak range on her. Get her attention, block all her attacks. When she goes after Wonder Girl, use melee or range to get her attention again. When she's about to electrocute the whole room, run to the nearest heal barrel. Throw against a spot, stay there and heal and block the bolts. Repeat this until WG gets her body back.

Ya I noticed that. I took her down in my first attempt after the patch. :D

Anyone else having a graphical glitch where you can't remove the style of gloves from your hands? It seems to happen mostly with the weaponized gloves. Changing the style ingame does nothing...I often have to exit the game and it's back to my original selection after that. I submitted a bug about it anyway.

EDIT: Nevermind. It was the Primary Weapon style option that was screwing me up. :P

I was a little worried about the quality of the graphics on the PS3 version vs the PC - After playing both versions I thought the PC definetly looked better & was leaning torward the PC but, the latest patch for the PS3 seems to have boosted the graphics up a bit - So now i'm happy & am getting the game for the PS3 - Not gonna get the lifetime subscribe because some months I might play CoX - Ow & about that new patch - The new cutsceens look great with Jim Lee's art - I wouldn't mind if they invited more well known comic artist to do future expansions

Edit : Just realized that the lifetime is for PC only so I guess I couldn't get it anyway ^_^

The lifetime subscription just seems to be the smartest way to go if you can get it all together at once.  I'm hoping that the crash/lock issues that cropped up yesterday are addressed soon.  Too many things down right now for any full gameplay.
Title: Re: DC Universe Online
Post by: Tomato on December 22, 2010, 12:55:38 PM
Lifetime subscriptions are awesome for me. I play sporadically on MMOs, and I only might want to play two days one month and then straight through the next... I don't want to worry about having to set up a payment anytime I wanna just log in.

So yeah, if/when the effing thing will let me, I wanna put in for a lifetime.

That said, I was wondering if anybody had ideas as far as teams to put together... obviously we're going to do the overall FR group like with CoX and CO, but since this IS a DC MMO I was thinking about doing something coordinated... like having a bunch of "minion" characters breaking off and forming their own group (Ex. the character I created is called Yin Yang, and ninja working for Two Face). One of the niceties about having a MMO set in the DCU is that no one is going to care about having a million joker thugs or alternate reality batmen or whatever running around.

Talking with two of my buddies and they are not interested in the game.  They like it but they feel that it gets old fast, because all you do is run around and fight heroes/ villains.  One of the things that was mention was that there is no form of crafting.  Now, I'm thinking: Do I really want my hero/ villain on the sideline making weapons?  How funny would it be to see Batman crafting because he needs more bat-a-rangs.  What do you guys think?  Also, I feel that this is not a true MMO, but more of an Action RPG.
Title: Re: DC Universe Online
Post by: UnkoMan on December 24, 2010, 08:06:46 PM
Batman I could see crafting. Almost every other super hero? No thanks...
Doesn't MMO mean massive multiplayer online? True, it isn't point and click, but I think the general consensus is it's better that they did it this way, because we could just as easily be playing CoX or Champions. This way there is variety in what online super hero games one plays.

Though, personally, I play these games solo. I wonder if they will ever come out with a customizable super hero game you can play by yourself... oh wait.
Uh, but as an action game. Even actionier than this. Like Arkham Asylum but with a customizable character. I would buy that.
Title: Re: DC Universe Online
Post by: Courtnall6 on December 24, 2010, 10:30:52 PM
DCUO is trying to break new ground in MMOs here. I love that the game is more action oriented like Spider-Man Web of Shadows. It's basically killed my interest in any other MMO were I can't use a controller. Point and click with a keyboard just isn't working for me anymore.

I found crafting to be useless in CoH and Champions...especially Champions. I hope DCUO steers clear of it.
Title: Re: DC Universe Online

I'm curious what they plan to do with the Green Lantern powers set once it's added. After fighting with the GLs against the Sinestro Corps...I gotta say I'm very excited for it. Will we be able to make a GL right away you think? Or would we have to get to a certain level first or a certain amount of rep with the Lantern Corps? I'm kinda hoping for the latter...simply to cut down on the immediate mass numbers of Green Lanterns' there would be. Getting to be part of the Corps should be more of a great achievement rather than "just joining up". But that's me. :P
Title: Re: DC Universe Online

I haven't gotten into the game far enough to run into the Green Lanterns -- but that sure would make a great expansion set.   So would the Legion of Super heroes in the future and alternate DC universes.

Post by: bat1987 on December 25, 2010, 11:32:13 AM
Ok, my 2 cents after playing for a while:

Character creator:

Although you have a lot of cool options available with different skin, gear etc. Its still veeery limited in terms of customization. You can't get as creative as you could in Champions, most of the time you'll settle for what's there. There's a ton of costume pieces to unlock and IMO most of that should be available from the start (excluding boss drops).
I'm ok with pre defined body types, but they should add at least 3 more. My suggestion would be: skiny (joker style), athletic ( a la Nightwing) and fat (which was actually available in friends and family beta).

Powers and combat:

Combat is really fun, its really fluid for an MMO and very "actiony". As far as weapons go, I couldn't think of any other weapon type they would add, and as with costumes there's a ton to unlock in the game. I like that movement mode can play a big part in combat so kudos for that.
Power choices are really cool IMO, and they play very differently, which is good for those of us that like to have multiple toons. Iconic power tree is a nice touch as well (heat vision and batarangs are personal favorites). If what I heard is correct, there are 3 power sets that are more or less ready, but probably won't be ready for launch: Hard light (green lantern), atomic and lightning (can't wait for this one!).
Roles play a bit differently from most mmos out there. Every class can be a dps which is great, and additional function ( fire and ice are tanks, gadgets is crowd control etc.)

Mission and content:

Can't comment 100% on this since pre-order lvl cap is 20. Like others have said the main pve draw here is that you're in DCU and you do the missions for Superman, Batman, Joker etc.
I like that unlike Champions your leveling path is very different if you pick another mentor, sure you can play other mentor missons, and at some points you'll have to, but most of the time you'll be spending time with the one you chose at creation. Every mission chain leads to a boss fight at the end which I always look forward to. Haven't tried raids yet since they're only for lvl 30.
PvP is a lot of fun, and in most cases the more skilled player will win, regardless of the lvl difference. I'm having a blast with legends PvP, and the heroes play very differently.
I have Batman, Robin and Nightwing atm, will unlock others later.

All in all this is not a typical MMO, which I like. I'm enjoying the game so far, but like I said, I haven't tried end game content, which according to devs was their focus so there's much more to be seen here and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm betting that there mentors with there own missions, city, powers - Green Lantern mentor for hero & Sinestro for villain - I just can't wait for Plastic Man powers

Plastic Man powers would be pretty awesome. They already have shapeshifting so I could see them doing one where you turn into random crazy things. I couldn't really see stretching powers. They are hard to do, especially in a game like this.

I had heard they were bringing lightning and atomic powers, but it might just be forum talks. Still, lightning is glaringly absent.

Anyhow, this is pretty fun so far. I thought you would stay with the one mentor the whole time, but I got a bunch of missions from the other two? Glitch or working properly? Anyhow...

Spoiler

I made Unko Man, obviously, but haven't played him much. Had a version with staff/gadgets, but decided to see if brawling/gadgets would work, since that's probably what he'd be. Did a Corpse too, obviously, but I don't really like how he ended up looking, and no powersets really fit.

I made and deleted a ton of characters so far, but these guys have stuck.

You start with your mentor, and do missions for example until you're lvl 10, next mission from your mentor requires you to be let's say 13. Until you reach 13 you can do missions for other mentors and then continue working for your own (or the other 2, its actually pretty flexible).

Not at the same time. You can select different Weapon skills...but you have go into your inventory and change to that weapon before you can use the skill set. So far there is no way to switch on the fly. There is also only a "Dual Pistols" Weapon option at the moment...no single firearm other than a Rifle.

Did the preorder few days ago.  Waiting on my beta... wish there was a way to download it before I got the key So I would have a jump on things until it starts to patch at least.

Reviews have been up and down and it doesn't look like I'll be playing past the first month... but I'll get it and and when the new stuff comes out, see how it goes.

Later!

Well there's powers, and then there's weapons.
Powers are: Fire, ice, gadgets, nature, mental, sorcery, with hard light coming soon. Each has two trees, nature having both plants and shapeshifting into different animals.
Weapons are: Single handed, two handed, dual wield, dual pistols, rifle, staff, brawling, martial arts, hand blasts, and whatever I'm missing.

Sadly, it seemed like a let down...until the Avatar of Tech (GOD of Tech?) appeared signaling the end times for the DCUO Beta world and all of its populace.  We were sad to see them go...until the next dimension.  Overall, a pretty fun starter universe. I do wish that they had kept the original reward system in place instead of listening to some of the more jaded gamers and at some points making it too hard after level 30.

I'd give it 8+ out of 10, based on how much fun I'm having with it, and how often I come back to it.    I give the same 8+ to CoX, which I also really enjoy - but in a very different way.

I'm actually very glad that the games don't overlap in their style.

Now, I just need to figure out how to get cram more play time into my day.   :D

7 for me. The game play is cool but it needs more depth in the character creator...more body types and skins...more costumes and accessories...the ability to select your starting weapon if you have it....color of your energy effects...one or two more colors on the color palette as well....off the top of my head.

Just checking - is all discussion of impressions thus far on the PC version of the game?  I have a friend who recently got a PS3 and was pondering getting DC Universe Online (his other MMO is World of Warcraft), and I wanted to pass along honest impressions to him.

In particular, I was wondering the extent to which in-game combat required skillful arcade reflexes.  I remember watching a video demo many months ago explaining the premise of characters finding ways to make their powers serve in any of the typical team roles, though people can always specialize their powers.  An example that I saw was a hero with some form of energy powers - his initial settings allowed him to mix things up in melee, with each of his four available power buttons triggering a melee-useful power.  But he could opt, mid-combat, to switch to being a ranged blaster, and each of his four available power buttons would trigger a different effect useful to that form of fighting.  Still another combat reconfiguration allowed him four powers to help control the battlefield.

I was more or less wondering if it still sounded like combat worked like that, and how nimble one needed to be with the fingers to adapt for different power choices.

Also, I'm curious as to the extent to which PvP is a mandatory aspect of the game.

This seems like a super silly thing to do. Why would you want to play a world wide MMO except you are limited to playing with people in your region, as if in the age of the internet people didn't know people in other countries?

Those are common problems I agree, but CO has merged servers for US and EU without any noticable lag, so its doable.

As for PS3 and PC servers Jens Andersen said that technically its possible, so its up to marketing to decide whether the servers will be separated or not. Obviously they didn't want that.

As it is, most people here are from US, so I'm bummed I won't be able to play with you guys. I can make the EU division of the FR league, though I'm not sure how many people here are from EU.

After playing both PC & PS3 - The PC ran a hell of alot better & getting patches on the PS3 so far has been a pain in the a** - Sometimes it won't even get past the initial PS3 gray screen download to even get to the real patching of the game - Which is what happened to me in the Battle of the Legends - I might end up getting both the PS3 & PC versions - Put all my money & effort into the PC version & just play the PS3 version whenever my brother wants to team-up

P.S. In fact my whole experience with the PS3 online has been crap compared to xbox 360 - I mostly play games competitively online so i'm starting to think I wasted my cash on this machine.

So I'm officially out of luck when it comes to this game's pre order. For some reason amazon is constantly refusing my credit card even with the US shipping adress.
I used this card to purchase something from book depository and it worked perfectly fine. I was gonna buy the game anyway but the only reason i pre ordered it is for the batman bonus. :(

So if anyone happens to have an extra Batman code or doesn't particularly care for using Batman in legends PvP let me know, I'd appreciate  it. This may sound like a desperate plea for help (which it is) but I went through a lot to make this pre order happen and to fail 24hrs before the game is released is a major bummer for me.
Thanks in advance

Just level 5 with my main.  New Frontier it is.  How easy is it to recycle names?  I'd hate to have to rename him to he Cricket529.

I'm using a wireless 360 controller with no problems.  A huge improvement over the keyboard/touch pad I was using in beta.  The game even tells you which button to hit.  Some of the controls are mapped a little counter-intuitive though.  In particular, I wish I could figure out how to remap the controller, as I hate that the L3 is the Travel toggle (I keep accidentally hitting the toggle while moving around).

Uh, I don't know anything about Team speak, but I need to figure something out.  I do know that I'm having all kinds of problems with the chat functions on DCUO.  Way too cumbersome at the moment, and the "Social" tab malfunctions with my 360 controller.

I wanted to play this weekend but heard so many things on the boards about loading problems, not recognizing xbox controllers and such, that I bit the bullet and loaded the game last night instead of waiting.

And of course I had none of the problems discussed on the DC boards, at least so far.    Even got my promotion bonus email from Amazon yesterday, which when loaded, told me that everything was waiting for me in game.

So far, just one character on built, on Zero Hour, a hero - "SolarEnergy Man"    While this wasn't my first toon on CoX, it was my first that leveled to 50, so I'm hoping it will be lucky for me again.   :D

Hope to see you guys online over the weekend and join the League.

Installation took almost 2 hrs (and that was loading from disc) and then as soon as I was just about to get goin' there was a 9gig update. I just was able to play the first 2 Metropolos mishs last night. Still and all...fun. :P

For the wireless you need a special adapter which is hard to find in stores these days.  I found one on ebay for about $13 and it worked just fine.  Plug the adapter in, turn on the controller and start DCUO.  The game automatically detected it.  The downside, is no remapping of the controls to my knowledge and of course shelling out $13 to get a Microsoft product to work with a PC (ironic, in my book).  As for wired controller, I think you can just plug them in.  Just a side note, the play n' charge kits don't work....they literally just draw a charge via the USB port to charge the battery.

Some questions

1) I keep running out of "mana", I guess- how do I increase that/get more. I know the Cola works ..but not all that well
2) How do you keep your appearance from changing every time you swap out a costume piece that has better stats?
3) how can i keep from being knocked back so much - its kind of nauseating watching myself get blown back 50 yards every time i get hit

1) I keep running out of "mana", I guess- how do I increase that/get more. I know the Cola works ..but not all that well
- The more you fight (left or right mouse click) the more your "mana" will build up

2) How do you keep your appearance from changing every time you swap out a costume piece that has better stats?
- Press "I" on the keyboard will bring up your inventory.  Clicking on the mask will bring up your costume.  From there you can change it and then lock it down, so when you add something it will not change your look

3) how can i keep from being knocked back so much - its kind of nauseating watching myself get blown back 50 yards every time i get hit
- Blocking is your friend and learn to use counter moves (usually holding the left or right mouse button)

QuoteLEGEND PRICING FOR LEGEND PLAYERS - 02/04/2011

It's been an exciting month for us at DC Universe Online, with so many players creating their legend and trying to become the next ultimate hero or villain. Metropolis may be under siege and Gotham City in peril, but an overwhelming number of you have stepped up in their defense!

In appreciation of you pioneers we are going to be offering the chance to lock in an extraordinary promotional rate of only $29.99 for the 3-month DC Universe Online Legend Plan. That's over 25% OFF the regular 3-month subscription plan price of $41.99! You'll even be able to keep that rate for as long as you are actively subscribed and watch the savings pile up! You really won't want to miss out on this great opportunity! The new rate will be available on February 8th so look out for it!

Lock in your savings as soon as you can once its available! Here's why....

You'll need lock in this rate prior to the end of the 30-day subscription included with your software purchase, or by March 1, 2011 (when the promotion ends), whichever comes first. Why? – because if your current subscription plan kicks in before you choose the Legend Plan, the $29.99 rate wont apply until after your currently selected plan ends.

But I'd ALSO like an answer to Brendon's question about respec.   Since some of my powers I barely use ... and I while I tried to get into a second power for the extra passive pluses, it didn't work for me.  Got the first power in the martial arts tree (to compliment my brawling) ... but when I went for the 0/3 passives, they just didn't take.   What am I doing wrong?

On the PS3, there seems to be an error if you have more than one space in a name. Does the PC version allow more than one space in any names?

You should play with him.  Midnite and I tackle all the Duos last night.  His toon (BowSting) is awesome!  I had so much fun last night.  Thanks again Mid!

I think PC has the same limitation.

On another note, am I the only guy that isn't level 30 yet?  I guess having multiple toons is a bit of a curse, but man I keep having to decline offers on Duos.

Yeah, I enjoy playing with him - especially since he's about the only one from Freedom Reborn who actually joins me when I put out a call.  (I've actually played alongside other FR players more frequently by random chance in Alerts, etc. than by putting out an invite.)

Not sure if its because my toon SolarEnergy Man dresses poorly... or because he's a tank and tanks are too common on DCU ... or becasue I'm still a newbie level 30 ... or that I don't have Teamspeak on and can't hear anyone invite me on missions.  Or maybe I'm just being boycotted.

Oh well...

Discovered yesterday that even though the League says that you're logged on, doesn't mean you are.    Sent a message to some listed, got the "Player Not Found" listed.   then went to friends list and saw that the same people who were listed as ONLINE in League, where listed as OFFLINE on Friends List.

I'm sure this is the first month kinks the game will work out over time.

Jan. 22nd for 1st Update.

QuoteI promised an update for all of you regarding the February game update and here it is.  Releasing a world-wide, multi-platform MMO like DC Universe Online requires each of our updates go through a complex approval process before they are brought to you.  While we are still finalizing many of our update processes to ensure they are as efficient as possible, these approvals took a little longer than anticipated this time. This update will be brought to you at the first available opportunity which is Tuesday morning for everyone (no one platform or country will be left behind!).

What can you expect in this update?  I'm glad you asked!

   * A new Batcave Raid zone
   * A new holiday themed alert
   * New holiday themed missions
   * An Auction House
   * A New PvP Ring Event
   * New Catwoman adventure which drops new Armor
   * A new Bane Duo
   * New Races
   * New Collections
   * Various PvP Exploits (you know which ones) have been fixed
   * The first wave of a series of Social UI changes
   * Dozens of Mission, Visual, and Audio bug fixes

We know many of you are excited about not only the new content but some of these fixes and we are determined to get them to you.  We thank you for all your patience and understanding.

Finally, I'm finishing up our patch notes this morning and plan to post them later today (minus a few which refer to exploits) so you can see exactly what is changing.

Patch notes Feb. 22nd 2011 (http://forums.station.sony.com/dcuopc/posts/list.m?topic_id=21071)

Well that didn't last long. I played DCUO until my main reached level 30. Once that happened I found that it was difficult to find a team willing to bring me along on raids since I didn't have gear. I also discovered that I didn't enjoy any of the lvl 30 missions. The game seemed boring & really difficult all of the sudden to me. *shrugs*

Cancelled my sub & uninstalled. I guess I'll wait around for it to hit F2P or something.  <_<

I cancelled too.  Too bad you didn't get in before PSN died, MJB, as I found it much easier to team (although the raid-snobs made raiding unappealing for me).

If they would've added power sets and new mentors (along with new mission paths) I would have stayed.  More costume options would've helped too.

I played for the free month and that's it. I thought the new Green Lantern expansion would make me subscribe...sadly once I found that you can't actually join the GL corps (or wear the lantern emblem) but rather you become some lame reservist. It turned me right off. It seems like DCUO just goes out of it's way to make your toons feel like forever sidekicks.

Like MJB...I'm basically waiting for it to go F2P now.

And yet, at the same time, Batman comes across as bumbling fool.  In all the Batman mission dialogue/voiceovers he's always caught off guard, or needing you to fix his mistakes, or do something he can't do.  He's Batman, dangit!

Been like 2 months since someone replied to this...sooooo.....hey all! I've been playing this game since launch (didn't get in the beta) and I love it. There are things that make me upset at times, but its still my go-to game. (My 360 misses me terribly!) I'd been skating around the idea of joining FR and finally did (apparently this came a surprise to no one). Glad to be here and hope the league sticks with the game for a while.

Yeah, many folks have mentioned that on the Sony boards.  The problem with it is that DC won't let the iconic (read: trademarked) symbols be used without heeeeavy control (ie: they are only available on costume pieces and not as stand-alone emblem chest pieces).  :(

Villain or hero? If hero, look up Dreadlok, Princess Prism, Bow Sting, The Black Dragon, or shout out to see if any members on. Most likely one of the officers is on and can invite you to the league. If you don't get a reply thru shouting, try adding the LFG channel to your custom channels in the setting menu. Then send the message thru that. Best time to find any of us is between 6PM EST and 10PM. Hope to see ya soon.  :D

Mindscion
Sergeant Thunder
Acceleratus
Ghostlion
Ruorhn (Green Lantern)
Aeronaut

I may reroll Sergeant Thunder when I can afford the new pack, so I can try the shield weapon.

My villain is Major Ruin
