My faith in my fellow man was restored yesterday when I got home from work to find someone had busted out the window in my back door and made off with my laptop.  Of course, my FF disc was in it at the time.  They even had the presence of mind to take the power cord with it.  Oddly, that was the only thing that was taken......my large collection of DVDs and CDs went untouched (especially odd, since a used book/cd/dvd/record store is *just* down the street), stereo still intact, etc.  The bedroom was gone through, but nothing noticeable was missing.

I have to wonder, though.......what good is a motion sensor hooked up to an alarm system IF IT DOESN'T BLOODY WELL DETECT MOTION!!!!??!!!   :banghead: As it's located in a central room, they had to go by it at least three times.  Didn't even start dinner last night until 10, due to waiting for the police, forensics (who only found two possible prints), and rummaging around the garage to find big enough pieces of wood to cover up the hole. 

Most of the FF-related stuff that I've d/l'd has been backed up, but nothing too recent, nor anything that I've been working on (a grey dalek skin, some animal voice packs, various other photoshop projects).  Now I get the fun of dealing with the insurance company, and yelling at the alarm company.  yay.   :thumbdown:

That's awful. :angry: I know the work you lost can be really frustrating. At least your backups will help.

I know it's usually a slim chance, but I hope the police have some luck in tracking down your laptop. It may be worth your while to make an early run to the local flea market / swap meet and do some scouting. Still a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

Your alarm company should be anxious to give you satisfaction at some level, whether that goes to checking and upgrading your hardware or maybe a few free months on your service. These guys depend on reputation and if they know you are willing to recount the failure of their system and to name names, they stand to lose some real business...
