ok, trying this out to see if there's any interest, i'm finding myself rather out of practice with my texture work lately, so this is something i do personally to practice, the idea:

spend 30 minutes just skinning a head.

the head is the largest mapped piece of the freedom force body, and more and more skinners are making it their personal touch.
I remember alot of old skins that use the same face for every skin, which i'm not bashing, it's fair enough.
but if you're just not happy doing that, here's the challenge.

  • take 30 minutes, to skin -just the head- of a mainstream character.
  • using a base skin is fine, tho obviously the focus is to capture as much of the character in the face as you can.
  • just because it's a 30 minute challenge, if you arent happy after 30 minutes and decide to take 45, thats fine, but include a lil note in your post, and dont fret about it being perfect, it's just a quick practice excersize
  • the reason I say a mainstream character, is it's alot easier to post feedback about a character people recognise, although no-one will complain if you decide to do an original character anyway, using a mainstream gives people an equal footing to help you improve
  • this is NOT a competition, this is about practice, constructive feedback, and having fun. dont take it too serious  ;)

to get things started, I did a trial piece, was just over 30 mins, 34 to be precise, very very sketchy, no base, inspired by the volume 7 TPM cover

I'm hoping people will find the time to join in and encourage others in this practice, and once again, this isnt about who's the best skinner, practice is good for everyone, this is about having fun :)
