Uncle Yuan

It's been a busy Monday for the nascent Dr. Yuan.  Yesterday I took the last of the national board exams standing between me and the "MD."  I think it went rather well!  I also got confirmation from the Match board that I have matched for residency.  I won't find out where until Thursday, but I do know that I have.  Thursday at noon central time every fourth year medical student in the country will simultaneously open their match envelope in the time-honored and adrenaline-laced tradition known as "Match Day."

Now, I interviewed at seven different residency programs in the Twin Cities.  I figure that until I open the envelope on Thursday and collapse the probability field I can consider myself a 1/7 resident at all of them!

These are the last two hurdles between me and my degree, with the exception of simply passing my last three rotations.  Yay!

(There isn't a font size big enough to express Aunt Yuan's glee at me haing an income for the first time in four years!!)

 Congrats UY; hopefully you'll land somewhere nice!

But... does this mean that when you open your envelope, a kitty cat will die...?

Great news Yuan! As someone who has followed updates on your upcoming, and surely imminent MD-ness, I'm very happy to hear you're that much closer :D

Or not.

This is terrible news!  Does no one realise what this means?  'Tis the end of free medical advice on FR and the beginning of UY's new mantra, "Please see my billing assistant on the way out." :(

Or, if you subscribe to the "many worlds" interpretation, the cat will die and not die, and you'll get all seven residencies.

Oh, and congratulations!!!

And Yuan will find his lost narwhal mopping floors at a Denny's in El Salvador.

Okay, Uncle Yuan, I have a problem... I haven't decided which to call you yet, House, J.D., or Dr. Cox...

but other then that, congrats! Hope you get the residency you want. :)

Pyroclasm

So will we have to call you Dr. Yuan/Uncle Dr. Yuan/Dr. Uncle Yuan?
Either way, I will not cough for you. ;)
Congratulations Yuan.  I'm glad all the hard work is paying off!

Allopath! :P

Everyone knows you can't spell "voodoo" without a "D.O."!

But seriously, congrats. It's a nice feeling to finally escape from matriculation.
What specialty?

So it's a good thing I'll be an MD and not a DO!

yell0w_lantern

Yeah, I was poking fun at myself.

I notice you didn't say what specialty you're going into though.

Uncle Yuan

Family Medicine will be the "specialty"

Are you a DO?

yell0w_lantern

Yes, sir. I am of the lower class...  :icon_frown:

Also, you cannot spell Scooby Doo without it. What's your point?

And, how did you get a cat in the envelope? I have a difficulty just getting one of mine into an animal carrier.

Uncle Yuan

Well, it wasn't a cat, it was a residency program.  They are much larger than cats, but not as feisty and more willing to be forceably crammed into confined spaces.
