A Couple of Silly Questions

Yes, as the subject line says, I am 99% sure that these two questions are silly and I know the answer, but that 1% really is nagging.

1) Heavy Hitter: Does this Attribute add to a character like Order (or Thor) who regularly wields a batting weapon (ie hammer?). I want to say no, it is coded in the game for heros who pickup light poles. And since I think that is the answer, i want to ask why not because wouldn't it be a boon for this type of character? Why would a person wielding a weapon design for a swinging smash hammer pickup a light and possibly do more damage with the light post then the weapon designed for swinging?

2) Ahh bugger. Got caught up with typing out the first silly question I am drawing a blank on the second one. Can we say brain fart?

Re:  heavy hitter

Why not just make a normal thor punch do X damage, and a whack with the hammer to X + Y damage?  Also, I think it would be too hard for the scripter's to have FFX figure out which meshes have weapons, and which one don't, when they were being used, etc...  Thats as far as I know, of course.

That's the gist of it. HEAVY HITTER and HEAVY LIFTER enhance the effective strength of a character who has wielded or picked up an object. Wielding and throwing are special melee and projectile attacks that characters have with objects they find and the attributes affect only those attacks.

For normal melee attacks, the game pays no attention to whether you are using a weapon or your fists, feet, head-butt, etc. That's just an issue for the animations. You want attacks with a hammer to do more damage, just buy it to do more damage. Obviously, anything that gives a character extra damage is a boon for that kind of character, but it would introduce game balance problems, aside from any technical difficulties in getting it to work right. While the wielded weapons are not always available and have several disadvantages associated with them, nearly every character has melee attacks and many have several. You don't want to give an advantage to one very common type of attack that would prejudice people to design all their characters to use that exploit. Why not also have a BARE-FISTED BRAWLER attribute, or a KICK BOXER attribute for people with those sorts of melee attacks? For that matter, why not an attribute that gives extra damage to characters with capes?

Hey Stumpy,

I understand your point, I was just pointing a logic thought I had is all.

However, I remembered my second silly question.

2) Mental Damage: Mental Attacks do no real damage, but instead they change a characters status, ie blind, panic, rage... Correct? Or can you set up a mental attack that does actual mental damage.

stumpy

With FFX, you can swap out various state attacks for "mental damage" that impacts the target's health and bypasses resistances and things like INVULNERABILITY. Of course, the state attack has to affect the target in the first time. The amount of damage done depends on the expense of the state attack. There is more on this in the FFX manual.
