virus ate my computer.  lost all my work for the past year or so.   i've got some backup, but not the things i've been working on feverishly for the past month.

the virus shuts down the system and gives a blue screen 'dump prep' with a countdown.  when the countdown is done, your files are gibberish.  this didn't fool me, i didn't let it happen.  but then, it did it when you start your computer, claiming to do a system scan, but it didn't look right.  i tried to boot in safe mode, and it got me.  anyone heard of this?

i get to start all over again.

I haven't heard of this particular virus,

but it seems like there is a rash of crashes and viruses lately.

Just a reminder to back up yer stuffs, peeps!

If the virus didn't overwrite the file clusters, a good chunk of your data might still be restorable. Ideally, you should stop using it to prevent overwriting existing content, and either install Windows to another disk or use another PC. From there, you might be able to get your data back using appropriate software. Good luck!
