well tomorrows halloween and i'm working the "supper" shift, so I want to try and "festive" the thing up.
problem is my I'venever actually thought about holloween themed food before.... and my interweb searching only seems to reveal sweets.
so i'm hitting you guys up for some suggestions :P and the cheesier the better I guess, I wanna really ham it up. :P

basicly I have about an hour and a half tomorrow to prep this and get it all cooked, my menu needs to consist of 4 meals, atleast 1 must contain no meat, and I cant go crazy on expensive ingredients -_-

so yah, help me out guys! :P

Some quick and semi-easy ideas.

1) Serve chilli (can be vegetarian) and top each bowl with a slice of chedar cut in the shape of a jackolantern or ghost.

2) Homemade pot pie with crust cut in a jackolantern shape.

3) As a side dish, make Spider Bread

4) Finger Sandwiches (I'm trying these for my party - use fresh dough or prepackaged breadstick dough.  Place on pan and mould into long finger shape.  Score knuckles into the top and place a sliver of pepperoni cut into a fingernail shape at the tip. Bake, cut in half and fill with sandwich filling of your choice.

5) Also found this page while trying to find the site I got some of the previous entries from.  One of these might work.

EDIT: Found the page. It has the spider bread here too as garnish and is a nice mix of dessert and meal scattered among the links. The presentation on this one strikes me as very funny.  :)

Good luck!

A lot can be done by simply changing the names of fairly routine foods - spaghetti and meatballs can become "tapeworms in bloody eyeball sauce", for example.

In fact, it seems as if some fairly classic British dishes would work fine with no modification whatsoever.  Toad in the Hole (whatever that is) springs to mind.

Black Pudding.  I rest my case.

UnfluffyBunny

thanks for the links GG ^_^ and the suggestion there yuan :)
for the record, toad in the hole is sausages cooked into yorkshire pudding
and black pudding is... well.... pig intestine filled with congealing pigs blood and bits of pig fat.... kinda like a sausage.. but...you know... made out of blood o_o

Mr. Hamrick

had finger sandwiches for lunch and now my stomach doesn't feel so good.  I don't think I should've cut off that witches fingers to make sandwiches.

Adventures in Halloween catering (now with bad digital pictures!)

Well, the party was Friday night, and I think it went pretty well, though we were a few guests shy.  Even so, I was very pleased with how things turned out.

The main snack table:

The empty spot in the back is for my friend's hashbrown casserole (mmmmm)

Some details
[spoiler]
Finger Sandwiches

As mentioned earlier, breadsticks from a can brushed with egg for a nice sheen and a piece of peperoni for the nail, all baked up and then split and filled.  Fillings included roast beef, turkey, swiss, and bacon all in various combinations.

Cake

In theory, if you make a certain cut in a 14 X 9 cake, you can move the top to the bottom and get a great bat shape.  It worked last year, but last year I didn't use the butter recipe for the cake and apparently the butter recipe is very fragile.  Everything started to crumble as I started to move it so the bat cake was a no-go.  However, since it looked like a mouth (and I was pretty tired by this point anyway) I decided to forgoe the full icing and just make it into a monster head.  :)

Brain Freeze

This is the ice for the punch.  It's just a $4 mold I found at Wal-Mart, plus water with two drops of red and two drops of blue food coloing.  I was quite thrilled with how it turned out.

This is how it looked in the punch (gingerale + cramberry juice) Cool, huh?  :D

Boo Chips

It's hard to make out in this picture of the snack tray in the living room, but those potato chips are all shaped like ghosts.  I found them at the World Market under the lable "Boo Chips".  Not only are they cute, but they are REALLY yummy. Not too greasy or salty, just very good potato chips.

Oh yeah, and that pile of cookies in the main spread are home made ginger cookies with vanilla glaze.

So, how did your party go UB?

El Condor

Wow, GG, I don't think that reading these boards have ever made me salivate quite like that before.  :D
It all looks tres yummy!

RE: UB being sick

:( I'm sorry to hear that.  That's gotta reek.  Hopefully  next time will be better

RE: the spread

Thanks everyone.  I thought it turned out great and it was kinda fun to do as well.

RE: finger sandwiches

Not much to tell really.  Get those breadsticks you can find in the refridgerated section of the supermarket, open them up and unroll.  Cut each stick in half and round to a finger shape (pinch off a little dough if you want to make warts) Take pepperoni and cut into quarters, then square two sides for a fingernail shape.  Press firmly into the tip of each "finger", then use a knife to make indentations where the knuckles would be.  Brush with raw egg.  Bake as directed.  Let cool and then for the hard part: split each one down the middle.  Fill with sandwich filling of your choice - in my case I used a pinch of lettuce, some thin delisliced lunchmeat, and occasionally some swis cheese.
