After that spooky title you must be wondering what this is going to be about.

In short: I am planning to build a new pc over the summer, quite a good gaming and 3d software pc. In order to get the best out of a 64bit system and a direct X10 graphics card I need to uses windows Vista.

I've heard a lot about programs not working with vista so I'd just like to ask if any of you know what ones.

The games I play most are WoW, GW and CoH. Do these all work with vista?

Also can you set a a network between a 32 bit windows xp computer and a 64 bit vista computer? This is what I'm planning to do.

Is wireless internet slower than cable internet? As in, if my main computer has cable internet can I beam it upstairs to my new comp and still experience a decent speed? How is the speed affected if both computers are using the internet at once?

Does FFVTTR work on 64bit vista?

Also, I heard that some programs that don't work on 64bit can be ran in 32bit mode. Does this work well?

Thankyou for reading

1) Sorry, can't tell you whether those games will run on Vista or not.  Wait and see, probably, or ask the tech support staff for those particular games.

2) The network doesn't care whether it's 32 bit or 64 bit.  As long as both computers are running the same network protocol (TCP/IPv4) you're good, and MS would be nuts to break the network protocol (well, more than they already do.)

3)  Wireless could be quite a bit slower, depending on which wireless standard (or non-standard as the case may be).  Your network card on the computer with broadband cable access will probably run at 100 Mb and that is probably the fastest you can hope for.  Wireless is also subject to interference, particularly from other wireless devices such as other wireless cards and some cordless phones.  Unless you're a performance junkie it probably won't slow you down to the point where you're beating your head on your keyboard.

4) If your computers are both on the Internet in parallel, they will share the available bandwidth.  You'd probably only see a drastic reduction in speed if they are both doing something network intensive at the same time.  If one computer is acting as the gateway for the other one, then it's doing all of the work.

guildwars runs fine on vista no difference

wireless is fine aslong as you have a good connection to the internet, tho when im running wireless at the weekens on my laptop i am sat about 2-3 meters away from the router so ive got 5bars maxed signal at excellent strength - tho we did take it down stairs and had 4 bars (very good) and even wandered into the garden and still had the 4 bars.

i havent found a difference in the speed between the wireless and non, im wired currently but it seems the same as it was over the weekend when i wasnt.

Thanks for the info people.

I had a look around on the internet yesterday at prices and the like. I think I'll just stick with basic vista, to save my money.
It doesn't look like there's any functionality not in it that I need.
