Video Issue with FFvTR

I just picked this up today. It installed no problems. It starts no problems. The main menu shows up no problems. When I start a new game the opening cutscenes show up OK. But when the game actually starts, the screen is completely blank save for arrows, character picture, and status bars, everything else is pure black. My system is:

PIII 800Mhz
512 Mb ram
64Mb GForce 2 Ultra video card.

I called tech support, they were worse than useless, after I completely broke down the issue, his response was 'we no longer support that game'

So if anyone has suggestions, I'm happy to hear them.

This was an issue that *many* people had with the game, it was a wavy visual effect that only worked with properly updated video drivers.  The first fix you should try is downloading the most current drivers for your video card.

There is a workaround, if updating your drivers doesn't work, that turns the effect off.  Sadly, the instructions on how to do that are in the old message database, that we don't have access to right now.  If you're still having trouble with it, I'm sure there's a couple people around here that remember how to get it done.
