So, Moonlight...

I can't quite pin it down. It's sort of a cross between a not-quite-Angel and a not-quite-Veronica Mars (even without the actual presence of Jason "Logan" Dohring).

Anyway, sort of a fun show, maybe. Having a hot chick from the Underworld movies (is she in any non-vampire genre stuff) and a hot chick from Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang isn't hurting it. No great shakes so far, but I can see it growing on me. At some point, it will need to do something that makes it more distinctive, lest it become Angel with fewer monsters.

While I'm at it, some quotes I enjoyed (none of which I think are spoilery)
Quote from: Moonlight S01E01
JOSEF: You're only 90; you've never been chased by a torch-bearing mob.

JOSEF: It's a threat to our secrecy! <annoyed> What is this: the 1720s?

PROFESSOR ELLIS: Well, I do have a study group, for some of my more motivated students.
BETH: I'm really motivated!

BTW,
I think I lost track of the TA's (the killer's) motivation. I mean, he says he thinks the professor is a great prophet and he didn't want the professor wasting his pranic energy on the dimwitted students he was seducing. So, he was killing the girls so that the professor could fulfill his "true destiny" without the distractions. Okay, so far - I guess that's what anyone would do...

But, he was also going to great lengths to implicate the professor in the murders by leaving the faked bite marks (while the professor is a self-declared "vampire") and the mask that everyone knows is from the professor's office. If one's goal is to remove the professor's distractions, it seems like one should avoid getting him wrapped up in a murder trial...
i agree . . . i can see this show growing on me.  especially with what i saw in the previews.

Actually, I'll go the route of Angel meets "Beauty and The Beast" with a bit of Forever Knight thrown in.

as for the episode itself
I think the TA's motives were basically in tune with "worshiping" his professor and truly believing his professor's rhetoric.  There was some more to it but the ending seemed a bit rushed but most of that may have been the actor's delivery of the lines.
I agree about the worship and that's why I'm confused about the motivation. If you worship someone and think they need fewer distractions so they can fulfill their grand destiny, then why would you try to get them accused of murder? Unless you think their great destiny is to be fulfilled in jail...
Am I the only one who found this show to be totally derivitive to the point of distraction?

In addition to the shows you mention, the basic premise of being a vampire who never preys on women, children or "innocents" ... but only on the many human monsters out there ... sounded so much like the set up for that hit Showtime series "Dexter" about the serial killer who has the exact same code.

Then of course there's Smallville, and this vampire's powers are portrayed an awful lot like Clark's minus the whole blood thing.

However, I did love the blonde.    I thought that she would have made the perfect Dale Arden had the show Flash Gordon ever attempted to get the story right.

Count me among those in the "I can see this growing on me" camp.  Definitley good enough to be added to my taping rotation...

Not thrilled they removed most of the vampire weaknesses.  And, they need to have better individual episode mysteries.

But the overarching plot (and premise) is pretty good- and the chemistry between the two leads is palpable.
Is it as good as Angel? Don't be silly. there wont be a Joss level show on TV until Joss comes back and does one himself.  Still, its better than a lot of stuff on TV currently.

The timeslot worries me- I predict a quick death unless they move it.  And they should move it, the show deserves better than to be left to die on Friday night.
My assumption is that either he was trying to emulate what he presumed his idol was about or that he was trying to make his idol a martyr for his beliefs.  Or something along that line.
Never watched Angel, or Dexter... so I can't offer an opinion about that.

But man, did I love Forever Knight.... and that was the first thing that jumped in my mind while watching the promos for this.  No desire to see this show though.

The show has potential.  Haven't "warmed" up to the lead yet, but I really like Jason Dohring and the actress who played Beth.  I'm hoping Shannin won't be in every episode since her anarexic-looking self is a bit hard on the eyes.  (Would someone just toss her a sammich?)  It had an "80's" vibe to it, which wasn't a negative IMO.  Was a fan of Angel and Veronica Mars.  I didn't feel it resembled either.  Although I may have seen an episode or two of Forever Knight and just from my vague recollection can see where there are similarities.  Hoping it sticks around.

All it did was remind me what an awesome show Angel was.  Man, I miss that.  I just didn't get into the feel of it, the whole 'Interview With A Vampire', him narrating, the way he handled himself...just didn't grab me.  The rich vampire friend was funny in that one scene, but that's the extent of my interest in the episode.  Even the blond girl reminded me of the blond in the early Angel shows.

I have the contact info of the blond girl from the early Angel shows.

Um....It sounds an awful lot like It's Marvel's Hannibal King made for TV...In that, he's a vampire private eye who's made a vow to not feed from or kill innocent humans for sustenance.

Or Forever Knight, except he's a prive investigator and not a police detective, the coroner is apparently his blood supplier and either a vampire himself or just a freak who drinks blood, and the romantic interest is a reporter for a dirt sheet.
