I just got a new HP with Vista and was wondering if someone new of a Vista compatible FPS that they could suggest/recommend?

At least till someone figures out how to get FFvttR running on Vista.   Thanks.

Here's a partial list of Vista-compatible First Person Shooters that I've cobbled together from this page

- Americas Army 2.7 (32-bit)
- Battlefield 2 & Special Forces (Run BF2.exe As Administrator.)
- Battlefield 2142(32bit)
- Battlefield 2142(64bit) - Same settings used on XP, crashes to desktop at every map change (after a certain period) due to low video card memory (256mb). Disable Areo or set texture settings lower.
- Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
- Call of Duty & United Offensive
- Call of Duty 2 (run cod2mp_s.exe in XP SP2 compability mode; SP fine.)
- Call of Duty 2 upgraded to 1.3 works on Home Premium RTM no trouble (32 bit)
- Counter-Strike 1.6
- Counter-Strike Condition Zero
- Counter-Strike Source
- Day of Defeat
- Delta Force Black Hawk Down & Team Sabre
- Deus Ex
- Doom 3 (Requires working OpenGL support)
- Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (Requires working OpenGL support)
- Far Cry (64-bit and 32-bit with v1.4 patch)
- F.E.A.R (32-Bit).Runs fine in XP SP2 Compatibility
- Half Life
- Half Life 2 & Half Life 2: Episode One
- Halo: Combat Evolved (requires patch)
- Halo: Custom Edition(needs a update tho download http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=3&fid=1884)
- KISS: Psycho Circus The Nightmare Child
- Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault Installed MOHAA Ver1.1 on 32-bit Ultimate, plays fine with no problems at all, multiplayer untested as yet.
- Quake 2
- Quake 3 Arena
- Quake 4 (v1.3) Works. Tested on Vista Enterprise 64-bit and Vista Ultimate 32-bit
- Rainbow Six: Lockdown
- Rainbow Six: Vegas
- SWAT 4 & The Stetchkov Syndicate (32-bit)
- Unreal Tournament 1999 Game of the Year Edition
- Unreal Tournament 2004 - The text to speech engine switches from the game engine to the one supplied with Vista, if you don't get voice taunts from other players, check your control panel text to speech voice to make sure it works.
- Wolfenstein: Enemy territory 2.60b (Worked perfectly with Ultimate RTM, usin PNY Verto GeForce 6600GT, and nVidia 97.46 forceware for Windows vista)

Hope that helps.

Of the games listed, the ones I recommend are Deus Ex, Half Life, Half-Life 2, the CounterStrike games, Halo, Far Cry, and F.E.A.R. I haven't played Rainbow Six: Vegas but I hear it's pretty good (not as good as the original Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear games though).

1+1

i like quake 3 arena so thats good too

I defenitely appreciate the responses.   This is an awesome list.   Seeing that the Battlefield games were on the list, I pulled out my Battlefield Vietnam game and installed that to see if it would work.   The only glitch that I found so far is that it restarts after every level, which is no big deal.

QuoteBattlefield 2 & Special Forces (Run BF2.exe As Administrator.)

How do you run as Administrator though?   Thanks.

Not having either Windows Vista or Battlefield 2 myself, I can only assume that it means playing the game logged into Windows as an administrator.

Actually, now that I think about it, what you could do to get around the whole Vista-compatibility thing is just have a dual boot PC that has both Vista and XP. That way, you can still play Windows XP-only games. Here's a tutorial on how to set up a dual boot Vista XP machine.

on vista, to run as administrator:

right click and chose run as administrator, not sure if it asks for passwords or whatever if you arent the admin on your pc, im the only user on my laptop so yea
