Buffy MMO

I'm a fan of both Buffy and Angel but I don't know what to think about a Buffy MMO.

I think that like many other IP's it would make a better "enemy terriotry" or "call of duty 4" style game. In other words fast paced action with collision detection yet at the same time you've got levels and continuity between matches.

Have players create Vampires, Werewolves, Slayers, Demons, Enhanced Humans, Magic users and Watchers. Track their statistics, experience, skills and equipment. Make it so that it takes a couple of hours to play through the objectives of 3 maps, culminating in either hell on earth or preventing the apocalypse depending on which side wins. Add another few 3 map 'campaigns' and you have one hell of a game that does not require monthly fees and that doesent compete with the freak that is WOW.

Now see, I have no interest in a 'plotless' Buffy Game such as you describe, lugaru, but would sign up for a Buffy MMO in a heartbeat.

My problem with a Buffy game, as it is with many licensed MMO settings, is that the setting isn't really built for game-play.  What classes would there be?  Sure, by the end of the show there were lots of Slayers, so you could easily have lots of Slayer player-characters - but what other classes or character types would be balanced against them, particularly in terms of combat?  If you let players play good vampires, that's fairly setting-breaking.  I guess you could also have magic-users, and watchers - but particularly with that last one, how could they be balanced against the other two in-game?

Mind you all this is moot since I'd bet serious money this turns out to be vaporware. . .

Previsionary

I would assume they would use Buffy AND Angel's shared universes meaning they have quite a diverse set of characters to choose from including power users, artifact abusers, and supernaturals such as monsters (werewolves, loan sharks, dragons, w/e roamed LA/Sunnydale). If you just simplify it to Slayers and Vampires...sure there're not many classes, but both Buffy and Angel have fought more than vampires on almost every show and the main cast was pretty diverse in their jobs as well (slayer, normie, researcher, witches, half demon/higher being/hume/precog, demon from other world, ancient one/god, watcher, "key", vamps, werewolves, lawyer/street thug with makeshift weapons, etc.). Not to mention they have literally tons of comics and books to draw inspiration from (Fray, the non-canon books, angel season 6 and buffy season 8) if they so need it.

BUT...I don't see this going anywhere without a very creative team. It'll probably just fade into obscurity like that Serenity/Firefly MMO.
