What a truly bizarre story:

I'm not sure why it would take TWO YEARS for authorities to be called... A few days perhaps... at most a week or so... but TWO YEARS?!?

Figure Fan

I..but...wouldn't..

I've got nothing. Speechless.

I read about this.  I couldn't believe it either.  I was wondering where did the boyfriend go for 2 years?  In the article i read it didn't mention if the home had two bathrooms or more.  It seems like both were pretty antisocial.

The dangers of an all-cheese diet...

Seriously, I'm not convinced we're getting an accurate impression of what went on here. How do they know she was in the bathroom for two whole years? I don't think she's a credible witness and I have my doubts about the boyfriend, too.

And, the implication is that she has been sitting on that seat for two solid years, but that seems a little unlikely. She must have been up and moving around at least a little from time to time. It doesn't seem like someone could stay sitting on a relatively hard surface like that for two years without suffering some serious health complications, like bed sores, infections, maybe even gangrene. They say her legs may have atrophied, but that seems like the tip of the iceberg. It seems like she would have severe back pain from being in that position for such a long time, not to mention swelling and circulatory issues.

Pyroclasm

But...her flesh grew around the toilet seat...  That in itself is disturbing and would indicate she didn't get up don't you think?
They're not sure she's mentally ill?  I would say no sane person would choose to do what she did.

Ew.  Just Ew.

This reminds me of an episode of nip/tuck featuring a lady who had sat on a couch for 4 years.  It wasn't pretty.  It was supposedly based on true events.  At least this one didn't have any trouble going to the bathroom.

Mr. Hamrick

i'm just thankful there weren't pictures.

EEEWWWW

Pfeh. I officially don't believe the story as portrayed. I am really just wondering if CNN was hoodwinked (meaning they just picked up a local story off the wire without really checking into the original reporting) or if this is one of those many news stories that is reported inaccurately to make it seem more dramatic. Or both.

The Hitman

Fake. The sherrif's name was Whipple, like Mr. Whipple, the toilet paper mascot from the 80's.

There we go. A month or so is much more believable and some of the symptoms listed are more in line with what one would expect.

I find it interesting that the sheriff thinks the boyfriend ought to be charged with mistreatment but also thinks the boyfriend has diminished capacity.

 I also noticed that the event takes place in Ness City and the CNN piece mentions "buzz Ness", similar to "Business", as in "someone is giving you the business"...

Uncle Yuan

I agree - this is much more likely.  Anyone sitting on a relatively narrow seat for even a couple of days non-stop would have developed pressure ulcers.  Two years?  Her entire behind would have rotted off.  The whole "skin growing over the toilet" things was bunk.  The report about her "getting groggy" makes me wonder if she wasn't catatonic - a very odd condition with many manifestations of varying degrees of "avolition," including the famous "waxy catatonia."

Well, when you gotta go, you gotta go.
