(psst: it's Ethan HAAS, not Ethan Hawk)

GhostMachine

Its already been confirmed that the Ethan Haas stuff has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, in case you haven't heard yet. The Ethan Haas stuff has to do with some video or computer game.

There's a few observations I'd like to make:
In the trailer, there's a brief glimpse of part of the monster walking behind some buildings, but its so quick that if you blink you'll miss it. However, there is an animated .gif (with part of the picture cut off; you don't see the lower part of the monster) out there. Someone also posted an .flv file which showed the entire picture, including the monster's back legs, but it looks like that has been taken down. :(

The scene of the monster is at around the 1:23 to 1:25 mark or so, if you watch the trailer with the Paramount and Bad Robot logos at the start.

The scene with shadows behind the curtains are of two people in biohazard suits with one of the women between them and it looks like she's either mutating or something is exploding out of her.

Its been pointed out that one of the viral websites for the movie is for a fictional Japanese deep sea drilling company whose name is an anagram of "Tortuga", which is the Spanish word for "Turtle". And the monster does look kind of like it could be some sort of mutated turtle from what can be seen of it. (And no, this isn't going to be an American Gamera movie!)
BWPS

I like movies where the camera doesn't go all shaky when people are running. It's a shame, this movie might be pretty good but the preview gave me a kind of headache.

Or, if you're right, its Tort's big break!

BatWing

cloverfield is the name.
yup they kept it.

B A D

"Cloverfield " is the  government designation of the site after the ...whatever.... attacks manhattan.

The camera is recorded in "what was formerly known as " Central Park. Which of course indicates that Central Park aint there no more.

Im looking forward to seeing this from someone who works in the city. I knows all those streets like the back of my hand.

And, in case anybody wants to actually see the monster, who hasn't already, it's apparently here...

The particular drawing was apparently revealed as fan art.

There are also a couple of other pictures which are supposedly what the monster looks like, but none of them look anything like each other.

So we'll have to wait and see.

By the way, as bit a secret as they seem to be making the whole thing, they may have even released a few fakes themselves just to keep people confused about what the actual monster looks like.

Mr. Hamrick

actually here is an exclusive picture from Hammond Global Media (of Hamrick Global Media) of the Cloverfield Monster:
That's right folks, it's a mutated Rosie O'Donnell.  This is the real reason that she left The View.  It's also been kept secret because they still want people to see the movie and not get sick.

 • This bit of humor brought to you by the folks at HGM: Hammond Global Media.

 LMAO!!

UnkoMan

Ah, so I was mislead. Curses...
It is a pretty sweet looking monster though.

That image has been circulating quite a while, though I must admit I really like that design.

Podmark

I'm actually really looking forward to this movie. The secrecy of it all has me intrigued but the previews themselves make it look very interesting.

GhostMachine

The whale monster design Unko posted is just fan art that's been around for months.

Take a look at these pics:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v447/ignatz/album%2034/cloverfield3flat.jpg
http://img5.ranchoweb.com/images/hyenatraxvegas/cloverfieldmonster.jpg

I've read at a couple different sites that those two pictures are either concept drawings of the monster and were confirmed to be on target by some reviewers who have already seen the film, or were actually done by someone who has seen the film. The second picture is apparently closer to what the monster actually looks like. (I'm taking everything with a grain of salt, myself)

UnkoMan

I've seen these recently. In fact, I was going to post both them, and the other couple done in that style.

But, in the midst of it, I suddenly realized... This movie might not even be that good. Still, I'll definately go watch it, just because I like giant monsters.

Mr. Hamrick

To be honest, i will probably wait for it on DVD.  That is if I see it at all.

Ares_God_of_War

the WHale moster is pretty awesome looking

Mr. Hamrick

hmm, i may have changed my mind after reading the review on Ain't It Cool News.

GhostMachine

Apparently there's an actual picture of the monster out. I saw it over at the Death Valley Driver Video Review board, where someone posted a cleaned up (ie, brightened and tweaked) version after someone else posted the original, and it looked kind of like it could have been made in Photoshop to begin with, though. So I am taking it with a grain of salt.

If it IS a legit picture, the monster is going to look somewhat fairly cool yet a bit disappointing at the same time.

detourne_me

When's it coming out in your neck of the woods?
It opens here on the 24th, so i'll definately be inline to watch it.
from that review though,, it doesn't sound as genre reinventing as he was fawning about.   The Host already covered the story of a victim family with the little people scurrying around trying to find - and fight for - their loved ones while the government and military go ape.

thanoson

True. The Host was brilliant too. I get it on the 18th and will probably see it soon after with a posting on this very site. I'm excited.

Ares_God_of_War

Well I went to go see it. I wasnt all that impressed. I do think the whale monster was cooler looking. It was still an o.k. movie but definatly not at full price
Also the 2nd picture by ghost machine is the closest to how the creature looks but the creature is alot smoother. also the creature drops these weird tick things. and yes the girl does actually explode after being bitten. I couldnt tell if they "impregnated" her with one of them or something or if she just explodes just because
TheMarvell

I just saw it and I really enjoyed it. One of the most intense movies I've seen in a while. Wasn't disappointed at all and really lived up to it's underground hype, imo.
