My favorite is the Tekken series i guess.

Initially i liked King, Yoshimitsu, and Jack(Robot). But then i also got used to making the combos for Nina and Julia too. So ok. Just the 5 of them. :)

I was also a Street Fighter fan though. And like so many, i liked using Ryu at First. But then as i tried out the other different characters, i wanted to use the one the least liked of them all. Zangief. :P At first, it was like some sort of challenge for me,trying to do his move right,and beating tough opponents. But then, i am wrestling fan too, so it's kinda fun for me spin pile driving my opponents to the ground. ^_^

What about you guys? Have any?

What I love about fighting game characters is that they are such weird construct... they have a TON of personality and visual flair but no real well thought out background.

As for characters I like there is Raiden from Mortal Combat (you are a god and eventually destroy the earth), the Caopoera guy from Tekken (because I studied capoera, and because he is 100% random button smashing) and Jubei from Samurai Showndown. You know, the tough old guy with an eye patch and two swords... totally cool and great moves.

I would say MUGEN, you'd know why ;)
And next hmmm...maybe Marvel vs Capcom 2?

Symbols I'll be using:

1.KOF=King of Fighters
2.FF=Fatal Fury, which RB/Real Bout is a part of.
3.SS=Samurai Showdown
4.SF=Street Fighter
5.AOF=Art of Fighting
6.Tekken=Tekken. ;)

First, characters.  I'll list the names of the series these characters appeared in beside their names, except for crossovers(besides King of Fighters(KOF)). It'll be a long list, because there's a lot characters in fighting games. In no particular order:

1.Yashiro (KOF)
2.K9999 (KOF)
3.K' (KOF)
4.Oswald (KOF)
5.Terry Bogard (KOF, FF)
6.King (KOF, AOF)
7.Robert (KOF, FF.  However, I don't like his KOFXI and NGBC versions.  He looks and sounds like a drunk. :thumbdown:)
8.Geese Howard (KOF, FF, AOF)
9.Orochi Shermie (KOF)
10.Geonitz (KOF)
11.Ryuji Yamazaki (KOF)
12.Heidern (KOF)
13.Takuma (KOF, AOF)
14.Saishu (KOF)
15.Ramon (KOF)
16.Bob Wilson (FF)
17.Rick Strowd (FF)
18.Jin Chonrei (FF)
19.Hoamaru (SS)
20.Jubei (SS)
21.Charlotte (SS)
22.Ken (SF)
23.Sagat (SF)
24.Gen (SF)
25.Remy (SF)
26.Yun (SF)
27.Yang (SF)
28.Hugo (SF)
29.Alex (SF)
30.Necro (SF)
31.John Talbain (Darkstalkers)
32.Rock Howard  (Garou)
33.Kim Jae Hoon (Garou)
34.Bruce (Tekken)
35.Jin (Tekken)
36. Jubei (FF)
37.Raiden/Big Bear (FF. The two are the same character, but Raiden's name is changed to Big Bear in Fatal Fury 2.)
38.Duck King (KOF, FF)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, my favorite fighting games, in no particular order:
1.KOF98
2.KOFXI
3.RBFF2 (It's part of the FF(Fatal Fury) series actually))
4.SS V Special
5.SF III: Third Strike
6.Capcom vs SNK 2
7.Tekken 5
8.Soul Caliber III
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's about it.

Favourite fighting games (favourite characters in each game in parentheses):

- Tekken 3 (Bryan Fury, Forrest Law, Ling Xiaoyu, King)
- Soul Calibur II (Talim, Yun-Seong, Mitsurugi)
- Virtua Fighter 4 (Lei Fei, Vanessa Lewis)
- Street Fighter III: Third Strike (Ibuki, Yun, Yang, Makoto)
- Bushido Blade (Tatsumi)

I tend to gravitate towards the faster, but typically equipped with less-damaging and shorter range attacks, character types (with a few exceptions like Bryan Fury, King, Mitsurugi, Vanessa Lewis, Makoto) since I like playing at a frenetic, all-offense, pace.

Silver Shocker

I always loved playing as Chun-Li and Guile in SF2. Was always really good with those characters, but as a younger kid I liked playing as Blanka. As I got better I'v come to belive Blanka is not that good.

Outamyhead

I liked Guile from SF2, don't remember which version it was but when you were playing other people and they would always go nuts with the offensive fireballs and sonic booms, I'd return the volleys but move up the screen and over them for the shadow throw (would take almost half the energy off the opponent).

GhostMachine

Favorite characters to use:

Tekken series: King, Bryan Fury, Lee Chaolan, Gun Jack (NOT the other Jacks), Yoshimitsu and Nina Williams.

Soul Calibur (I've only played II and III) series: Cervantes, Kilik, Mitsurugi, Seung Mina and Talim.

Mortal Kombat series (haven't played anything since Deadly Alliance): Johnny Cage and Scorpion. `nuff said. (I also like to use Raiden and Sonya Blade, just not nearly as much as Cage and Mr. Toasty)

DOA2 Hardcore (STILL ticked the series went X-Box exclusive afterward): Bayman, Bass Armstrong, Ein and Helena.

I don't care for Yoshimitsu much in the Soul Calibur games because a lot of the best moves from the Tekken series are either absent or hard to pull off vs. certain fighters. (even trying to use any of the teleportation moves in SC III is a waste of time)

Haven't played any Street Fighters since II Turbo, unless any of the crossover with other series stuff (Like X-Men vs. Street Fighter) counts.

Playing fighting games with a PS2 controller is a serious pain because its hard as sin to pull off any of the more complex moves, and the only joystick controllers I've seen were either crap or cost too much, so I tend to stick with wrestling games and RPGs.

Oh, and I generally hate to use cheap (ie, easy to win with due to having super-moves) characters, which is why I've not listed Jann Lee from DOA2:Hardcore or a bunch of characters from the Tekken games (Heihachi, either of the Laws, Eddy Gordo, or Christie). Some of the characters I have listed CAN be cheap (for example, I can pretty much destroy anyone in the Tekken games just by using Lee's Hitman stance moves, but where's the fun in that?), but there are a few who are nothing BUT cheap...... (Paul Phoenix is only cheap due to one move; the Deathfist, but I don't like playing as him all that much)

The biggest drawback in the Tekken games (dunno about Tekken 5, haven't played it yet) is that you can pretty much pull off air juggles at will with any character. It's not the dial-a-combo fest that Mortal Kombat is, but when you've got two guys who are pretty much high-level experts with the characters they're using, it basically becomes a race to see who can launch the other guy into the air first, and then it's seeing who can pull off the longest uninterrupted attack string, which is fun the first few times, but quickly becomes boring. That's the biggest edge the Virtua Fighter series has over the Tekken games, since it's way harder to string more than 3 or 4 attacks in VF with any fighter because of the less forgiving "just frame" system... but despite all this, I still prefer Tekken over VF, the total package of presentation (probably the best nu skool beats and big beats soundtrack of any video game series, and I love the design aesthetic of the characters) and fun gameplay (when not in a competitive setting) makes it one of my favourite game series in any genre.

It took me a while to get used to using the PS2 controller for fighting games, and I don't think I'll ever be as good with a PS2 controller as with an arcade stick (at least with games that I learned to play in the arcade, such as the Tekken games and Street Fighter III). I used to have a second-hand Hori Arcade Stick (with the round ball on the joystick, which is standard on the Asian cabinets that I grew up playing on), which was the best joystick I ever used in terms of simulating the feel of an actual arcade joystick, but it wasn't in very good condition when I got it, and only lasted me a couple of years before the springs wore out. If you're still looking for one, I think you can find them on-line these days for as low as $80.
