Watchmen casting- One dead right, one maybe and one dead wrong

The Hitman

I think making The Watchmen into a movie is a big mistake.

This is coming from a guy that has no problem with directors taking "creative liberties" with the characters and stories they use. If something's different from the comic, I usually enjoy it whereas some of my friends flat- out boycott a film because "Spidey's costume doesn't look right" or "Dr. Doom never had powers" (both real excuses). But I have a feeling that there is so much that is going to me left out of the movie, that it'll end up a shell of its original masterpiece.

Granted, Zach Snyder did a great job on 300, and says he's an avid fan of The Watchmen. But there's no way, as far as I can think of, that he'll be able to do the story right.

And as far as casting goes, I think Jude Law is the only thing they got right. For the Comedian, I agree Tom Jane could play the younger one, with Ron Pearlman as the older one.

I'm guess I'm just a little leery about the end product of the film at this point. I'm done ranting.

El Condor

Hola amigos! I thought I'd bring this thread back, seeing as they've published casting info on the official website, IMDB, and Wikipedia.

I have to admit, I'm a little bummed about the loss of Jude Law.  That's not because I know Matthew Goode can't play the role as well (I don't), but the loss of star power to this movie will definitely hurt its ability to compete with the rest of the stuff that will be out there.  I must say, however, that casting Jackie Earl Haley as Rorschach is sheer genius.  He WAS the actor I was trying to imagine, but couldn't.

Thanks for the update. :)

I don't know about Crudup playing Dr. Manhattan (and he might be fine), but I can see potential in the rest of the casting.

It's true that someone like Jude Law would have brought more star power to the casting, but I am not sure that would be a good thing in this kind of project. Ozymandius isn't really the lead role in the story or anything, at least not in the way Moore told it. It was an ensemble piece, so having one actor be so well known and the others not might cause trouble.

FWIW, I though Goode was excellent in Imagine Me & You and Match Point. He plays a charming and sympathetic character very well, which he will have to if Ozymandius is to come across as anything more than a monster.
