I saw an ad for this the other night and it looks intriguing.  Anyone folowing this show?  Anyone read the books?

bredon7777

Yes, and Yes.

It's not a bad show, but it's relationship to the books is superficial at best.

I don't mind some of the changes, but they've done some unnecssary changes I find really irritating (but of course, I'm a purist when it comes to that sort of thing).

I don't have cable or satellite, but I did watch the pilot on the nbc website, and I thought it was pretty good.

Glitch Girl

Been watching it regularly as well (except for this week's - recoded but haven't had time to sit down yet and enjoy it)  Very good show, but only thinly related to the books (I've read the first four) To enjoy it, you have to treat them each as separate entities.   Still, it's well written and well produced.  I've only been let down by one episode whose sole purpose seemed to be to set up a potential recurring villian character, the rest have been pretty solid.

BTW: I reccomend the books as well.  First one was really great, second wasn't quite as good but they've been steadily going up since then.

Protomorph

I caught an episode last week (the one where the people were "dying" in his office), and quite enjoyed it.

Anyone know where I can watch/download old episodes?  Sci-Fi only appears to have the most recent available.

Really?  Last I checked, they only had the pilot.

This is good news for me!

I've been watching this show regularly and I've found it to be quite enjoyable.  Sure there are differences from the books but I thoroughly enjoy it.  I especially liked the episode "Storm Front," which was suppose to be the original two-hour pilot.  I really hope they bring in characters like McCoy, Mavra, and "the Merlin" that are featured in the books.

Also, on a side note, don't you just want to scream to Dresden to just flat out tell Murphy the whole truth.  It would make his job as a police consultant a lot easier.  I guess that because he's already on parole from the High Council, he really doesn't want to rattle any more cages unless he has too.

I caught the episode with Claudia Black this last week, and I have to say I rather enjoyed it.  I may try and watch a few more.

Mr. Hamrick

I saw the first few weeks worth of episodes and liked what I saw.

The episodes are available for purchase on ITunes.

Another thing I like is how Dresden uses a drumstick as a wand and a hockey stick as a staff.  Very creative idea.

Now, see that's one of the changes that irritate me.

Change the Blue Beetle to a Jeep, fine, no problem - I can see the rationale.

Change Bob from a nebulous air spirit into a ghost. Again, I can see the rationale.

The Hockey Stick and drumstick instead of an actual staff and blasting rod irritates me. Theres no good reason for the change.

After a couple of months of keeping fans waiting, SciFi has finally announced that Dresden Files will NOT be back for season 2.  I for one am very bummed.  I thought that Dresden Files really came into it's own during the second half of the season.  (Paul Blackthorne will have a recurring role on the new show Big Shots next year.)

Ares_God_of_War

awwwww :( I am sad to hear this. I never read the books but I really enjoyed the series. Oh well I guess its a reason for me to pick up the books. Are the books still being written or has that ended?

bredon7777

Well that both sucks, and blows.  The Dresden Files was better than 95% of Sci-fi's current original programming (including both Snoregate:Atlantis and Soboringitspaininducing Jane).

Still, Scifi has a long history of cancelling shows I'd go out of my way to watch; in fact, I'm convinced the only reason Eureka survived was because I kept forgetting it was on, and a a result only watched about 1/4 of the first season.

Ares, the books are still being written- they're up to number 9 now, and I seem to recall Jim Butcher saying he had enough idea to take the series through number 15.

Ooooo!  I just read 7 and thought I had caught up.  This is good news!

"White Night" came out about a month ago - the books keep getting better and better:
He now has Molly Carpenter as an apprentice - it adds a new layer to his story that I find very positive
.

He is now saying he plans on roughly 20 books, culminating in an "apocolyptic trilogy".

Uncle Yuan

We'll have to see how that goes.  So far the only author, IMO, that's been able to carry a series that long is Lois McMaster Bujold.  Every other long-running series I've picked up has lost me after 5 or 6 books, if even that.

QuoteSnoregate:Atlantis

Blasphemy!  Thou shalt not insult the holy show.  Hallowed are the Ori.

Back on topic though, I was only able to see the first one and it had promise.  Don't know how the rest of the series turned out.

Glitch Girl

Oh man, I liked that show.  It was different from the books but I still liked it.

[sigh]So many of hte good ones go away so fast.

Xorn

Yeah this bummed me out a little... I thought this one has promise... guess not...
