Issue 10 surprise?

So each new issue lately supposedly comes with a surprise thats not even on the test release...

... any guesses as to what it could be?

Positiron has already shot down that it is not the Character Transfer/Renaming features that they have been working on... and hints that its something we've been asking for even before server transfers.

Guesses I've seen so far include...

- Flashback ... not likely
- Power customization ... keep dreaming!
- Supergroup limit raised ... I can see that
- jetpacks! ...supposedly the vanguard costume parts hint at this, so... hmmmm!

Lunarman

I so want supermobiles.

I can see it now, the shiny glory of the Moonmobile!
wouldn't mind a jet pack although they are in the game already. If it were jetpacks I'd be disappointed in the sense that they really don't have to do any work to add them.

Power customization sounds good though, surely that wouldn't be too hard to implement?

The reason we don't have it is because it would be incredibly hard to implement. Atleast that's what they've said multitudes of times.

If there's anything my degree taught me: NEVER assume ANYTHING "can't be that hard". Because you are almost always wrong.

As in this case.

A moonmobile, yes...

... but a mooncycle.  Now... that could be another story.  The whole flying emotes thing really opened a lot of possibilities for small, personal vehicles.

Someone had mentioned vehicles as the surprise, I looked it over.  I don't think its vehicles.  Or power customization.  Yes, it does sound good and stop calling me Shirley.  My bet goes to supergroup limits.  A nice small, workable feature that a lot of people have been asking for.

As for what the devs say.  Shrugs.  Sometimes I think they speak the truth... sometimes I think they talk out their rear.  I'm certainly spoiled by them.  I keep seeing great things from them in some ways, and at the same time... I see some things half assed.  Its frustrating as hell.  Heh.

I bet they're removing super powers from the game...

...that would be a surprise.

Supergroup improvements is my guess.

Lunarman

I think perhaps we have different ideas about power customization. All I meant was being able to change the name of your powers. So instead of 'hack' I can call it 'Lunar smite' or something. that would only involve a string swap and the names could be stored in a .txt file in you CoX folder.

But obviously doing custom anims/damage and all that would be way too big.

Vehicals, This is what I say they should be:

It's a power you get at lvl 40 and 50. At lvl 40 you can access the land vehicals mission which is a series of tasks that ends with you getting a Garage Token (or the like). You then take this to the garage in Steel Canyon and you can design your car/bike/tank. Cars are standard and are free first time round but you can get a bike or a tank buy paying extra. To redesign your transport costs just like the tailor. At lvl 50 you can get flying transport which is essentially the same, the types being helicopter, jet and hoverbike.

In terms of stats and effects. Cars are faster than superspeed but only just and it takes time to work your way to full speed. They are wide so it's hard to fit them off roads, but it is possible (For example, Perez park would be very hard to navigate and you could only drive around the edge). While your 'vehicle' power is active you have very low defense but high damage resistance. They are weak against electricity though, obviously mental attacks don't affect them. If you attack someone when you're in a vehicle then you get out and it disappears before you strike.

All vehicles can transport you to any zone (just like the base teleporters, you have to find a special parking permit in the zone before you can drive there instantly). You always arrive in a zone by an entrance portal on a road if there is one.

Flying transport is essentially the same but obviously easier to navigate. However you can die if you hit something traveling at high speed and they offer less damage resistance on the whole.

Gadgets: Gadgets are the real reason to use a vehicle rather than just use your transport power. Each vehicle has gadget slots which you fill with gadgets during the creation process. Some examples of gadgets:
I'm sure I don't need to explain what most of these do:

Turbo Booster: Gives you a few seconds of mega speed
Extra Armour Plating: Ups your damage res
Radar: Lets you see enemies on the radar
Plasma Shield: Makes you cause damage to things you hit for a few seconds
Gas Grenades: Fire poison gas (like the blaster power)
Flachettes: Fire shrapnel (just a normal short range attack)
Smoke Shield: Boost your and all nearby allies defense for a short while.
Rockets: Long range area heat damage
Parachute: If you have a flying vehicle then you can jump out in flight and float slowly to the ground. If you have a land vehicle then this helps reduce damage from jumps (as in driving off the edge of a skyway in Skyway City)
Extra Seat: let's you pick up other heroes in your mobile
Anti-Grav Thruster: Lifts your vehicle a short distance off the ground (basically jumping), with a flying vehicle it lets you rise faster.
Motor Assisted Steering: Increases turning speed and improves mobility
Mounted Machine Gun: A standard long range attack (like the turrets in bloody bay)
Lightbending device: Invisibility (like the normal power)

Car: Fast Speed, Medium Damage Res, 3 Gadget slots
Bike: Very Fast Speed, Low Damage Res, 3 Gadget slots
Tank: Medium Speed, High Damage Res, 4 Gadget slots
Copter: Fast Speed, Medium Damage Res, 3 Gadget slots
Jet: Very Fast Speed, low Damage Res, 2 Gadget slots
Hoverbike: Fast Speed, Medium Damage Res, 5 Gadget slots

I'm guessing while in a vehicle you have a different power bar with your gadgets on and a get out power.

What do you think?

I know they'll never implement it though, lol

captainspud

1) Power Customization = recolouring power effects and choosing from a variety of animations
2) Non-hovering vehicles are very hard to do and would require new code. Keeping parallel to the ground normal isn't something they have right now. New code always takes them forever to develop.

Do some digging in the forum, look for threads started by RTT with 12+ replies. This has all been discussed many times before.

Tortuga

Waiting til 40 to get a vehicle would kind of negate the need for vehicles since most will have had a travel power for 20+ levels already.

Most folks that want vehicles want them as their travel power.  Travel powers are often a concept choice, sometimes a uber-builder choice.

Personally, I think the travel in CoH is a little too frantic to warrant vehicles.  I may super leap from City Hall entrance the MAGI or SERAPH hq, but can you imagine someone on a motorbike ripping through City Hall?  Many of the spaces you travel in seem too small and crazy for vehicles.

Not that I'd complain if they were implemented.  I just don't feel the need for any of my toons (besides Dangerous Dave and his jetpack).

Although California Hustle on a flying surfboard would be pretty wicked.

Raptor

Also, the devs stated (way back when) that Superspeed was at the game's speed cap.  Nothing can travel faster than Superspeed because the game can't handle anything faster.

Reepicheep

I can imagine vehicles working in power customisations (ie, the idea that you could choose what style weapon you have, or what sort of gadget your flames fire out of, if any). It would be implemented to the travel powers - superspeed could choose your motorbikes, springs for super leaping, surfboard for flying, whatever. It wouldn't be any more or less a benefit.

I'm not expecting such a massive thing would be added in now, though.

ThePrelate

I'd be happy if they removed/expanded caps on SG membership.

vehciles would ROCK, but I doubt they will be implemented until if/when they create an expansion/issue that would create a zone where we HAD to be in one.. ie: some kind of toxic environment

Jay gave a hint about new costume sets a while back. These may turn out to be the Issue 10 "surprise". His hint was "Ex, St, Ro, Je, Bo, Va".

Last week there was a bug on the test servers that allowed anyone who transferred a character to another server to gain GM abilities. Along with gaining access to all NPC costume pieces all of the new costume sets were revealed.
Ex= Exo Proto
St= Stealth (boots not pictured)
Ro= Roman
Je= Jester
Bo= Boxing (Vet Reward)
Va= Vanguard
stealth and vanguard will probably be my next favorite looks on Prelate

since Jade is already telling me I look like a gay stormtrooper in my armored costumes :P

Like this?

BlueBard

The new costume sets aren't much of a surprise... at least some of them have been openly discussed and are present in Test, though I'm not sure about all of them.

I don't recall seeing the <*spoiler*> jester <*spoiler*> set, though... I definitely want to put a character into at least some of those pieces!

RTTingle

   New backpacks would be nice.  I'd be VERY disappointed if backpacks came... and they were only the NPC's backpacks.  Really... thats what the temp powers are for y'know?

RTT

MJB

From what I've read our current character models do not have a point to attach backpacks and they will be added with this issue. BUT it has been said that they will not be used in issue 10. So I guess issue 11 then?

For that matter I've heard that we aren't getting the "Je" set in issue 10 but I posted a picture of the complete set. Don't know what the hold up would be.
