Go, you noobs! killl teh Rikti!

I as usual,  cannot sign on to the test server. Sigh.

MJB

I heard about this earlier. Looks like issue 10 will be hitting us soon.

Would love to play it but I think I'll just wait for it to go live. No use waisting those precious, precious expees.

I'm few missions in and it's thooper fun.

By the by, FR and NRF global is on Test if we want to consolidate there too. ;)

Ephemeris

Everybody likes to open their presents early, don't they?

Neato stuff in the notes:

QuoteJack Frost pets and Animated Stone pets should be more willing to engage in melee combat due to a change to their AI values.

Bitter Ice Freeze Ray’s attack time has been shortened from 3.7 seconds to 2.5 seconds for both Blasters and Corruptors

Costume Piece Recipes have been moved into their own drop pool and the chance of getting one has been increased. Costume Piece Recipes will ONLY drop off of Minion-level entities. Lieutenants and higher have no chance of giving out a costume recipe.

Quick review of I10:

-The TF is kinda cool-- it's mostly these massive, massive maps full of Rikti to sweep. Bring AoEs and either a Sonic or FFer. There are three really neat twists to the TF in terms of opponents, and the last one is absolutely huge if you follow the backstory. The TF is five missions, I was on a really solid team and it took about 5 hours.
-The "storm the ship" raid is neat, but it kinda feels like a disorganized Hami raid. I dunno. It'll provide something to do if you're bored, but overall I found my brief run to be kinda meh.
-The redesigned Rikti kinda look like action figures, but whatever. You get used to them. The coloured armor at least lets you tell different units apart more easily.
-The zone attacks are fun, but the notices for them get very, VERY annoying. If they don't find another format for announcing those, they're going to have a riot on their hands.
-New costume bits rock

Notice to anybody on their first trip to the Rikti content: DO THE MISSIONS FOR THE CONTACT YOU'RE GIVEN. Before you do ANYTHING. Rikti drop special salvage, IF you've done her tutorial mission. I ran the TF without doing this, and apparently missed out on a ton of drops.

Overall, this is the smallest issue update I've seen, but it's high-quality content, and hey, it only took 2-3 months instead of 9. It gives some nice diversions for when you're bored and want to do something with your 50s.

A lot of people are reporting that the Rikti are slamming up on large teams standing around doing nothing and/or buffing  up for combat. Is this accruate? Is this just like a real honest to Zod war, where its kill or be killed, hug the wall soldier and keep your (finned) head down?

ThePrelate

I am very excited to see/read all of this!

HOpefully by the time I get my toon to 50 (sometime next year , at the rate I'm going!), you'll all still be interested in it ;)

Any person in a zone with the invasion going on will have mobs teleported to them. They don't just spawn out of specific areas like the Rularlu invasion, they actually spawn on the people in the zone. Get a full team together, and you'll get alot of playmates....

One of the devs had stated that they were practically done i10 when i9 was getting ready for release.  I think they should do that kinda thing more often...have the zone creation team working on something while the power set team (I can hope) gets new stuff ready while the other folks work on other stuff.  Less wait time between issues is great.

Yikes!  Sounds exciting.  Does stealth hide you from these mobs, or do they see right through it?

Nope, your best bet is to run, since the tp takes awhile, they zone in really slow, often by the time they zone, you're long gone.

Heh... and in a heavily populated zone, you'll probably run right into a mob that was zoning in for someone else, I bet. :D

Raptor

Preload is when they set the game up to automatically download the new content before it goes live.  That way when it does go live, all you have to download is a few updates.  Next time you play and log off, the downloader will automatically fire up and download the content for you.

captainspud

Longest I've ever seen between pre-load and live was about 20 days.

MJB

Ah! Thanks for the info Raptor.

Test went down for updates this afternoon. The only major bug I've heard of was one that made the fourth (?) mission of the zone TF impossible to complete. There are a few AI and graphical bugs I've encountered myself, but they were mostly minor.

I'd say that it'll go live sometime next week.
