Possible Stupid Question

This may be a stupid question, but is there any program out there that is similar to NifSkope that can be used with Microsoft Vista?

Symon

Not with all the capabilities of NifSkope. There are a few other programs that can manipulate Nifs to a much lesser degree (most have been written for Morrowind) but I wouldn't want to bet on them working either. NifSkope needs OpenGL to work and Microsoft decided to abandon proper OpenGL support.

It really looks like Vista is a lemon. Apparently Microsoft are making agreements with PC manufacturers for 'downgrades to XP for those not ready for Vista', so you might want to look into this.

The Beast of Redmond seems to have screwed up big time!

i use vista on my laptop and nifskope works perfectly fine

Symon

Really? There's a lot of talk on the NifTools forums of it not working at all because of bad OpenGl support in Vista. Several people have reported total failure.

There was hope that the Graphics card manufacturers might step into the breach and write decent OpenGL drivers. Maybe that's the case with your laptop? What Graphics chipset does it have?

Doesn't help the OP yet however.

hmm weird I'm using 9.6. there was some teething problems but its works. i checked i wasn't running it in xp mode and i'm not

Cyber Burn

Evil, do you mind if I ask what version of NifSkope and what version of vista (32 bit or 64 bit) that you are using?   thanks.

Cyber Burn

:banghead:, I'm a bone head sometimes. I must have blanked out when I read that you were using version 9.6.

I downloaded and installed it, and so far, it seems to be working alright.   I have Vista 64 bit.   Hope this will help someone else out too.   Thanks for the responses guys.
