Well Merriman has been done by Tommyboy. I am hoping to do the rest. They should be easy to hex. The only one I have started was the Blimp. Cause there ain't enough fat guys in the superhero biz.

The screwy thing is, on the cover of The Spider that Green Hornet posted, that's not what the character actually looked like! The company that put out the magazine thought that the character's real appearance was too ghastly, so they usually used a cover featuring him as a masked hero, when he actually has no mask, long (for the 30's-40's) hair and spider-like fangs.

Depends which "the spider" you mean.
If its the Archer connected to the Shade/7 soldiers of victory, I've meshes and skinned him as hes a major playable character in my E2:Elseworlds at War Mod*.*(as yet unfinished/unreleased)
If you mean some other "the spider", dunno.

thanks to Irrational games allowing kitbashing,  i've cobbled together this skin/mesh. hopefully it's a good placeholder until someone with talent comes around.  i gave him fangs and a mask.  cause well, i like masks.

Nope. Not Alias the Spider, but a pulp character that predates it.

To me, the premise of the Spider has always sounded weak, even for a forties character. He pulls out a pair of fake fangs and sticks them in his mouth and throws on a cape, and that makes crooks scared of him. Puhlease. The masked version usually used on the cover actually looks scarrier than the no-masked fanged version in the stories.

The masked version usually used on the cover actually looks scarrier than the no-masked fanged version in the stories.

In the stories, the Spider didn't wear the facial makeup, fangs, and a fake hunchback (!) just to frighten criminals--he also wore them permit his allies to easily substitute for him when necessary, and to distract the police from his true identity (they were after him because he killed criminals right and left....I think that's what made crooks so afraid of him.)

As you said, the publishers never used the gruesome hunchback look on the pulp's cover paintings and instead went with a much more conventional masked Spider insted.

On paper the Spider doesn't sound all that interesting, and indeed at the start he's just another Shadow ripoff. But if you read the Spider stories written by Norvell Page they're some of the best of the hero pulps. The Spider's adventures are more action-packed, epic and superheroic than any of the Shadow or Doc Savage stories. And they're slightly better written, too, with a touch more character developement. For example, the Spider's true identity is a millionaire playboy who is close friends with the police comissioner, who is sworn to bring in the Spider. Nothing new there--except that here the comissioner is 95% certain his millionaire friend is really the Spider, he just can't prove it. So there's a tension in their scenes not present in, say, Bruce Wayne's conversations with Comissioner Gordon.

I'm reading a cool collection of Spider stories right now called Robot Titans of Gotham. The first story, from 1939, has the Spider fighting a horde of giant robots rampaging through Manhattan. The scene that stood out as a FF fan is the one where a giant robot picks up a traffic light and starts swinging away while the Spider's bullets bounce uselessly off its metal hide...  The second story deals with the Spider's confrontation with the Bat Man, a mysterious figure who dresses like a bat (and this is from 1935, four years before the first Bruce Wayne story), has artificial wings on his back that allow him to glide ... and who also raises thousands of ravenous vampire bats with poisoned fangs that he uses to kill hundreds of people. And that's just for practice, mind you.

HumanTon, if you click on the link in my initial post, you can find some pics of covers to The Spider where they actually did use the version that appeared in the story on the covers. However, they only used the in-story version on the covers a handful of times.

I completely forgot about the fake hunchback part of his schtick, but that's understandable since I've only read about 2 Spider stories, and that was a few years ago.

As long as we're bringing up a few obscure heroes, I'd like to toss out a request for a skin of....The Avenger:

http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/a/avenger2.htm
http://www.capitalcomics.com/covers/01519.jpg

Not sure what mesh he'd go on, but it would likely require a hex, as he HAS to have the gun and knife (referred to as "Mike & Ike").

I second the nomination for a proper Avenger hex/skin. I've wanted a Shadow/Doc Savage/Avenger/G-8 squad forever. (I'm not sure how to manage G-8, what with the biplane and all...)

The avenger could be done on a val_helsing or Taskmaster hex, easily

and Renegade made a toy bi-plane nif,   it could be hexed into a larger size maybe.

Hey there everyone,
I too always liked the Avenger and Justice Ink. So I started a skin even though work wore me out today. If there is noone else going to tackle him. I'll do Avenger. What suggestions for a mesh or hex do you have. I just put it on a tom_versatile stripped down to basic. I generally use Tommyboy's stuff for my hexes. But am open to ideas or help. Well anyway here's a peak at the beginnings of the Avenger skin.

Looks cool! Is that C6's costume base?

As for a mesh, a cordless Taskmaster hex (so he can do the rope swing thing) with the hair from another mesh hexed on might work. Just ditch all the weapons except the gun and replace the sword with a dagger.

What Human Ton forgot to mention is that the reason crooks were scared of The Spider wasn't the fangs or the firght wig or the cloak and hat and hunchback, but it was the fact that he was so efficient at killing them by the droves. He was also totally ruthless: once when he needed a human head (someone had offered reward for The Spider's head, and he was using his), he went out and found a criminal and relieved the felon of his (figuring that the crook wasn't putting it to good use anyway). He made The Execution or The Puunisher look like sissies.
The stories often started in the middle going at full speed, AND THEN THINGS GOT MORE HECTIC! People were murdered by the score, men and women disfigured and mutilated by Evil Death Devices or torture from the Diabolical Mastermind. The Spider is ALWAYS outnumberd, always outgunned, but never outclassed. He seems a little paranoid sometimes (okay, a lot of the time), but, my god, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE OUT TO GET HIM! But usually only once.

He also wasn't that obscure a character, once upon a time.

They aren't for everyone (got a strong stomach?) but I like 'em.

I've done a Spider skin for Gni's Question mesh. There's nobody with the floppy hat and the stringy hair (you could live without the hunchback), but I like the one above. The only thing I would change is make the fangs stick out from the bottom lips.

I'd love to see meshes for The Avenger, The Moon Man (who is described more like a cross between the original Crimson Avenger and Mysterio than he is shown in the books), all Doc's men (I've been trying to turn a male heavy into a male short legs ape arms) and Doc himself (I had a Bama-based Doc skin for male muscular tall, but I haven't been able to find it). I'd like to see a black bat mesh where the fins on his gauntlets work into his cape, like they did originally (Came close on a male alpha mesh). And do you have any idea how many villains a Fu Manchu mesh would sub for? Besides Fu there's Dr. Yen Sin, Wu Fang, Shiwan Khan, Hanoi Shan... the list goes on. And I've never seen a picture of The Octopus, but he's supposed to have some kind of tank or exoskeleton with tentacles...

The thing is, all the heroes (except Doc)need guns. This limits you to what existing mesh you can put them on.

Meanwhile, I'll try and turn Iron Fist into Dr. Evil, and see if I can turn Blackhawk into Captain Action...

I'm not as familiar with the Spider as I'd like to be. I've read only 2 or 3 stories, and that was a few years ago. None of them are accessible online unless you pay for them, which is a darn shame. You can't find the Shadow or Doc Savage stories online for free, either, but I used to be able to before Conde Nast clamped down on the sites that were posting the old stories for free in .pdf format a couple of years ago. And unfortunately, I found them right around the time the clamp down happened......

*edit* And yes, I know about that company that's released some of the Spider pulp stories in novel formats.

I did mention it, really I did (tho' not very clearly....)

The Punisher is actually a direct descendent of the pulps. The Punisher was ripped off inspired by The Executioner paperback novels by Don Pendleton, and Pendelton was consciously resurrecting the shoot-first vigilante from the pulps (tho' more Race Williams than the costumed crew.)

That's what I love about the Spider stories. They make other pulps look positively tame by comparison.

I'd love to see meshes for ... Doc himself.

Afghan Ant did a PV_Doc_Brass hex for Axel Brass from Planetary. Doc Brass is Doc Savage for all intents and purposes, so that's what I use (with the holster hexed off, naturally)

Here's a first take on Major Victory. I've tried to make the suit wrinkly, but it just comes out looking funny. I'm not happy with the collar, either; the stars show up on both sides, and the ones near the points are distorted. I wonder about using a Captain Marvel Mesh instead? May have to try that.  I am also wondering if that suit is suppose to be gold instead of yellow. That would make a lot of difference in the way it's handled.

And detourne, what's that crazy hex? OConner with a cape? I need that. Need.

I'm not sure that's Mysta on the cover of Planet Comics, since that's not the outfit she wears inside, but I know full well that that makes no difference whatsover. I think that may be the 1940s-50s version of Conan's Miraj cover girl from the 1970s. She gets in a lot of troube on those covers. However, I have a Superwoman skin for a vxfemale mesh that won't take more than a few minutes to turn into that outfit (need to see if they have hexable collars...).

Might be Jack Kirby art on The Black Owl... he did some work on the strip. The backgrounds don't look like it though, an the knees aren't knobby enough. Hmm.

And who is that guy in the yellow? Is that Rocketman? I could skin that in a minute, considering I've been saving the bases I colour now, so I've already got a yellow and a red. None of the pictures I've ever seen show a holster or sheath either. I'd say leave them off, but if you do leave them on, I'd suggest you color them either a very dark brown or black, so they look like leather.

That's because they were strapped to his legs under his pants. They were named Mike and Ike, and i can't remember which is which. The knife was something like a Magnum throwing knife I once saw (no crosspiece-hollow handle), and the gun was curved to fit his calf. There was no trigger-guard, and the cylinder was probably no bigger than the gun itself (held four .22 rounds). Since these things don't really exist, I'd go with making the sheath/holster show. However, if you can play with the animations and have him reach down to his ankle to draw his weapons...

If you do give him a holster and sheath, I have to dissagree with Ghostmachine's perfectly logical suggestion as to color. The Avenger was all about gray, like Doc savage was all about bronze, and The Shadow was all about sneaking around in black. Ike and Mike were blued and stainless steel, however, since they were artifacts from Benson's life before he became The Avenger.

Let me retract part of that-black would probably do fine.

If I can figure out how to get the cock-comb thing off one of the bad guys in the new Pulp Fiction mod and on a Taskmaster mesh, I may be able to do Blue Bolt. We have male alpha and male alpha collar, it's too bad we don't have male alpha fin or a version of male alpha with a fin that can be changed. I have wanted to do Blue Bolt, but haven't because of the fin issue.

Also: there is a Fu Manchu look-alike (and a LOT of monions) in the new Pulp Fiction mod.

I have seen reference to a Male Twirling mesh or somesuch. Anyone know if itreally exists, or will th Human Top attribute stand in for that. Neet to try that out.

IIRC, the keyframes from the Whirlwind69 mesh will work with most Male Basic meshes:

You can actually read some old Golden Era comics featuring lesser known characters, including several that have been posted in this thread (Twister is in #39, for instance) here:

http://home.comcast.net/~pfeonline/

Personally, I'd like to toss out a request for Man O' Metal, who is in issue #4 on that site, and is also in a story here:

I've got two American Crusader skins. One is by ToxicJ, the other was by Copper Age. I think the Toxic J skin is at Alex's Freedom Fortress, and the Copper Age skin is on on e of the Copper Wire Yahoo groups. Nice thing about Copper Age, he gave you an idea of what some of these characters would do so you have a little something to base your Hero file on.

I downloaded a Green Turtle story from a comic book newsgroup a year ago. Something that goofy I just HAD to read. I actually think that it was no worse (but certaintly no better) than most of the other comics from the time.

Let me know if there's something in particular you need.  My Max is screwed up and doesn't want to export keyframes very well today, but I may be able to help some.  FYI, while Yellow Dragon is obviously based on Fu Manchu as far as character goes, he's actually done on the Ramulus/Nightshade mesh (the golden age Sandman foe).

Working on The Owl for Male Alpha

I've also created a Yahoo group called "Character Obscura" to post my contributions on anyway. I've been real busy the past week, or I'd have posted El and Hy from The Fab Four (they were closest to being finished when they were requested), along with Major Victory and my version of The Greatest American Hero, Commander USA, Captain Nice, and Mr. Teriffic (maybe some others with Benton Grey's permission). I was waiting for it to have a little content before i announced it. I hope that the others that have done obscure heroes and villains will put their work there.

I started on The Falcon for Black Bolt No Fork, too.

Now, if I can jsut get finished with some of the others...

I also hope that the other heroes and villains from this thread will show up.

"SUPERPOWERS"  The return of some obscure heroes and villains  :rickbm

"The project, described by Dynamite Publisher Nick Barrucci as "being in development for the last three years," is scheduled for release at the end of 2007 and marks the return of a host of classic Golden Age heroes and villains, all under the creative and artistic direction of Ross and writer Jim Krueger. Many of the featured characters have not been seen in many years, lost to time and obscurity. They have all have been drawn, designed and/or re-imagined by Alex Ross, including Fighting Yank, Green Lama, The Death Defying 'Devil, the Black Terror, Masquerade, The Flame, Mister Face, Samson, The Scarab, The Owl, the Claw, Pyroman, the Arrow, the American Spirit, the Crusaders, the F-Troop and more."

The costume he wore immediately after encountering Black Talon and regaining his personality (based on the classic red and green but with yellow added to the mix). I've always liked that costume. It was iconic and definitely golden-age inspired. Too bad he wore it for a few Avengers issues and then went into the horrible Frank Buck, bring 'em back alive, safari outfit.

Looking through some of The Phantom Stranger's stuff in his Yahoo Groups; there are a lot of obscure characters there. I know I've looked through them before, but there seems to be a lot I missed.

It's well worth checking out.

I'm working on Spyman, Bee-Man, Magicmaster, The Glowing Gladiator, Miracles Inc., Earthman, and I've thought about doing The Man in Black Called Fate. I need either left handed keyframes for Spyman, or a better mesh with left-handed keyframes. The visor could be smaller, and he needs a holster and pistol. I can't find a cap visor on either Tom Versatile or Taskmaster. I have a copy of a Steranko drawing where it looks like his uniform was SUPPOSED to be red, white, and blue...

Someone else has done Jack Quick Frost-two versions of him. I have switched the one for Male Guns over to the Phantom DX mesh, and played with the reflections file to make him look frosty (I wish it had a bouple of particle emmiters, so as to make it snow around him). I think the other one goes on the Heatwave mesh, and I've never seen it. There is also a Priannah skin out there.

Tigerboy would probably need a mesh for his human-faced tiger form, but since he is a shapeshifter...

Bee-Man needs bee wings, and I sure wish there was a giant bee mesh.

I've also been thinking about Strongman since I downloaded a comic with him in it. Along with Major (Captain Future) Mercury, The Mask (AKA The Black Bat), The Masked Avenger (Justice Inc.'s Avenger), and The Raven (AKA Moon Man), Codename: Werewolf (easiest skin I ever did), the male Black Fury, the Golden Age Banshee...

The Jack Quick Frost and Pirhana are very early skins by me, which I have since removed.  The male_belt version was intended for Phantom DX mesh, though I may have included guns for the male_belt_guns mesh, I can't recall.  The male_basic version is for a hex of Texas Jack's Male_shoulderholsters (no pants, one gun/holster).

I can't seem to remember the actual name of this old comic book hero i once read.

I'm not sure if it's Captain Atom or Captain (Something...). He had a green and white costume. I think his mask, gloves, boots and shorts were green and the rest of his body was a white spandex costume. Not sure, but i think he had a gun for a weapon too. ......

Just thought maybe you obscure hero fans would have some idea who this hero was.... :P

the old Captain Marvel from the 60's had a green and white uniform  :rickbm
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h295/espressogirl57/bdcapmarv60st1.jpg)
Captain Mar-Vell of the Kree Imperial Militia (created in 1967 by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in Marvel Super-Heroes #12) was sent to observe the planet Earth, which was of great interest to the Empire for its resources and strategic potential, due to its location midpoint between the Kree and Skrull Empires. Mar-Vell eventually wearied of his superiors' malign intent and allied himself with Earth as the Kree Empire branded him a traitor. From then on, Mar-Vell fought to protect Earth from all threats Captain Mar-Vell!

here are some very obscure heroes: Captain Everything, Nukla, Bananaman :rickbm
(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h295/espressogirl57/capevery.jpg)(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h295/espressogirl57/nukla.jpg)(http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h295/espressogirl57/cbb1_1.jpg)
Captain Everything: who gains whatever powers are required

Nukla: has nuclear based powers, similar to those of Captain Atom. He can fire destructive beams from his hands, and phase his body into an immaterial state. He can use also quickly heal himself of injuries, though this tends to deplete his energy and leave him vulnerable to attack.

Bananaman: Eric was rocketed to Earth from the moon as a baby, and gained his powers because the crescent moon resembles a banana. He has a kryptonite-style weakness to mouldy bananas, and at one point even a Fortress of Solitude-style building at the North Pole, made out of a giant banana
If Bananaman needs extra power, bananas can be eaten for strength boosts, provided by his faithful pet crow; if he does not have enough strength to shatter an ice block, for example, after eating a banana, he will have enough. If he eats lots of bananas in one sitting, he quickly becomes obese in his transformation; if he eats bananas that are not full, he transforms with extra weight in the lower part of his body.

Ultiman received his powers after surviving a Project Gemini spacecraft incident. The cosmic radiation gave him "ultrapowers" (rather than superpowers), and so Ultiman set out to do good in the world.
Ultiman has flight, ultrastrength, ultraspeed and laser-vision

Falcon:  First Appearance: Human Torch Comics #2 (Timely Comics, Fall 1940)
Powers/Abilities: Good fighter. He is usually armed with a .45 automatic

Swift Arrow: Spark Publications
was one of the earliest archers on the comics scene, certainly an early inspiration for characters such as Marvel's Hawkeye and DC's Green Arrow.

History: "In a small Midwestern town stands a singularly nondescript old house.
The town is remarkable for it's quiet - in fact, for its lack of any sign of
human habitation. Perhaps it is the occasional explosion heard in the vicinity,
or maybe its the nose cone protruding from the roof... In any case its been a
long time since anyone has ventured to ring the doorbell under the
sign...Miracles, Inc."
(Unearthly Spectaculars #2, Miracles Inc.) When an intruder manages to easily
circumvent their high-tech defense systems and penetrate their base, the members
of Miracles, Inc, try to take him down. However he swiftly defeats each of them
individually, before confronting the team's leader, The Professor, to explain he
has come to join. However he makes the mistake of referring to himself as the
"most powerful" person there, which incites the Professor to kick his butt
(literally). The Wizard is allowed to join, but he will have to earn his place
on the team, starting with doing menial jobs round their base.

Redblazer: Scientist Dr.Morgan develops "Astro-Pyro Rays", which he uses to grant superhuman powers to a cowboy named Ted. Using his new abilities, Ted becomes the superhero Red Blazer. Shortly after this, he gains a sidekick Sparky, who eventually gains similar powers.

Maniac 5: When flesh eating aliens invade the Earth, war veteran Frank Bullock has his consciousness transferred into a robot war suit to fight them. After the war finished, he discovered that his life had no purpose any more. His wife had remarried, and the military began to see him as a nuisance. Deciding to remove him once and for all, they unleashed the supposedly unstoppable Maniac 6 on him. Frank stood no chance...until he managed to transfer his mind into it, and used it's own teleportation powers to send it to the centre of the Earth.

Sonambulo: After achieving much fame as a wrestler, he was approached by a local mob with the intent of extorting money from him and other special services. Around the same time, he was suffering from a strange sleeping disorder. After refusing the gangsters demands, he was brutally beaten, shot, and left for dead. Instead of dying, he fell into a form of deep hibernation only to awake decades later having the power to see other people's dreams and the uncanny ability to go without sleep. Using his new-found powers, Sonámbulo became a private detective against the supernatural underworld of the night.

I have been checking out Phantom Stranger's stuff, although I'm struggling with trying to figure out what meshes to use and/or where to get them.  For example, I'm not seeing anything that tells me what mesh Wildfire (Quality) goes on.  Is she just for female longhair or one of the other meshes that uses female_longhair.tga files.

I've also picked up a Green Lama somewhere along the way and can't figure out where I got it or what mesh it was for.  Thought I'd mention it here as the readers of this thread are the most likely to know.   ^_^

Did the Raven (THUNDER Agents) ever get finished/released?  I'm looking for him, Undersea Agent, and Vulcan to complete my lineup.

Great thread by the way.  Character Obscura has joined Vigilante and Copper Wire as my favorite sites.

Thank you; those are two of my favorite skinners, too. Have you tried The Phantom Stranger's Yahoo Group?

I have a half-done version of Raven that I quit when I decided that I didn't like the mesh it was on. So far as I know, no one else has ever done that much (I hope I'm wrong and somebody corrects me; I've been a TA fan for 40 years). UNDERSEA Agent might not be all that hard to do... Maybe I can squeeze him in between Miracles Inc. and The Galaxy Trio...

I believe that Wildfire just goes on regular Female Longhair, and The Green Lama goes on Male Basic Cape Pointed Hood by The Beyonder. Wildfire really needs some flaming effects, though.

Holy cow!   Does that ever take me back!  The Southern Knights!  I collected them as well.  Here's a link:  http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/s/sothnite.htm (http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/s/sothnite.htm)

They were always a lot of fun!  Connie and Dragon especially were very unitque characters imho.  Connie was an olympic level fencer as I recall whose psychic sword do any physical harm to an opponent but would just pass through them/incapacitate them with a great deal of pain.  *heh-heh*  Dragon was an actual dragon who (being a dragon) was very long lived and could shapechange into a human form.  I always liked Kristin as well in that she was a spunky-sprite girl who was also superstrong.  As I recall she would always wear a Clemson t-shirt would get enraged if it were damaged in combat.  Great stuff!

Sure, it wouldn't suck to see them in  :ffvstr:...

I can't scope worth a darn, or I'd try it. If someone will supply a mesh, I'll skin it. Most of it except for the exo-skeleton would be standard stuff on a Tom versatile mesh.

Specifically, he is Mr. Might, the Superman analog member of the Freedom Brigade, father of Awkwardman. And I think the artist is Joe Orlando, but it could well be Sekowsky as well.
Title: Re: Obscure Heroes
Post by: daglob on April 13, 2008, 10:19:37 AM
Sekowski inked it. Maybe more than inked, perhaps doing finishes over Orlando's layouts. I'm not sure how widespread that procedure was then, but, then again, Sekowski's stype is so overwhelming that he would probably drown anyone but another artist with as powerful a style, like maybe Neal Adams, Gil Kane, or Jack Kirby. I always thought Sekowski did all the art, but some time or another I saw reference to his just inking Showcase 62. I double checked Don Markstein's Toonapedia (surely everyone here knows it's at http://www.toonopedia.com/), and got the issue number as well.

Looking at him, Mr. Might actually looks like a cross between Superman and Captain Marvel...

Spring Heeled Jack did Dynamic Man (Timely version) at least according the the read me in my copy.

But I came here to try to show you this: Golden Age ManOWar!

(http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/999/manowarpa7.th.jpg) (http://img397.imageshack.us/my.php?image=manowarpa7.jpg)

The character tool doesn't show it, but the sword is more flaming than wearing shorts and boots.

He's a Taskmaster base, Tom's Amazing Man boots, the flaming sword from male_sword_fx but I'm not sure who that's by, and the fin from Crimson Avenger, though it was remapped to avoid conflicts with the piping on the gloves (which isn't great but best I could get it on the Taskmaster mapping).

Skin is mine from a C6 base except for the eagle which was a google image grab, recolored yellow.

In other words, yes, it's a colossal kitbash and I didn't do much more than put the puzzle together.  But I think he came out nice.  Only problem is that I so far haven't been able to get him to convert to FFvTTR for those of you who only play it.  I have sent the FF1 version to Da Glob.  He is welcome to put it up at one of the CO groups if he likes, or I can put it up at my yahoo group either this weekend or next -- I'm out of town part of this weekend so it may be next.  I will continue to try to figure out what it would need to be converted but that will definitely not be this week.

Well I changed my plans and reskoped him for  :ffvstr: tonight after all.  Both versions are at the riddlemethismeshes1 yahoo group along with Black Orchid that I threw up there but am not sure if I told anyone.

Coming soon on the (relatively) obscure side: Fiery Icer (Charlton), Iron Arms (Charlton), Undersea Agent (Tower), Raven (Tower, based more on the 80's version so I think different enough from Da Glob's excellent one), the entire Royal Flush Gang (DC), Andor (Tower), Vibraman (Tower), Whirligig (Tower), Red Dragon (Tower), and possibly others.  They're all done, I just have to decide whether to release them now or with the mod they go with (the mod is not done but should be in just a few weeks, but may be too big to have hosted).

Da Glob, if you like, I can start a different thread.  Don't want to hijack, I just figure the Few Fans of Obscurity are well assembled here, and I like rewarding them in the less public manner.   ^_^

There are a bunch of different skins for the original Destroyer, one by Liquid Viper (Male Basic), one by Flash 22798 (hexed Captain America by Grenedier), and two by Copper Age for Male Basic Gloves Lowboots. I believe that I have another, but I can't find it. I also have a version of that second Destroyer that goes on Male Alpha Collar, and it may be from Kenn X's Freedom Flat.

I have a skin for The Defender by Flash 22789 that goes on the same hex as his Destroyer (or maybe that's just the one I put it on), and one for Male Basic by The Vigilante.

Sparkman is on my "to do" list, but not in that costume. Have to save this one and maybe do a two-fer.

Pretty sure S.A.M. did the second Destroyer outfit, because I requested that one a long time ago and have it on a cd I burned that's lying around here somewhere.

Yes to those Impossibles, but no, the Meteor Man I was talking about was from an early 90's movie starring Robert Townsend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Meteor_Man_%28film%29

But has anyone actually done the Wraith?  It was unclear to me.  Or maybe I just didn't read closely enough.  If someone is doing him...that ROCKS!  The Wraith is a cool, obscure indie character that deserves the attention imho.

It appears the 150 level mod, Crisis on Finite Earths, will not be publicly released.  It is already 4.82 gb with 20 levels to go and 26 Golden Age characters to be added.  It will probably compress some but not enough to make a hosting request reasonable.  It also has 600 characters and I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to track down all the various people to get permissions and credits and so on.  Like the 100 level Marvel Wars that wrapped up last spring, it will have to be disc-distributed at my cost, so that means E2 only.

I will make the above mentioned characters available through e-mail or maybe yahoo if someone really wants them.  Just send me a PM, or DaGlob has them as well if he doesn't mind trying to post them somewhere.  Mine are FF1 only; he has the FFvTTR only versions as several did not convert but I re-did them for him.  Unless they're still in my sent items box, I didn't keep those versions which is why I'm siccing people on him.   :P

Please note I'm moving in about 3 weeks so bear with me if I'm not super-responsive.  I will probably only check here every week or two at best, but I will be changing IP providers/e-mail addresses so PM will be the safest way to eventually reach me.  I'm also trying to finish the final 20 levels for the mod which is my FF time priority.  What I have left to code shouldn't be hard but will be easy to screw up as it includes random generators for Marvel Team Up, Marvel Two in One, The Brave and the Bold, etc.

That Master Man seems to be a Nazi version of Captain America. Doing a search of the characters directory it doesn't look like THAT many skins by Copper from that mod, but there is one skin missing from the list that I know is by him, so I guess I need to look a little more. I'll try and upload everything I have as soon as I can.

Well those huge mods sound totally cool, but I totally understnad it being nearly impossible to distribute them conventionally.

Any chance of putting them in a torrent, perhaps? Thats a good way to move huge files like that around.

Well those huge mods sound totally cool, but I totally understnad it being nearly impossible to distribute them conventionally.

Any chance of putting them in a torrent, perhaps? Thats a good way to move huge files like that around.

Catwhowalksbyhimself claims he can host one or both despite their size, so as soon as I get settled (just moved), I'm going to see about mailing him a disc with the first one, the 100 level Marvel Wars.  If he or some volunteers can get the permission issues cleaned up and/or otherwise keep me from being lynched for not knowing/remembering where every possible skin/skope/hex/mesh came from, it will go public.  The 150 level Crisis on Finite Earths would then go public in a few months, probably between Christmas and New Year's Eve after the bugs are worked out by the beta group (i.e., Earth2 Productions, who get their copies by mail).

FYI, FF1 versions of Fiery Icer (Charlton), Iron Arms (Charlton), Undersea Agent (Tower), Raven (Tower, based more on the 80's version), Vibraman (Tower), Whirligig (Tower), and Red Dragon (Tower) have been posted to my yahoo group.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/riddlemethismeshes1/

Da Glob may have ffvttr versions if needed.  I remember they didn't convert directly, but IIRC, I managed to re-do them and e-mail them to him before I moved.  Not sure I can access them otherwise as that e-mail account was disabled when I moved.

Venture was a superhero who featured in his own short-lived (four issues, sheesh!) series from Image, before appearing as an occasional guest in Jay Faerber's Noble causes. I always thought he was pretty cool and deserved greater success. Image below - he's the guy with the cape.

Did anyone ever skin any of the characters from Marvel: The Lost Generation?

Details can be found here; http://www.lostgenerationhandbook.com/ (http://www.lostgenerationhandbook.com/), and http://www.geocities.com/ratmmjess/lost.html (http://www.geocities.com/ratmmjess/lost.html)

I'd love to see skins of characters like The Black Fox, the Yankee Clipper and Kid Justice, Mr. Justice, Knight Templar and Squire, Walkabout, OxbowFirefall, Flatiron, Reflex, Liberty Girl, Nightingale and the rest.

Celebrand, their leader, who had no super-powers, but had a brilliant tactical mind and expertise with a ray gun,
Ornitho, who could turn himself into avian forms of all sorts and could fly
     Elvo, a nimble master swordsman,
Dartalg, a crack shot with a blowgun who carried specially-treated darts for all occasions
Immorto, who could never be killed due to his body's ability to heal itself almost instantly,
Psyche, the Mistress of Emotions, and
Quantum Queen, who could turn herself into any form of quantum radiation.   :rickbm

hmmm.....that Reflecto (assuming it's the character in the yellow & orange) looks *exactly* like the character of the same name from a LSH arc from the 80's.

....and this Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflecto) entry explains why.  Interesting that Nightcrawler was almost a DC character.

Really? It's like the first paragraph of PG's link. That's all you really need to know.

Quote from: PG's linkIn the early 1970s, Dave Cockrum planned a Legion spin-off series called the Outsiders, which would have, among other characters, included Nightcrawler (who was later introduced in the Marvel Comics team the X-Men) and Reflecto, in his first appearance as a living character. This series was not produced, however.

Ahhh... Vigilante - one of the original masters of obscurity.

Vigilante did Puppeteer, too.

By the way, some of Vigilante's links are not broken, they are misspelled. I did get his Nemesis for Male Hood Nocape-but I had to "open in new tab" and play with the URL (and I don't remember what I did to it-eliminate the '1', maybe?). I don't know why I tried it, but there was at least one other link that was mispelled-and one that was for the wrong character. I meant to write it down, but I was in a hurry.

12/06/08: Edited this. I was dead tired when I wrote it.

I remember what made me try changing the URL: the name of the URL was different than the name of the picture: Nemesis verses Nemesis1.

Thanks for the helpful tip, Dag. I noticed that the Timely Miss America link has a dash that needs to be changed to a period. I'll play around with the others.

Correction. It's missing the last period.

You know, I don't think anyone has ever done Biro's Crimebuster from Boy Comics. With such a long run, he wasn't really that obscure, either.

Zebra is at (I think) CO1. Red Blazer may have already been done by Copper Age, but not in that costume.

Speaking of Comics Interview characters, how about the Southern Knights? I don't think they've ever been done. They are Electrode, Dragon (a dragon who posed as a man), Connie (with her psychic sword) and Kristin (a sort of cheerleader Supergirl).

Hey, I just thought of an obscure Super team that I don't think has been done.  And I can't believe I haven't thought of the them till now:  Bill Willingham's Elementals!:  http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2007/02/05/comics-you-should-own-elementals-1-5/ (http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2007/02/05/comics-you-should-own-elementals-1-5/) and http://www.comicvine.com/elementals/49-3420/ (http://www.comicvine.com/elementals/49-3420/)

Back in the day, I collected the Elementals. The Elementals were one of the more interesting indie comics that came out the 80s.  They were always pretty edgy pushing the limit of profanity, violence, and sexual content.  But the writing was always good and the back story was great.  Interestingly some of the foes for the Elementals, the Destroyers came from an adventure for the pen and paper super hero RPG Villains and Vigilantes that Bill Willingham wrote (the adventure not the game...called Death Duel with the Destroyers).  I used to play and V&V which led to my collecting the Elementals...which I think Guardian already skinned.

Thoughts?  Sneering remarks?

Most if not all of these have been done. I believe they were done by Shrike. I know I have them, but it would take me forever to find them.

The are on my list, but if someone else has done them...

... what value of "forever" are we talking about?

Well.....considering all my skins and meshes from FF are on multiple discs and each disc having hundreds of meshes with multiple skins to each....... It would definitely have to wait until the new year some time....
