Title: VOTE!
Post by: BentonGrey on November 03, 2008, 08:38:51 PM
Howdy guys!  All of you who are Americans and of voting age, make sure you get out to the polls tomorrow.  Whatever your political leanings may be, I'm sure we can all agree that this is an important election, so let's do our civic!

(I assume that this doesn't cross any lines, as I am definitely not advocating any particular political stand, merely urging people to vote.)

How dare you urge me to do my civic duty?  You know as an American I have the right to sit at home and play computer games and ignor all this voting nonsense...  :D :D :D :D :D

Just kidding.  I sent my absentee in.  It was my first time voting since being overseas.  It's really a painless process...albeit expensive.  But who knows...maybe my vote will be the deciding vote in this years election and the whole country could be waiting breathlessly for the day my ballot arrives and is finally opened and counted.  The hushed crowd will listen carefully as the announcement is made "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.  BOYS AND GIRLS.  CHILDREN OF ALL AGES 1 TO 100, 2 TO 92.  THE WINNER OF THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS....."

You'll all know soon enough.  I'm gonna go listen to some Sam Cooke.

No thanks! Writing in Colbert isn't worth my time. And my time is essentially worthless.

I will most certainly be voting, and I will also be the elections update center for my workplace, as I'm the only one allowed to have access to a radio.

I'm getting up real early on Wednesday to hear the result! (blasted, living across the sea).

This election could change the fate of the world: war-ridden fuel crysis or peaceful, green-energy

Stand up ye citizens, and Vote!

Among a myriad of other issues. Heh.

This is my first election, and it's been interesting thus far...I only hope the numbers run smoothly and we don't have problems with machines or fraud or hanging chads or what-have-you. Whoever wins, I'd appreciate it if it was clear cut. I think the whole nation would.

Don't you worry your politic brain, Benton.  If that non-registered voter, Lunarman, comes anywhere close to the voting line, BWPS will drive him off with a stick.

You were told that you could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven, you told Bill that if Sandra is going to listen to her headphones while she's filing then you should be able to listen to the radio while you're collating so you don't see why you should have to turn down the radio because you enjoy listening at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven.

Same here, Ren.  Filling in a few ovals with a magic marker never felt so significant.  I suddenly felt, with a lump in my throat, that I did not want to submit my ballot--that I wanted to save it and frame it--but, of course, I knew that failing to submit it would defeat the purpose of voting.  And then, after I inserted my ballot into the tallying machine, I felt something I haven't felt in quite a long while...
Hope (As foolish as that might sound, 'tis true.).
I just want it all to be over and done with so we can all move on.
My brain has been tug of waring over optimism and paranoia for months...

And these things get longer and longer the older I get. I'm officially in political Burnout mode.

I do regret that it is necessary to maintain neutrality on these boards, because I am very interested in this kind of response.  I will say this, I am proud that our country has come far enough to see what we have seen this election, whatever my feelings about the candidates themselves may be.

How dare you insult the terror of reality that is Cthulhu...

Maybe he could take CObra commander as a Running Mate to try and land the Joe Terrorist vote....

Joe Terrorist...cobra commander... totally unplanned....

for what its worth, I voted.  And I have never been sorrier that there was no "None of the Above" selections on the ballot.

I would've loved to seen Richard Pryor post-humorously elected President.  (See "Brewster's Millions")

Frankly I'm expecting at least a week or more of "Fraud!", "Recount!" and other such hand wringing unless its a clear one sided victory... which I don't think its gonna be. I think its going to be closer than people expect.

Unless of course I'm wrong...  ^_^

It's revealing how much more the people in my entourage and myself are interested by the US election than we were by our own recent Canadian one. I believe. We, and probably a good chunk of the rest of the planet are waiting anxiously for the results. So yeah, your vote does matter. ;)

I wish you an enlightened government.

However I do want to say that like Epimethee I'm more interested in this election than I was my own. All you Americans better have voted today, I would have if I could.

I voted on Monday. (We had early voting in Ohio)

I'm glad it's finally over. No more politicians calling me, and leaving robo-messages. People can take down their lawn signs (though Chik Fil-A was having a free sandwich deal when you bring in your yard sign. Too bad, I didn't have one. I would have put one up, but nobody asked me).

A friend that I've known since high school was running for District Attorney in town, but he didn't win. Oh well, he's still young. He can try again later.

Now, on to the business of running the world, LOL

Yeah, so looks like you were wrong. . .

All politics and party affiliation aside, Obama as president is a pretty incredible event in the course of human history.  He is almost certainly the first democratically elected racial minority for national leader in history.

What ever else may come in the next four years, I think that's pretty *bleeping* cool.

Well this is indeed a trully historic election, for it is the first US election I have voted in (I've voted in Mexico).

Happy with the results, I can see myself doing this again.

Not really a first for humanity, In Mexico we had a native orphan athiest who was about as dark skinned as Obama elected a long time ago

Also a whole slew of Latin, Asian and Islamic countries have had female presidents or prime ministers. Let's just say that the USA is finally catching up...
