Title: EZnif problems
Post by: threshold on August 16, 2008, 10:10:38 PM
I cannot get EZNif converter to work at all.  I have no problems installing the program but when I go to run it I get "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled".  I am using vista  :(

Does anyone have EZnif working on vista?  I just got it to work on desktop (winxp) but still can't get it to work on my laptop.

Well I got EZnif to work somehow, don't know what change actually got it to work but it seems to work now.    However, I tried to install a voice pack but was unable to generate the language file.  I keep getting "Error copying C:\Program Files\Games\Freedom Force\Data\Lang\English\speech.txt to output directory".  Any help would be appreciated.

First, just a note that I am pretty sure you can install a voice pack without generating language files (though that is a nice touch). I just want to make sure you know that the voices should be available even if you haven't edited your strings.txt and generated the language files.

If the language generation is the issue, what are your language generation settings in FFEdit? I keep the Input Directory blank and  set the Output Directory to the ..\Lang\English folder of the mod.

You can also download this little language settings info utility (http://www.stumpyanker.com/ffscripts/langtest.7z), unzip it, and run the executable. Then post the resulting .report file created in the folder where you unzipped the utility. (See the Game FAQ (http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41006.0) for info on hot to get Windows to show you real file names.)

Thanks for the help,
My ffedit input and output directories are both the same C:\Program Files\Games\Freedom Force\Data\Lang\English.  That is the location that ffedit started with.

I am not installing a mod or anything.  I am just adding my old voice packs that I made for  certain characters in FF and trying to get them into FFvs3R.  I was using an old school tutorial on how to do this because the one provided in the wiki page doesn't help.  I am probably doing everything wrong.

Set up your FFEdit fields as I described above. You will likely have better luck like that.

BTW, when you are making changes to the campaign that came with the game (as opposed to FFX3, Liberty Bay, Patriot City, etc.), then the mod is the Data mod.

Still can't get it to work.

Here is what I have done/tried.  First I copied my old voice pack to the speech.txt file for FFvs3R (found in folder "C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Data\Lang\English").  Then I put my mp3 files into "C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Data\Sounds\speech" folder in which I had to make.

I proceeded to run ffedit to generate the language files.  When I leave the input field blank and make the output field "C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Data\Lang\English", the program crashes.  I have even tried leaving the input field blank and making the output field to a folder on my desktop and it still crashes.  I have even tried turning off the UAC for vista.
