Or more accurately, Chess Boxing.

Quote...a chessboard is brought into the ring on a table and the combatants play four minutes, after which the board is wheeled off very carefully so that the pieces don't fall over. Then the fighters put on the gloves and trade punches for a round, after which the board is brought back.
I've heard of hybrid sports, but what the hell?
Yeah, it's a pretty odd thing... some guys tried to start a chess-boxing league here in Vancouver a few years ago, but it never really went anywhere. Maybe with all the current interest in mixed-martial arts, they should do something like chessMMA
that's just.. odd.. of course now i'd be interested in seeing an actual match.
I presume it gets harder and harder to play chess as you take more punches to the head :P
Can't say a sport as violent as that appeals to me much, even if it does involve chess.
I remember reading about this before. An interesting idea all right, and I'm sure they've spent a lot of time working on the balance between the two element, but its hard to see how they'd do this. It must be easier to get a good boxer to learn enough about chess to be able to survive a round of that against a good chess player (however many moves that involves) than it is to get a good chess player to survive a round of boxing with a good boxer. I do realise that it'd be better to be good at both though...
