Title: FF Doesn't Work on my Windows XP.
Post by: kkhohoho on July 09, 2008, 07:30:46 PM
Freedom Force doesn't seem to be working on the 1st Windows XP.  It starts fine, but eventually, the graphics get seriously messed up, and when I get out of the game, the screen still looks seriously messed up, so I have to restart the computer.  However, it works on the 2nd XP just fine. (There's 2 XP's currently set up in the house.)  Does anyone think they know what the problem is?

This doesn't sound like the XP2 problem.  Sounds like a graphics card issue to me.

I may have fixed the problem.  At first, I thought that it was my computer that had a problem, but then I took a lot at the disk.  It was very dusty and scratched up.  I took of care of it though.  Let's just say that there's no longer problems with the disk, and that for now, FF seems to be running fine.  If anymore notable problems come up, I'll post here again.

Hopefully, your problem is solved, but I have heard of this when running the FF 1.3 patch under WinXP SP1. That is, it will try to start up, seem to change screen resolutions several times, then die with a generic "Windows had to close this program" error (or maybe init renderer), and it would sometimes leave the desktop in some lower resolution, or with icons misplaced, etc. It usually works again for a while after a reboot. The short version is: When running XP with Service Pack 1, use the 1.2 patch and not the 1.3 patch (the latter also causes Danger Room problems for some people).
