Title: Losing an Old Friend
Post by: BentonGrey on June 02, 2008, 12:36:49 PM
Howdy guys, I'm afraid that I won't be around much in the next few days.  My wife and I just discovered that our cat, Ronnie, is suffering from kidney failure.  He's too far along to do much about it, and it looks like we have to say goodbye.  He's been my companion for a very long time, and this is extremely hard for me.  Please understand my absence.

I went through exactly the same thing three and a half years ago. Once the kidneys really go, there's nothing that can be done, other than alleviating the cat's suffering.

You, your wife, and your cat have my sympathy.

I had the same thing happen to my little black kitten, Bucko. He was my favorite, I was really sad and I'm so sorry you have to go through that.

Sorry your going through this.  :(

Losing an animal is always hard, especially if it's one you cherish.

You have my sympathies, Benton.  I'll never forget my first pet (I was but four years old), Hans, a little black cat, who ran off from our home and likely ran afoul of the A9 at some point.  He returned several months later (I was the one who found him mewing at our door) with a broken leg (caught up, as it was, in his flea collar, the poor dear) and several nasty looking cuts.  Our neighbour, who happened to be a hunter with an assortment of guns, helped put Hans out of his misery.  No one should need to face such a choice (and, of course, being but a small lad, my parents excluded me from those deliberations concerning Hans), but the choice is put before one more often than not.  I am very sorry to  learn of your little loved one's suffering. Take care.

I'm really sorry to hear this Benton.  You have my deepest sympathies.  I know how close I am to my cat and can only imagine how I'd feel if I lost her.

Well, I buried him yesterday, and I actually feel much better now that he isn't suffering anymore.  I'll be around now, it helps me to keep busy, and FF stuff is useful for keeping my mind occupied.  I want to thank all of you who posted here, offering your condolences.  Its hard, I've never known a cat with as much personality or love as Ron, and our house here in Illinois is filled with memories of him.  Its very much as if a member of the family had died.  My wife and I always used to joke that he was our lazy teenage son, since he pretty much would lay on the couch all day.  Thank you again for your sympathy, it always makes me smile to see the camaraderie that exists in this community.

I'm sorry I missed this thread until now, Benton.  I recently lost one of my cats and I can understand how traumatic the situation can be.  My condolences.

I lost one of my cats last year, it was hard on me, but my wife and daughter took it so much worse. One of our other cats is really slowing down and we're preparing for the worst. Please accept my condolences Benton, it's always hard to lose a loved one.
