Train Wreck pointed me at this guide (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=10532683&an=0&page=0). It's fairly simple but my framerate went up by 15 or so frames per second.
This worked really well. Last night our (full) team had bubble fx, pets and lots of fire - each known to cause major slowdowns on my system. Yet I ran it with higher graphic settings than usual and it was great.
I'll just be happy if the random system resets stop while i'm playing CoX.

Gah! He lives! :D
Thanks for the link, Middy. I installed new nVidia drivers and followed this guide, and the overall performance did improve. I got one side-effect, though: I'm getting this strange, periodic "Atari-blockiness" effect on the bottom half of my screen when I pan around. I flickers in and out. Anyone else seen this?
