Title: Hyperion, the forgotten hero of Marvel
Post by: captmorgan72 on May 14, 2008, 04:38:32 PM
Why isn't this guy more popular? Sentry seems to take all the glory in the Supermanish realm within Marvel and I don't know why. Sentry's origin is ridiculous and the source of his power makes no sense. Hyperion's origin being like Kal-El of DC makes sense. Could someone point me to some decent issues that Hyperion was in. I am starting to get interested in this character.

Get the Squadron Supreme TPB by Mark Gruenwald. I also recommend Supreme Power by JMS.

Also, if you want a bad version, check out the King Hyperion TPB from Exiles. He was awesome.

Just a notice that the Supreme Power series is for adults only.

They really haven't done much with the Squadron Supreme/Sinister. I've gotten pretty much every appearance they've made, as I enjoy them, but even when they were stranded in the MU, you'd never know it, as they only really appeared in issues of Quasar and Avengers (usually being mind-controlled. They have that unfortunate tendency).

It seems that they only get brought out when a writer wants to write a Superman or JLA story, but doesn't work for DC (or DC would never let the events of the story happen). They need to have a writer that actually wants to invest in the characters to be more than a JLA clone.

The King Hyperion story was pretty neat, to showcase what a destructive force Hype really is.

The whole point of the Squadron Supreme/Sinister and Hyperion is to tell Marvel/What If? Justice League and Superman stories, so there's not a whole boatload of incentive for there to be tons of these stories.  Granted, the Sentry's point is largely the same, but give him a few years and I bet he'll largely be out of the picture as well.

Also, Supreme Power is sort of "Ultimate Justice League", in the same vein as "Ultimate Spider-Man" and "Ultimate X-Men". A retelling of their stories in a more "edgy" way.

Thanks for the Supreme Power recommendation, best series I have read in a long time.
