Title: A couple of 3d Studio max Questions
Post by: Blkcasanova247 on May 06, 2008, 06:23:25 AM
Hey Gang,
I've got a question for anyone that can answer. This morning I purchase a new copy of 3d studio max 4 (EDU version).I'm now feeling a little buyers remorse; I jumped on it because I know it's pretty rare but now I feel like I should have been more patient. In any event my question is what is the difference between the education version and the commercial version? My intention with it is to create meshes for Freedom Force...can I do that with the educational version or did I really make a mistake? Thanks a lot guys.

Cas!

IIRC, Max 4 was buggy. If you can, upgrade to 4.2.

IIRC, there is an exclusive, educational-version update (4.3).  Of course, discreet's products are now handled by Autodesk (and Autodesk does not seem too excited about supporting discreet's back catalogue), so good luck finding the update.

I really don't know about any limitations on the educational version, Mr. Newhouse.  If I had to guess, I would suggest that there are no plug-in limitations (in other words, you would be able to use the NetImmerse exporters or the NIFTools plug-ins); the only limitation might be a legal one in that you would be prohibited from using the programme for commercial purposes (absent a commercial license).
