Title: Saying farewell to a friend.
Post by: Pyroclasm on April 30, 2008, 01:49:34 PM
It's a sad day for my wife and I.  Saotome, one of two cats we got when we first moved in together will be put to sleep shortly.  He's lived a fairly long life, but unfortunately a malignant tumor is taking its toll.  We didn't have him put to sleep when we first found out in autumn since he didn't appear to be in any pain.  In fact, he appeared even more lively and affectionate than he'd been in years.  Recently however, the tumor has begun to grow rapidly, and is now huge on the side of his face.  The vet is going to arrive some time between 5pm and 6pm.  Saotome will be gone.  I can't really be with him right now.  So this post is going to have to do.
Thanks for reading.

:( I'm sorry to hear about the loss of part of your family.  I think alot of us here know that our furrier members of the family are such great friends that its really hard to let go.

I've always found great comfort in the fact that they can offer such companionship without ever saying a word.

Pyro, my thoughts are with you.  My family just lost a cat of 24 years, so that sorrow is very familiar.  I'm sure you and your wife gave little Saotome the best life a cat could want.

My condolences to you both, Pyro.  As a lifelong pet owner, I've faced the death of such friends many times.  It never gets easier.

Thank you.

Please make note...

If you have a vet make a house call for this reason... please.. please... PLEASE make sure they won't just leave the dead pet at your home unless you want them to...
The vet just left... and surprised me with "I don't do disposals"...
Now I had to call around, and fortunately local animal control agreed to make an exception...
We are both quite distraught at having our dead cat here...
Posting is the only thing helping me not punch a wall...
Just trying to breathe... and stay calm...

:shock2:  No, don't punch walls.  But do report the schmuck to the licensing board, the BBB and write a letter to the local paper.  Schmuck.

Many condolences.

In the early morning hours of this past Thanksgiving we had the the unfortunate task of having to put my GF's cat to sleep.

I have to say, it's a pretty strange feeling knowing your gf would gladly trade your life for the cats.  :P

I'd write a letter to the BBB as well.  Its poor form of this guy to offer his services and never mention he doesn't do disposal.

We've actually buried a few pets in the backyard of my folks place.  Greenest spots in all the yard.

Animal control did take his body away.  Thanks for the sympathies everyone.  This evening has been quite tough.  Have such a headache.  I know it will get better.  His sister was crying tonight.  Hope she'll get used to it.  They've been together all their lives.  Anyways, thanks again.

Pyro you have my prayers and sympathy.  Glitch Cat sends her sympathy too.  I can only imagine how hard it was for you.

This is very sad. Your Saotome looks quite a bit like one of my kitties, and likewise, she has a sister with us too. You have my condolences.

Sorry, Pyro. I lost a family friend, recently. Saotome knows you loved him. Sometimes, that's the best you can do... Sorry, man.

just keep an eye on her, most people don't know that animals feel loss as well when my dog pasted away 8 years ago the two cats were constantly looking and crying for her, it did stop when we got a new dog, but sadly it's never impossible if the animals are related.

i know that when one of my cats has to go i don't know how the other will cope

I just came home from helping a friend with a very sick cat- depedning on the results of some tests (which we'll know tomorrow morning) my friend will most likely have to put her cat to sleep. I've had to deal with this kind of thing myself, too...

You have my condolences.

Sorry to hear aboutyour family's loss Pyro. My wife and I had put our first dog down some years ago - no problems with the vet, but it wasn't easy.
