I want to go see it, but not sure when I'll be able to.  Anyone going?

Don't spoil it for me!

Movie Boy's Review (Minor Spoilers):
http://www.themovieboy.com/reviews/s/08_superheromovie.htm

It's gotten a 25% rating on RottenTomatoes

Quote from: Roger Moore - Orlando SentinelIt's a movie for the inner 9 year old in us all. That's the age that most people move on from flatulence jokes, and sniggering whenever they hear the 's' or 'f' words.

Quote from: Brian OrndorfSuperhero Movie deserves a special place in the burning fires of Hell, where lazy writing, insipid direction, and an unforgivable eagerness towards bottom-feeding stupidity can roast along with the rest of the spoof genre's recent offerings.

Quote from: Chris Farnsworth - E! OnlineWhat's supposed to be a spoof of all the comic-book movies clogging theaters turns out to be an unfunny retread of the first Spider-Man.

Quote from: Kevin Carr - Film School RejectsContrary to popular belief, it does take a level of talent to tell puke and fart jokes well, and that seems to be one of Craig Mazin's talent, for whatever it's worth.

Even the "positive" I quoted doesn't sound promising.  Meh.  I expected it to be more of the same dren that's been released in the recent years.  It's too bad they haven't yet returned to what made this genre funny in the first place.

Dang. I thought with Leslie Nielson and a fairly decent preview (the one without the extra lame fake Tom Cruise joke in it) it might be ok... But now it seems like any other movie with the word Movie in it.

Two pals of mine were extras. I have to see it by the laws of palship.

The initial trailers looked promising, but as they progressed, the topical and lazy gags started showing up more.  Too bad, I was hoping for something closer to "Airplane" than "Epic Movie".

Scary Movie 1 & 2, Date Movie, Epic Movie, etc are the cruelest form of torture you could possibly inflict on another human being.

Although I did chuckle throughout Scary Movie 3. Dogs dressed as Roman centurions ... is there a higher form of comedy? I think not.

Once I learned this movie had people involved from scary movie 3+, I knew then not to have large expectations for it. Scary Movie 3+ [and previous versions], Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Epic Movie 2/Meet the spartans are only cashing in on pop culture now and the story, acting, plot, etc. don't have to be good. Oddly enough, we keep bashing them, but those movies make money up the wazoo and are made on relatively small budgets. Just another example of money makers != (or =/=) quality.

I loved SM3. Hilarious to me, Charlie Sheen is great.

The only way that is happening these days is to invent a time machine and go back to the 80's.
A spoof film today is 80 minutes of "jokes" written by someone who thinks "Get er done" is the pinnacle of smart comedy.

It scares me that I know exactly what that's from.

As for the comedy... I think is is possible to do an "Airplane" level spoof, but it's going to come out of an independant filmmaker way before it comes from a studio the way things are now.  The team working on this lot just doesn't put the effort into the script like you said.

I saw "Top Secret" a few weeks ago and I have seasons 1 & 2 of the Muppet show.  Both are still amazingly funny because so much of the humor is based on things like wordplay and slapstick, and not media stories and current pop culture.  When your gags feel dated a week after the movie's opened, that's bad.

Considering I'm a guy, it scares me that I know where it's from.

Too bad.  I was hoping for something worthy of "Airplane" as well.

I saw some of the clips on the site and thought it might be funny.

But then again, I have a strange sense of humor.

Thats totally the issue (same beef with the Shrek movies) -- The occasional pop culture reference is fine, provided its a 'real' pop culture reference. Say someone like Elvis... hes become a universal caricature that most people recognize... the winner of last season's Survivor...not so much.

And I have a huge soft spot for Top Secret...

I honestly thought the movie looked just as stupid as all the other "Movie" movies, but I have to admit that I am very surprised it has that high of a score on Rotten Tomatoes. Usually these kind of movies don't go above 10%.

The movie had so much promise but fell flat on it's face in SOOO many ways.

I can't believe I was bored enough to waste money to see this movie.
