Title: staggered skoped parts
Post by: Volsung on March 26, 2008, 03:58:55 AM
(I guess it's a better section for my kind of problem)
You guys are over-active in the "Lets See What You Skoped!' thread.
How do you manage to avoid my problem?

I tried to stick a custom head of mine on a skope.
And during most of the animations that head acts weirdly.
During the melee idle it bounce like a yoyo... During some ranged attack it's behind/late after the body.
Besides... You must know I removed the niSkinInstance.

I know that problem is not unique, I saw it on several skopes.
(A character that run with delayed leggings or a 'wig' which act on his own...)

Recently I got better results by exporting my custom head rigged to the head of a biped. So I could keep a correct "niSkinInstance"
The head stay in place, but it's slightly delayed during walk/run animations..

Do you got a trick? a secret? or it's a matter of luck!

I've got so much work which depends on this problem's resolution  :(

Have you tried making the custom head just a single editable mesh piece instead...  no NifSkinInstance or anything of the sort.
then maybe try pasting it directly to the bip01 Head node.

the other problem may be your video card settings.  i know sometimes mesh pieces wiggle around in game because of video card settings.

That's the first method that I tried, and I got that result :(

If you tell me that's only an hardware problem then I'm reassured.
I'll make some test

Everything that I tried failed...
But I'm disturbed with that video card issue hypothesis.

Detourne_me I must know . In Freedom reborn mod your own avatar "Detourne_me" got the same problem with her hair that moves weirdly.
Lunarman also got his belt and button which 'bounce' during idle_melee animations.
I remember of Ink joker with his hair bouncing.

I must know, does it occur only on my computer?!

ok.  those are the classic symptoms of the video card thing.  try changing the shadows settings from projected shadows to blob shadows, or no shadows at all in-game.

ok,  someone, i forget who also created a batch-file that would fix the ghosting meshes issue.  i think that this also fixed the bobbing mesh pieces too.   I think it was Valandar who made it.  search for ghosting meshes fix.

I checked the ghosting mesh fix tutorial. It was enlightening!
Thanks a lot. I can't wait to test this and see if it release me from this agony.

You can also fix it in nifskope by adding a skin partition to each piece that's listed in the scene root (pieces in the Bip01 don't need one). So if you have a mesh that lists only male_basic, etc. in the scene root, click on the editable mesh and use "make skin partition". Set the number of bones per partition to 4, and check pad small partitions and you're set.

I tried Tommyboy tutorial and NomadX suggestion.
But the head is still lagging during walking/running animation

But if I set the shadows to blob it works fine.
I hated the ghosting issue which occured even with blob shadows.
But if that bobbing error only happen on some computer and can be solved with blob shadows, I guess I can live with this...
I've got no choice with my deadline^^

Your head nif might have a Niskininstance, if that's the case try pasting it on the Scene Root.

I tried before, it also failed. So now I stick to 'blob' shadow
