My only friend, the end. The last modern comic I bought that was always a source of unqualified enjoyment is being canceled. I am very sad. JLU is officially no more as of June.

My last fix for the superior comics setting of the Timmverse is gone. This is especially sad considering the increase in story quality and complexity of late. The teams seemed to be realizing that this book didn't have to be simplistic to be enjoyed by kids...finally. Mourn with me.
It's too bad, but I can't say that I'm surprised. All of the Timm-verse, and other animated DC, comics outlasted the shows that they were based on, but not by a lot.
It's a real shame, as this was the one book that, if I were a parent, I wouldn't mind my kid reading.
It happens. I started reading comics in 1962, so it happens a LOT.
Yeah, I'm well aware, VERY well aware. I've been telling my wife that I'm cursed. Every time I start buying a book it gets canceled. It happened with Aquaman (almost immediately), it happened with JLA: Classified, which I didn't even get a chance to put an order in for, and now it's happening to JLU. My wife told me I just needed to stop buying books so that no more of them got canceled.

If that's the case, there's a whole *bunch* of titles you
should be buying, as a public service!
Haha, maybe you're right PG!
we'll make a list and save modern comics :D
Haha, it sounds like a grand experiment!

Yeah, I used to feel that way too. Every time I liked a series, they put Jack Sparling on the art then cancelled it (Only remember Secret Six, Metamorpho and Plastic Man for sure). I despiesd poor Mr. Sparling for years.
Hey! Waydaminnit... You didn't get The New Original Doom Patrol, did you?

The New Original Doom Patrol deserved whatever it got, thankyaverymuch. Remove Grant Morrison's DP from continuity, and expect any other book to even come close to that magnificence? Not bloody likely.

So, you are neither an Arnold Drake nor a Bruno Premani fan? ;)

If you are talking about John Byrne's run on Doom Patrol than I have to agree it was utter crap and was lucky to break double digits.

I didn't think Byrne's version was that bad. But I was talking about the original Original Doom Patrol, which I am led to understand is back in the continuity. Arnold Drake wrote them, and Bruno Premani drew them. Premani should never have done a superhero comic, but somehow the solid, realistic, undynamic art fit the eries.
And the last hold out bites the dust. DC has cancelled The All New Atom, the very last DC book I was buying. That's it, unless they put out a halfway decent line like Marvel's Adventure line, or a new Aquaman series, I'm out.

looks like your power strikes again....are you sure you don't have jinxing powers like Black Cat...or Jinx?
If you want to try some good DC books ... um .... Jonah Hex is excellent and Morrison's Batman has been pretty snazzy. Geoff John's GL and JSA are also pretty good.
Thanks for the suggestions Jakew, but most books (in fact, almost all) are stepped in years and years of bad continuity. This is not to say that everything done in the characters' histories is bad, not even the majority, but that there are some major things which have changed their worlds (and the characters themselves) so much that I don't get any enjoyment out of them. With Batman, there have been SEVERAL things lately, and the whole Nightwing thing is a constant sore spot for me. I'm stick to archives acquired through the library. I just wish DC would put out the DVD collections like Marvel....as a matter of fact, is there ANY area where Marvel ISN'T wiping the floor with DC at the moment? Obviously not movies, obviously not TV (because of the success of spider-man), obviously not video games....
Buy the first Jonah Hex tpb ... I guarantee enjoyment. It is totally respectful to the character's original continuity.
I just thought of another good DC book ... Manhunter.
