Title: Whats up with the shadows in this game.
Post by: 2 The Limit on March 07, 2008, 11:35:38 PM
Hi, I was wondering why disabling shadows helps solves problems, I had a clipping problem where someones bald head would clip through the helmet or hair if they moved their head. I only had to put character shadows to blobs to fix the problem. I wanted to know if there is a way to play the game with all shadow options on?

I apologize if this question makes anyone mad I was just curious if it could be done or not. Sometimes it bothers me that a graphical option creates gliches in a game, such as the Shadows in Neverwinter Nights 2.

It's a problem with the game engine, and using meshes that were made for, or to be compatible with, the first Freedom Force game. Meshes made specifically for FFV3R with the FFV3R only exporters tend not to have the problem. Meshes made with the FF exporters will work in both games but in FFV3R have various problems if shadows are enabled.
In theory the problem could be 'fixed', but only by a very lengthy and difficult process applied to each mesh, individually (do a search for 'niskinparition' if you want to know more), which is why people tend not to bother.
