Title: Expansion for Fallout 2 revived
Post by: Swingman on February 26, 2008, 03:55:05 AM
A dedicated group of Fallout fans has gotten hold of a lot of material originally intended for an official expansion to the old Fallout 2. One of these guys has allegedly been working for 2 years on making this into a fan based expansion.  If you were a fan of this amazing game way back then, you better go check it out. It sounds very promising and this may just be the excuse you were looking for to play this game once more. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I definitely intend to as the old Fallout veteran/nerd I am.

The expansion should contain six new areas and extensions to some already existing, along with new characters, missions and equipment.

I've had this installed since it came out January and its totally awesome. EPA is a fantastic level very close/perfect to how the bible/design docs portray it. The guy who made this did fantastic work and if you love Fallout you need to download this.

Will Fallout 2 run on a modern rig?  I know some older games have issues, and though I love Fallout 1 & 2 dearly, I haven't tried to play either in years.

I run it on XP pro, so I assume it should run on a modern rig. Vista may need some work to get it too run, but I doubt it.

One problem I have with this thing, it invalidates old saves. No biggie since I was planning to roll a new character anyway, but I didn't see any warning about that in the notes, though I only glanced at them. I'll give my full opinion after I get through a few hours.

I run vista. I believe i just set it to compatibility mode and it was all good to go.

Well I tried the thing, but it doesn't like to run off old installs apparently. And I can't remember who I lent my Fallout 2 disc too. So until I figure out which friend has the damn disc, no Fallout for me  :(
