Title: FF on Mac: Keys repeating previous key
Post by: masterlargo on February 17, 2008, 03:52:17 PM
I just recently bought Freedom Force for mac, and as I was enjoying it more and more, i started downloading skins and meshes online. At first, it was working fine, but then, i noticed that my commands weren't being executed until i hit the key numerous times. Then, i realized that the key i was pressing was repeating the previous key i had hit. So, for example, if i paused the game, and then wanted to go to objective by pressing "o", it would act as if i had pressed space again. i had to hit "o" multipple times before any response. This is not a game crashing problem, but it is an aggravating one nonetheless. I tried removing all installed meshes and skins, but to no success.
Help!!!

Is this happening anywhere else?  Sounds like a possible keyboard issue rather than a program one.

Other than that, there aren't too many Mac players here, but I think there are one or two.  Hopefull one can help you.

No, its only with Freedom Force. This also happens when im trying to type in names and such while creating heroes or saving a game.

Yeah, FF and FFvT3R (and many other PC games) check the keyboard scan codes, rather than just what ASCII character was entered. That's why some people have a hard time with things like getting the console to come up on non-U.S. keyboards because the scan codes can vary.

Anyway, I don't know if that means that it isn't an actual keyboard issue. Since most software doesn't work this way, there could be a hardware or driver issue and you might never notice in other programs.

My guess is along the lines of something tricky done to get things to work on the Mac. Of course, I notice dropped key-presses on the PC at times, too, so I can't be sure.

Anyway, as cat mentioned there are a few Mac players on the board and I can think of at least one regular who played the original game on a Mac. They may have a clue about this.

BTW, I am going to change the subject line on your post to mention Macs, so that it might get the attention of the right folks.
