Title: Samurai Drawings (Updated!)
Post by: Mowgli on February 10, 2008, 01:44:43 PM
Hey there! I have finished all of my work for other people and can finally draw for myself again. So I started drawing a few pics that I will put up in my house. These are two pics of samurai that I spent a fair amount of time detailing. I will ink these after a third is done. I want to hang them as a tryptich.

The pics are referenced from The Last Sanmurai which had beautiful handmade armor. The likenesses of the actors are okay, but I was concentrating on the armor. I hope you like them. Critiques and comments are always welcome and appreciated. Thanks for stopping by!

Those are just outstanding!!!

I've got a thing for drawing era-accurate ancient armour and weapons myself, although I did have my reservations over some of the costumes in The Last Samurai. Great job with Ken Watanabe's likeness (his right eye seems a little long, though), I knew it was him without even needing to read the description.

i'd be curious to see your take on some of Kurosawa's interpretations of the samurai from some of his old movies.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. These drawings took some time and I am still trying to figure out the borders for the figures.

Zulu: Glad you dig them. I liked the costumes in TLS because they were hand made and represented more than one time period. I know that doesn't make for the most historically accurate look, but it does add variety.

Mr. Hammick: Oh, I have been thinking about doing a picture or two of Mifune. He's fantastic!

Tortuga: Thanks man! And when do we get to see some Seniority? (Waits patiently...)

The inks are going to be long and meticulous, but I think it will pay off. Next up may be a drawing of a famous Kabuki actor, in full costume and make-up, that I saw will in Tokyo. He looks amazing on stage.

Thanks to everyone who stopped to look, and especially for the replies. The feedback is greatly appreciated!  :)
