Title: Bluudlust killed the video card?
Post by: MJB on January 23, 2008, 11:31:27 PM
Earlier Viking invited my Brute, Bluudlust, to run a few missions. Lots of fun and mayhem was had. Eventually Viking ran out of contacts in St. Martial so we moved the fun to the RWZ.

While running some RWZ missions he got the dreaded black screen of death. Here's hoping his video card was just overheated. :(

TW loves to tell this story.

Back in the day of missions giving crap for xp when compared to street hunting, we used to farm the wolf missions. It started out me herding up the PI docks full of Nemesis mobs, but we eventually moved to the wolf missions since you didn't have to worry about peons mucking things up. It wasn't like todays farming either where everyone just stood at the door and did nothing, after the mobs were herded up, everyone had to get in there and do the killing.

But anyway one of my herds, which was the outdoor map of wolves with the AV, I managed to get the entire map short of a few strays crammed into one of those little side passages with the big rook at the end. So picture a 100 plus wolves crammed into a 20 foot square area.

Rain, TW, TJ and whomever was with us came up to unload hell, but shortly after TJ dropped. And didn't come back. For like a week!

Apparently all the effects going off, and the sheer ridiculous number of canines, actually MELTED his video card.

I still take pride in that one

That was also before they implemented the aggro and target caps.  Instead of only hitting 16 mobs or aggroing 10 mobs per taunt, you hit and aggroed EVERYTHING in range.  Also, it was before they made it so each mob took up its own space.  Back then, mobs could stand in the same space as others so you could fit 100-150 mobs into very small spaces, like what was affectionately referred to as Burn Boxes by fire tanks (the rectangular metal shipping containers with open tops like found in the Boomtown outdoor mishes.  Then you could fit 100 wolves inside one of those boxes no problem as long as you could survive the hate.  Verfall was the only tank who could ever survive that much hate.  My fire tank could get about 50 or so before the damage would overwhelm him.

I remember getting the too many targets error message whenever I jumped in the puppy box with my scrapper and unleashing the PBAoE attack.

But it never melted my video card, since I only use genuine 'Made in Taiwan' components.
