Just wondering, if you guys know of any good games out there made from any DC characters.
I don't think there are any. Every DC game I've ever played was a steaming pile of crap.

Agreed. Closest thing you'll get is Benton Grey's DC Universe Mod for :ffvstr: That's about it...

Woo-hoo! That made my day Kk! However, there is also some other DC goodness for FF and FF2 already out there. The JLA mod is great, the DCU mod is a lot of fun, and the Teen Titans mod is fantastic! Prev. even has a DC mod or two.
As far as non-FF games, JLH was mediocre, and is probably worth a rental. Even though the graphics are only decent and the villains selection is pretty poor, most of the powers are pretty cool.
I'd have to go back to the days of the Famicom/NES to find a DC-based game that I liked. There was a 1989 Batman game loosely based on the first Tim Burton movie, really tough side-scroller (sort of like a crappier original Ninja Gaiden), but the graphics were pretty good for the time.
I guess Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu (for the PS2/XBox) is the least offensive of the recent DC games. Like Batman: Vengeance it uses a Timm-Verse inspired art style but unlike that game, the controls actually work (the controls and camera on Vengeance were broken, rendering the game almost unplayable except for the most die-hard of fans). It's a fairly average beat'em-up (emphasis on the word average), but it's a half-decent way to spend a few hours if you've got nothing better to do.
Actually I kinda liked Batman:Vengeance I don't know maybe at least the graphics, and the idea on the missions are swell...I think.
Also, it's been mentioned that if you turn your head and squint, Assassin's Creed makes a pretty decent Batman Simulator.
You guys are so hard on DC! They totally had...
and there's that one game....
um....
and then there's....
well, The Adventures of Batman & Robin was all the rave back in the day. Um, Teen Titans faired well...I guess. Death and Return of Superman for snes was also well recieved. It's a beat em up, so that may be why. Superman Arcade may have done well...I really don't remember it. Batman: Return of the Joker (note, not the n64/ps1 version) on nes was also one of those fan fave games way back when. It might be the game zulu is referencing. Um...superman for atari? IGN seems to think it's the best superman game ever if that means anything. Superman: Shadow Of Apokolips got pretty mediocre reviews and if you enjoyed the TAS, you might like it. Batman: Chaos in Gotham is another game based on the TAS that fared in the mediocre range. Batman: Vengeance was also praised, but only on certain systems. The ps2 version got the highest praise and the PC version got the worse (control problems). Finally, Batman Begins was fair to mediocre.
So yeah, that's about it. DC hasn't had as much luck in the video game genre as marvel has. Their top pulling games were probably the JL games and Justice League Heroes. Honestly, DC is known for their crappy games, as shown by the posts here, more so than their mediocre to good games. One game you should avoid at all costs: Justice League: Task Force...or Aquaman. Basically, anything that isn't Batman or Superman (and even them) haven't been successful...yet.
Also, thanks for the point out, sir BG.
I can't think of any DC character game that's ever been highly recommended. The one's that are "least sucky" on the other hand, from what I hear from professional review sites, are Justice League Heroes, Batman Begins, and Superman Returns...
Ouch. Why do the DC games suck so much? You'd think there'd at least be a lot better Superman and Batman games out by now...
Superman: Returns? I've heard/seen nothing but negativity about that game since it was released...
i think the biggest reasons with the DC games not being very good might fall into one of a few categories:
- The makers of the game were spent more time on the graphics than the story or play control of the game. EX: Superman Returns movie game, Batman movie game, JL Heroes,
- The game creators decided to bust out a quick game based on a currently popular style of game. JL Heroes (trying to cash in on Marvel's success with Xmen Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance), that old Justice League fighting game on the SNES I believe it was.
- The play controls (or the difficulty of certain controls) were screwed up. Ok, may just be my opinion but iit killed my wanting to get Batman Vengence (I think it was) when I couldn't for some reason make what should've been a simple jump. Superman Returns? I played the demo on the XBox 360 and found the controls to be beyond awful.
- DC and it's parent company Warner Brothers have yet to care about doing all they can to make their properties look good in a video game environment.
Although it's not a "DC Game" Mugen is good.

Exactly what I wanted to say. I dont want to make it sound like Marvel has got it 100% right but I think the poor guys at DC are too used to the idea that they have no say when it comes to liscencing. I actually daydream about TimeWarner eventually cutting off their allowance and letting them move out of the house.
The Adventures of Batman & Robin for SNES back in 1994 is about the only one I can come up with. It was a side scroller, but they had some uniques levels: one where you had to follow the Catwoman (ok, maybe she was just prescripted to run in the background, but it seemed like you were chasing her), and a nice fight with the Joker while standing on a moving roller coaster. Anyways, Konami hit this one out of the park compared to the other crap out there. The Street Fighter-like Justice League game (SNES/sega) was worth the rental back then, but hard to recommend.

i remember this one i think, it was fairly decent, and had some cool batmobile/batwing levels too. styled like TAS i think too.
ummn, the online games for The Batman cartoon are okay, and the Teen Titans flash game fighter was pretty decent.
on a side note... The games for Nintendo DS suck! superman returns was boring impossible and stupid (part of it is a turn based strategy system.... why does it take supes 10 turns to get across the city to stop a badguy?
and JLH is kinda dumb too.
It has been said that sometime this year they plan to release Lego batman so... there's that I guess.
Well, I've heard nothing but bad things about Superman Returns too, but some review sites have given it a mediocre score, which is better than most DC games, so that's why I put it on my "least sucky" list. I haven't played it, but from the reviews I read, even though they panned it, they said it was the best superman game to date (and also admitted they were depressed in admitting that).
I think the Lego Batman game will be fun if you liked the Lego Star Wars titles. But then again, that's kind of sad if the best game coming out for Batman is based off of Legos.
I only played the beginning of Batman Begins but it wasn't too bad.
Not sure if it was a game mentioned already but it was a beat em up for the snes could have been JLA as it had batman, superman, the flash and some other characters, some reason the third fight regardless of who it was would win the fight every time...even the rubbish characters.

That game was beyond awesome for the time. Heck, it was based off of the best Batman EVER.
Funny how the last DC game i remember playing was The adventures of Batman and Robin in the SNES. Thanks for the DC mods suggestions Benton.
Just some wishful thinking on my part i guess. I thought there would have already been some good games by now. But i do recall having heard of some good reviews about Batman Begins though.
Now that i think about it. It does seem like DC isn't really that concerned in making good games. But i'm not really sure how these things work. Does DC pick the game developers or is it the other way around, and its the game developers who decide which characters they would like to use (DC"s or Marvel's) for a game.
Well, DC doesn't decide anything since they're owned by Warner Bros.........although, because of that you'd think they'd do better with their movies....
Anyroad, Batman Begins is alright in the first couple of missions, but then when you actually start fighting groups of guys you realize how totally WEAK Bats is. It starts out alright, but it becomes frustrating and tiresome after a bit. I'm just aching for a Batman game like spider-man 2. I've said before that, if I could clone myself (and my computer, I suppose ^_^), I'd do a Bats free-roam campaign for FF2.
Ohh, and Aquaman isn't THAT bad. It's not good, but it's not the worst game ever, like it's been called. It might be a fun rental if you're an Aquaman fan, although the fact that its the bearded loser look doesn't help.
Superman Returns is a great game to rent, since it does a really great job of letting you FEEL like you're Superman. You can throw a car across the city, fly at incredible speeds, and the controls are pretty good.....but after the thrill of that wears off, you're left with a pretty bland game with a really boring list of villains. The inability to destroy the buildings really hurts it too. If you could battle through the city against Kalibak, and it would crumple the way it does in FF.......that would be AWESOME.
I would love to see not just a Batman free roaming game but a DC free roaming game.
you know . . . playing as certain characters would allow you to access certain missions and you could swap out characters during the course of the game.
or maybe just a Batman game with some cameos by other heroes.

For what it's worth, I remember the name too. It's
Justice League Task Force. Back in the day it was ok. Not a great fighter but not too bad, kind of like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters. However, I've recently had the pleasure of playing both of these games recently and they both rather suck. Not worth it. The old Street Fighters kick both these games butts.
Justice League Heroes is pretty good, but....
a. Its far too short.
b. Doesn't have a real big replayability factor.
c. They wasted space by including Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner as unlockables since they both have the same exact powers as John Stewart. Should have made them alternate costumes for John, like they did by making Jay Garrick an alternate Flash costume, and included two other heroes.
d. Its a pain to play because the characters repeat the same lines over and over again. Got tired REAL QUICK (pardon the pun) of hearing the Flash say "Fastest Man Alive" a ton.
I agree with what everybody said about Justice League Heroes. Although I've been playing it since the day it came out, It's not an entirely great game when you honestly review it. The customization of each characters powers was nowhere near as uninhibited as in Marvel's XML or MUA games. You are stuck with 5 power choices (4 for most of the unlockable characters) and the boost system is, to be honest, a tedious distraction when the creators claimed they wanted to remove all the RPG stuff and focus more on action.
The Halo-style health and energy recovery system is a HUGE plus though. The near-absence of health potions and power-ups made the game feel more realistic.
I loved the voice work. Some lines do get to be repetitive (the turbo attack meter for Flash goes off a LOT since his attacks happen so fast.) But the interactions between characters was very well thought out, and added immensely to the comic feel. There are some really great lines spoken by each character and they are all true to their original spirit.
The graphics are great, but why waste them by making the characters so small on the screen?
And my final gripe about JLH is the lack of a Rumble Room / Battle mode. That was a big replayability factor for the XML games. Who wouldn't want to wail on their friends playing as Superman vs. Green Lantern? Or play as Darkseid taking on the whole League simultaneously? Wonder WOman vs. Hawkgirl? Batman vs. Huntress? Aquaman vs. Superman? How is it that MUA and XML seem to be so packed with features like this, and the DC games are so straightforward, go-from-point-A-to_point_B, do not collect $200 when you pass go, do not have any fun while doing it? Who cares about "Superman should be immune to any of Batman's attacks and should knock him out with one punch..."? I just want to have a fun time watching it!
I agree about Warner Brothers being a big hinderance. Marvel's games focus more on having fun. DC's game designers worry too much about the game being true to the comic characters and the overall look / packaging of the game. XML was an awesome game because you really FEEL like the character you are playing, and when you gain more power, it actually LOOKS that way on the screen (bigger, flashier effects.)
Here's to hoping the next Justice League game takes some risks or at least takes some more cues from MUA.
Justice League Heroes... The game I never unwrapped. I bought it in a buy 2 get 1 free deal, along with MUA and Lego Star Wars II. After playing MUA, I never had the stomach to open JLH. I just didn't want to be disappointed. Then I bought a 360 and lent my PS2 to a friend. Now that JLH is just sitting, gathering dust.
Had to double post (just to resurrect a dead topic).
I just found a fun little article about the the worst 10 Superman games. Enjoy!
