What is the world or entertainment coming to?
Specifically, I'm referring to animation.
I understand that animation from outside of North America is cool and groovy - I've been a fan of British television for many moons, and I still remember being enraptured by Nausicaa when I was a young sproglet back home in Australia - but while trolling through the DVD store I saw the following title on the shelf:
Pumpkin Scissors
Seriously? You're kidding me right? Pumpkin Scissors?? What's the sequel series going to be called, Avocado Staple Remover?? Eggplant Whisk??
I understand that it can be difficult coming up with a series title that adequately captures the mood you're looking for. I understand that with the volume of titles out there it can be difficult finding something that won't sound derivative of someone else's title. I understand that sometimes it's hard to get the creative juices flowing, but seriously - when did looking around your kitchen or office and naming two random objects become accepted practice???
And get this: the justification for the series name? Apparently the main characters belong to an organisation "that has many layers like a pumpkin". So... now we're confusing pumpkins with onions. Ooooh Lordy.
It may well be a cool anime series for all I know, but I somehow think I won't be able to take it seriously with a name like that...
On the plus side, there beside it was the eponymous "Erik the Viking", an exceptional piece of comedic cinema from my youth. Alright, maybe not exceptional, but I do remember it fondly.
Bobobo-bo-bo-bobbo. Fights crime with his nose hair.
Nothing else needs to be said.

this might just be me, but I find most anime's to have ridiculous titles.
How is this different than the names of many american rock, grunge and alternative bands? Stuff such as "pants yell" and "bang camaro" come up a lot in Boston. As for anime for the last 10 or 15 years I've been saying that I'm not an anime fan but there are certain series and directors I enjoy. Seriosly there was some point in which I felt 90% of everything become fan service and plagiarism. There where more than enough people in the US encouraging this crap ("oh cool, I hope she falls over and you see her panties and he gets a nose bleed!") but personally except for series like FLCL, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebbop and halfway hits like Speed Grapher then I would lose interest entirely.

It's not - I don't listen to any of them either. Hee...
