Study shows that playing Wii Sports using the console's "active" control scheme doesn't seem likely to affect childhood obesity rates (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/071221/health/health_obesity_it_gaming) (links to external article).
In related news, numerous reports have shown that playing Guitar Hero III doesn't actually make you a better guitar player
Seriously though, I think the article sort of missed the idea that the Wii's control scheme opens up possibilities for creative exercise options (a friend of mine actually straps on 10-pound wrist weights when he plays Wii Boxing, and he swears it really does feel like a real workout).
i disagree with it.
heck the Dance Dance Revolution game helped my cousin lose 20lbs.
I tried it but I apparently am too clumbsy to get up to the high settings. LOL!
I'm also going to disagree as well. I do a combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercising 5 days a week and whenever I go to my buddy's house we'll play a couple rounds Wii Sports and it always gets my heart pumping.
Although, I have noticed some people play while sitting down and just flick their wrists. While my friend and I try to emulate athletes playing the sport i.e. full deliveries and wind-ups when pitching, "dancing" your feet while playing boxing. Quite frankly, playing these games is a lot more exciting and hilarious when mimicking an athlete then just sitting on your bum, flicking your wrist.
It all depends on how you play it.
