Title: I AM LEGEND hidden sign
Post by: Dr.Volt on December 18, 2007, 01:16:41 PM
Hey, just heard about a rumor about and  interesting hidden sign in the movie I Am Legend.  Apparently at the beginning of the movie there is a scene of the abandoned Time Square where there is a movie poster on billboard that has a Superman and a Batman symbol together.  There's an interesting commentary here:  http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/12/18/batman-vs-superman/
(http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/12/18/batman-vs-superman/)
There's also a picture of the very poster at the link above.  The bill board from I Am Legend says that this movie is to be released 5-15-2010.  VERY interesting!  Is this an RL release date?  General speculation seems to be leaning in the direction that it is an early advertisement for the upcoming JL movie.  Or could it be some other movie altogether?  Either way it's very clever.  Now that's fanboy goodness!

Btw, I didn't see a thread discussing I Am Legend.  Have any of you guys seen it?  If so, what did you think?  I've heard very mixed reviews...but the movie is doing well at the box office.

I don't know if I'd agree its an Easter Egg (at least by my definition). Its definitely a nod to the fan boys, but Its pretty blatant in the scene and on screen for quite a while.

Enough so that everyone in the show I was in was getting a chuckle out of it.

The movie itself I thought was alright.
I had two big gripes.

I'm not really giving anything away plot wise, just a couple of gripes about some film making decisions, but for those who want to stay completely free from any kind of exposure...I'm spoliern' my gripes
A) I didn't like the ending at all. Especially when the original source material had what i consider a much more effective and interesting ending.

B) Making the creatures All CGI. There were moments where CGI would have been needed but for a lot of it, it just seemed unnecessary and really took me out of the movie, especially when some of the rendering had a cartoony Mummy Returns-esque feel to it. I'm a fan of the makeup over CGI in  most cases.
That said. Will Smith did a great job, and the abandoned empty New York was really well done. All in all i think its worth a matinee showing. Probably not full price though....

I did notice that sign. It was cool. It would be nice if they'd do something like this.

As for the rest of the movie, I did enjoy it, but MAN was it bleak. It would have been such a different movie if he hadn't
gotten caught in the trap.
I doubt the sign is a legitimate nod to anything in the future. It was probably just an attempt to try and make it feel like this is within the near future, hence the "Legally Blonde 22" billboard and the fact that Wicked is still on Broadway

As for the movie, I agree the ending in the book is much better than this one. Though i think this is a very well made movie and on some levels makes more sense. It always rubbed me wrong that the guy in the book seemed to just self teach himself all he needed to know about viruses and what not. Yes he has quite alot of time on his hand but that just felt like a stretch. The thing that made this movie great was the atmosphere though. Really created a feeling of isolation, which is hard when it takes place in the middle of New York.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I thought it was a much more realistic version of a zombie movie. Will Smith gave a great preformance.

That said, I never read the book. Could someone post a spoiler (with the appropriate buttone to conceal it) as to how the book ended. Thanks!

The Wikipedia entry for the novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_am_legend) provides a brief summary of the book and gives away the ending. Warning: If you don't want the novel or movie spoiled for you, don't click on the link I provided (or I guess you can click it, but don't read the page it links to)... you have been warned!

As someone who has read the book, how does the movie end?  Spoil me, I can take it.

Following Zulu's lead:

The Wikipedia entry for the film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Legend_%282007_film%29) provides a brief summary of the movie and reveals the ending. If you do not want the movie or the book spoiled for you, don't click. Or do, I don't really care. Just know it'll explode and result in a dystopia were only a few people survive. Are you prepared for that?

Thanks Zulu, I appreciate the link. I'm sure people will think I'm crazy for this, but then again, I saw the movie before I heard the ending opf the book.

I like the movie ending better. It means that Neville's struggle had a point. Just my opinion.
