Title: The Witcher
Post by: TheMarvell on December 08, 2007, 12:20:39 AM
has anyone played this PC RPG released back in October? I never even really heard of the game or looked into it until I saw an ad that caught my interest and read up on it. Sounds like a pretty good story-driven RPG. Is anyone familiar with it?

Yes, I'm deep into chapter 2 right now.

Honestly I really like this game, despite it's flaws and embarrasing bits in my opinion it is a better game than most other rpg's in recent memory. The gameplay style is kind of between diablo and oblivion and you play a monster hunter (i.e. witcher) on a quest to track down a crazy cult that ran off with your clans secrets.

The gameplay is pretty fast, you will find yourself doing several quests at once and there's lots of chances to affect the narrative with the choices you make. The embarrasing bits are ocasional fits of bad camera work and the fact that you are encouraged to have sex with several characters in the game. While I dont blush away from stuff like that (hell, 80% of the books I read are Max and Vertigo) you actually get a card when you succesfully bed somebody so it's got a dumb "gotta catch 'em all" feel to it, and your romances never really change the plot or narrative at all.

The combat looks real nice, with fluid motion captured swordplay and your magic is potent and easy to use. All in all there is no reason not to pick this one up except of course the mature content if that sort of thing offends you.

That's single life in a nutshell.

Thank you thank you, I'll be here all week!
