The last game I played was Gears of War so I decided to treat myself with this the past weekend.
I have to say this game is surprising me. The maps / cities can not be beaten, they are breathtaking.
The first time I rode up the road to a hill overlooking a city and then after riding to the city and feeling the scale
and realism and realising it is not just a 2d picture you where looking at. Wow it is cool. And the city's feel / atmosphere is just right, I have fun just climbing and running around checking views from high buildings, doing interesting jumps.
And for an assasin / stealth game the normal combat is turning out to be a lot of fun. Especially now that I got the short knife looking blade & counter kills.
The only thing I did not like is the BIG surprise you get early on. Won't spoil it but it stopped me from living myself into this medievel world which is a shame since it is so well done.
I felt by only removing this angle it would have allowed the player to feel like an assasin in a medievel world and not a player playing a game of an assasin.......

I know exactly what you mean. I don't understand what the developers are trying to do with this idea but it make sthe entire affair less believable, less immersive. I'd much prefer the game as it was originally 'advertised'
This game is indeed pretty sweet. And concerning "that", I do agree that it hindered some sort of actual experience of being an assassin in medievel/crusader times, but it also sorta opens up a new twist in the games plot line... somehow. I don't know, I haven't fininshed it yet, but that's how I hope what happens.
But so far this game has surprised me, it's an amazingly beautiful game, and the controls feel great. The combat is fun, but slightly easy. (Counter.... counter.... counter.... counter... etc.) And who just doesn't love climbing buildings. (Spider-Assassin, spider-assassin, how'd ya get up there my little spider-assassin?)
I only wish they would have done a few more things to this game... look if you want the game sort of spoiled for you.
I wish they would have made it so you could hide EVERYWHERE. Like inside buildings, blend in with the crowd, do anything possible to hide. But nope, they give you only four ways to hide. That's it. Sitting on a bench, hiding on a roof garden, in a pile of hay, and blending with the scholars. And they said you could blend in with the crowd, right? Did they say you could only really do it when scholars were near? I wish they could have made it so you could blend in with EVERYONE! That would be oh-so-kick-assery right there. But that's my rant, I guess...
it's a gorgeous game to look at, and the physics are top notch, there's a few details i feel they could have "pushed" as for as the assassin bit goes, would have been nice to actually get that crossbow.
there's a few things that niggled at me, ie I can climb to the top of a building to escape my opponents, and then jump off into a conveniently placed wagon of hay, and everyone's forgotten me, yet my horse knows exactly where I am and walks directly to me o_O.
in the end tho, dissapointing, the end was terrible, and overall the game was far too easy.
I found the whole experience kind of disappointing..
The "cool angle" of the game story was just a total immersion killer, and there were so many details that just seemed... unfinished...
The biggest disappointment for me, however, was Altair's character design.. the game's supposed to be Assassin's Creed, and it's supposed to be about stealth and being someone who can vanish in an instant...
Nope, instead whoever designed him obviously just went "0MGz!!!11!!! Let's make 47T41R tot4l b4d4ss!!!!!11!!"
I mean, honestly.. The league of Assassin's all wear white robes with BRIGHT RED sashes and a gazillion knives on them?? Yeah, nothin' suspicious about that..
Guard 1: Hey Bob, check out that guy over there with all the knives..
Guard 2: Huh, that's funny. You'd don't see that every day. He does look like he means business..
Guard 1: Hey, isn't he dressed like that assassin we were chasing earlier?
Guard 2: Yeah.. now that you mention it he does- No wait, never mind, he's praying now and sitting on a bench. False alarm.

Yes I agree with you guys in that some things don't make much sense. It's funny how I jump into the rooftop garden, the guards are searching for me, then my notice bar goes white and I can jump out and return via the same ladder, all they want to do is get back to their routes.
Another thing they could have done is have a city alert meter like when you did a hit. Because well in the third city I had something like 50 kills and everything is still cool. With every kill the alert meter should increase and you will have to lay low for a while to bring it down. And an overall wanted meter because an assasin that killed maybe 30 guards in one town then 40 in the next then maybe 20 around the countryside and 50 in this town should not be able to walk around town freely he must be sneaking around period.
But then I am only up to the fourth hit now so maybe something like this will still happen.
the mixed reviews of this game disappoint me greatly. I was really looking forward to this game, but most of the people I've talked to, both online and offline, basically say even though the game has some impressive features, it's ultimately pretty lacking and not worth the full price, similar to how a lot of open-sandbox type games are (Spider-Man 2 anyone?). I was going to pick this game up originally, until I got laid off, to which I decided to reserve my money more properly, only buying the games I really want (in this case, I saved for Mass Effect).
I still want to play this game. I might rent it someday. But I was really hoping it would be a killer app. Like a Prince of Persia meets Hitman like it originally looked like, only with smart AI...oh well.

Not all that random- she is IN the game, after all. Saw a clip on Spikes Video Game Awards show that completely gave away the massive plot twist y'all are talking about. Did a good job digitizing her likeness, though.
oh ... I didn't know that.
More incentive to go try the game now.

It really is worth a rental but yeah the A.I is dumb and it gets repetitive. In all honesty, you really dont need to bother with being stealthy since its so easy to beat the guards. Lately Ive been jumping into a group of guards and slaughtering them all. I only run when Im bored of killing them.
assassin's creed is a fun game.
but theres a part where u gotta assassinate this one guy but hes surrounded by (special people) and when u get near em they push you, makin all kinds of noises!
