Title: Favorite ToyBox Toy?
Post by: Renegade on November 27, 2007, 05:00:44 PM
Hey there me Buckos,

Just out of curiosity, what's your favorite mesh from the ToyBox (or other Renegade mesh venues), and why?

I suppose I could've run this as a poll, but I'm not really looking at this as a popularity contest. Just idle chit chat.

Vigilante. You really went all-out with that one, with the all the neat little touches (guitar, dynamite, lasso). Seems like a real labor of love.

Owlman. Loved all the detail that went into his cape and belt.  Course, I'd also love to see you finish the group off as well, but that's a different story.

Gosh that's not a fair question.
I would have to list my favorites (plural).
Hourman - aside from the fact that Hourman is fraggin' awesome, the geometry and animations are spot-on
GL Hal V2 - beautifully sculpted geometry, clever animations including the pickup animation and lantern
Captain Marvel Classic - the cape is perfect, you captured the rounded bootcuffs accurately; heroic
                                 animations abound in the KFs
Captain America Classic - the proportions are heroic but not too muscular.
Wildcat - captures the spirit of a boxer very well and it's WILDCAT!

Quick answer: Invincible. You should know why Ren.

I'll give a different answer later after I look through the site.

Hard question!

I think it's a three-way battle between Vigilante, Captain America Modern and Sub-Mariner. I still think Sub-Mariner's little heel wings and 'drinks glass of water' power-up animation are great.

The Namor with the moving wing.

Ok secondary response based on less selfish reasons:
Superman
Martian Manhunter
Captain America + variants

And the CM jr and Superboy SA meshes because they were excellent for my teen skopes.

Marvel- All the Captain America/USAgent variants, I love the keyframes for these guys

DC- Owlman

When I first saw Vigilante had FX that actually worked along with the mesh, I was blown away. It's unbelievably intricate and a lot of love went into that piece of work. Vigilante is one of my favorites.

Because of the Toybox, I have a renewed love for the All-Star Squadron/JSA. I can't stop collecting every single character from that team to have them fight Nazis in :ffvstr:. I wish you would do more (wink, wink) but I've been stoked with the stuff that's already there. So yeah, all the All-Star Squadron/JSA characters are my favorite.

This is a really hard one but I'll just go with Superman. Why? I just feel it really captures the character with it's spot on physical proportions and great keyframe set.

Superman, and all of your teen meshes (even the outdated teen_14 ones) with the Cap meshes only slightly behind.

On another note seeing as its to do with the site, on the site they have a Majestic skin and what not, they need Omni Mans meshes (Character.nif and Keyframes.kf ?) but I make the skins folder and stick the Maj files in there and move OM's but I get a black and white OM.

What the hell is wrong? I thought I may as well ask here instead of wasting space with a thread.

But what are your future plans BTW?

hmmn...   Namor is up there,  I just love that arrogant p**ck,  and Vigilante and Owlman are truly exceptional with keyframes and spot-on mesh pieces.  but i think it was Isiah Bradley that really put you over the top, and every Cap mesh afterwards have been pure gold.

The New Avengers' Luke Cages, not because I skinned them but because they are amazingly sculpted.

Luke CageV5 being at the top. The way Coipel drew Luke is be far my favorite depiction of him.

I meant V5 even though it is listed as V3.

I can't pick just one favorite, so I'm listing four. My personal faves are (in no particular order)

1. Captain Marvel
2. Black Adam (I love his hover animation. You can see his disdain for ordinary humans.)
3. Captain America Ultimate Cap 2
4. Luke Cage v3
Title: Re: Favorite ToyBox Toy?
Post by: GogglesPizanno on November 28, 2007, 03:55:56 PM
I like the green ones....

Actually its hard to pick. They are all so good.
There is something about the recent Cap meshes that somehow just capture the vibe of a "comic character" as opposed to a "video game character" I cant put my finger on it, but its there.

I will make an aside and single out those little animation touches you do on various characters (Namor, Vigilante etc...). Its those little things that really add character depth to your work.

Title: Re: Favorite ToyBox Toy?
Post by: HumanTon on November 28, 2007, 03:59:56 PM
Vigilante is amazing not just for the detail involved but in how the animations express the spirit behind the hero.

Course they all do that, which is what makes the Toybox such a great place!

Its really hard I love love love sooo many. Maybe Superman, Classic Cap and liberty belle but they're all so great it hard to definitively say. I'm playing  and I so often marvel at some cool small animation a stance, how they hit the ground and get up, a cool dodge or just how perfect they look for the character.
Title: Re: Favorite ToyBox Toy?

You ask hard questions, Ren.

I'd probably list as a top five (with *many* close seconds):

Superman
Captain America
Captain Marvel
Liberty Belle
Shining Knight

Boy, it's hard not to expand this list. The teen meshes are great, in part because my daughter wants me to make a teen team for her (she's almost eight, but likes playing with teen characters), so you've given me a lot of meshes to work with there (at least for male characters).

A hexed version of the Shining Knight very nearly became the mesh for the new version of my av. It came in a very close second to Grenadier's Black Knight, but BK had a cape (and I like the power-up animation for the character).

Thanks for all you've added to FF and the community. You've helped make the game that much more enjoyable.

As a connoisseur of fine Renegade Meshes...if you'll allow me....

Number One:

Liberty Belle. She's exquisite. Love the hair, the costume everything. There are very few perfect female meshes for FF(including the modeling, keyframes and skins)...but she's the one. Ink of course made some incredibly well haired meshes but alas...many of them have severe keyframe and hair synch something issues(at least in FFVTTR). Liberty Belle stands out because she is the perfect freedom force female mesh. The hair, the keyframes, the modeling....she's just fantastic. She is the grand slam in FF IMO. Extremely well done sir. I hope someday to see more female meshes from you.

After that you have varying degrees of well...excellence...it's really hard to choose. Obviously the effort you put into Vig shines through...pretty much all your Toybox meshes...you get the feeling you love every character you have made a mesh for at the Toybox. Almost all of them with their own unique little tweak to make them more than just an animated mesh. I guess if I have to pick the second best IMO, I go with the Ultraman Mesh...when he pulls that Kryptonite out(and as someone mentioned when you released it, I'd hate to know where he's stashing it when he's not holding it in his hands  ;)), it's just cool.

Shining Knight, Luke Cage, Cap and the already noted Vigilante deserve honorable mentions as well.

As does Captain Marvel....

And Superman...

And Superboy...

And....

Having thought about it a couple of days, i can't decide.  I can get enjoyment out of loading up any of your meshes into the character tool and running through the animations.  As the golden age Atom hasn't been mentioned, and because I have a soft spot for Al Pratt, I feel that those meshes really capture that character.  I also feel your THUNDER meshes are great too, again, because I have particular affection for those characters.

Superman is very good.  I love Captain America, so I suppose I somewhat biased toward that mesh.  I really think Vigilante is the best.  However, I do have a soft spot for Firebrand and his see-through shirt.

My Top 5 Renegade Meshes:

5. Sentry -- it's the flying animation, people! Sometimes, it's the little things...

4. Liberty Belle -- check out the cargo pants, folks! Sometimes, it's the little things...

3. Parasite -- check out how he throws his head back when he's leechin' power, folks? Sometimes, it's the little things...

2. Owlman -- when he slaps on the neural neutralizer, that just screams "Crime Syndicate," baby!

1. Vigilante -- Wow. Just...Wow.

I love 'em all, Ren. But if I have to pick, I'd say Hourman and Captain Marvel Junior, because they are favorite characters of mine, and the wonderful ankle-winged Namor. The Atoms are pretty sharp as well, as is Black Goliath.
Did anyone notice that Captain Marvel Junior, Mary and Cap aren't called "Marvel" at all on the new (and sharp) action figures. It's "Captain Junior," etc. I think it's sad that Marvel is so draconian about enforcing its trademark rights that it effectively steals the name from characters who had them long before.

Speaking of which, why aren't the Atom, Dr. Spectrum, The Ray, and some of the others that are in his Yahoo groups also in the TOYBOX? It truly wobbles the mind.

Well now... I like 'em all best!

Truly though, although so many of them show your great love of the characters (and astounding attention to the little details), I'd have to say it's MM.
I really enjoyed the use of modified Supes kf from your various Kal-El meshes.    Those keys really restore Mr. Jones as a powerhouse!  The defensive powers with phasing really blew me away! They still do.
Thanks for everything...but that one most of all.  I actually always thought J'onn was under-appreciated and mishandled, until along came your mesh to make him alive, and then the JL and JLU series actually made him a person!  No more Pinocchio Martians.  Hooray!

Sorry, I haven't slept much the past two days.
