Title: Anyone Interested in The Question Voice Pack from JLU?
Post by: sherlockemery on November 04, 2007, 12:09:16 AM
I've got my JLU dvds on the way, and really liked this character.  I'm thinking of creating a FF & FFVTR Voicepack, and would like to know if anyone else is interested...

Well,  perhaps only I DARE to ask the Question...   :D (expect that quote to be in there)

I will begin work when my JLU DVDs arrive.  Hopefully beginning of next week I should be done!

I also would be able to put together other soundpacks per request (wouldn't be done post haste, just when I get to it).

Hey Sherlock, the Question is one of my favorite characters, and I would really love to see a vp for him!  As a matter of fact, I was going to make one myself, but things have been too busy for me to get back to creating the packs.  If you're getting those JLU dvds, I'd recommend trying a few more as well.  We can always use more voicepacks!

Well, sure I could do more.  The Question was the character I enjoyed the most, but if requests are made....

They won't be done post haste, but in a timely fashion.

Well, let's see here....I wasn't really able to finish my Flash and Martian Manhunter packs, so if you want to add to them any, feel free.  The same goes for Wonder Woman.  I have a handful of samples for Green Arrow, but never was able to gather much for him, so he'd be a prime candidate, as would Huntress.  Booster Gold would be fantastic, and he's got an episode where he stars, so he'd PROBABLY have enough lines for a pack (likewise, a skeets pack could be awesome).  Those would probably be the easiest.  I was also planning on doing Hawkman and a few others, but I won't be heartbroken if you get to them first.  Great to have another voice pack maker!

It's almost done.  I just have to get the txt file complete.  I will then be happy to e-mail it out to anyone.

Update:

I'm having issues with the sounds playing.  I've got the directory set up right, but only one attack is playing...

I'm working the issue, but haven't done a VP in years...

Hmm...it could be any number of things.  I don't mean to point out the obvious, but it's easy to overlook the little things, so let me suggest some of the basics:  You've got the directory set up right, so the files are in the right place, but are the file paths correct in your speech.txt?  What's more, make sure that your voice ID isn't duplicating another, as that can cause all kinds of issues.  One of the fastest ways to tell is to search the VP ID list stickied above.  Remember, there's new voices in FF2.  That caused me all kinds of headaches when I first started doing my packs.  If you'd like to have someone look at it, send it my way, and I'll try and check it out.

If anyone is interested, I've solved the problem with this pack, and the Question now has a voice.

I would be interested in the version on youtube or at least one similar to it.  I like how it also uses Jeffery Combs' voice from his role in The Frighteners.

So does anyone have it already finished, like the one from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6nHMHWk_Ng  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6nHMHWk_Ng), or is that one lost/no longer working? If no one has it, is anyone working on it?

I don't think that is a complete voice pack, especially since they guy that made that video, Benton Grey, is also wanting that voice pack.

I only heard one clip and it sound to me like it is form the JLU.

(After checking, I did confirm that the voice of the Question from the JLU cartoons is Jeffery Combs and I'm still certain that the line comes from that and not the movie you referenced.)

One line does come from JLU, but the other one, "You're violating my territorial bubble," comes from The Frighteners.  THe JLU one is "We're asking questions someone doesn't want answered."

Okay, yes, this voicepack is complete, and yes, it is working now.  I straightened out some of the text references that were weird so all the lines should be playing audibly now.  My question is, should I release this pack?  Sherlockemery intended to release it once he finished troubleshooting it, so would it be acceptable for me to put it up on my yahoo group (without taking any credit for it), making it available to the several people who have requested it?

I wouldn't presume to tell you what is ethically acceptable in this situation, as I don't know Sherlockemery or how he would react.  If it were my work, however, I wouldn't mind you putting it up, so long as you gave credit to the author.

BG, I'd say, go ahead an post it, with the appropriate credit text, as well as very prominent text (in a readme, as well as in the Yahoo file description) that it will be taken down immediately if the creator has any issues at all with you hosting it.  I'd also send Sherlockemery an email at the same time, letting him know that you've got it to work, and that since you haven't heard back from him in a while, that you've hosted it for the people that have been waiting patiently for it.  Be sure to include what you've done about credit, and the option to take it down again, in the email.  I'm sure everything will be fine, anyway, but this way you've covered your bases, and should avoid any controversy.
