Title: Movie superheroes go green
Post by: catwhowalksbyhimself on November 01, 2007, 06:26:39 AM
It appears that scripts for Green Arrow, Green Hornet, and Green Lantern films are all being worked on.  And it looks like the current plans are for Hal to be the star of the Lantern movie.

This would also simplify the Justice League movie, as it would save them having to do much background if the solo movie came out first.  Even if it featured a different character, they wouldn't have to explain nearly as much.

I can see the GL movie being REALLY crappy unless they get a massive special effects budget.

I was just talking to UE yesterday about this and what I said was basically the same thing cat said except more expanded. I just can't help but think that doing a GL movie will be expensive just because of the special effects (same with JLA movie unless they stick with basic stuff and have him shielding every fight scene). In fact, the more I think about these live action movies, the more I think that perhaps certain movies ideas should just stick to the animated route. *ducks*

His actual powers would not be that hard to do.  Growing green projections would not that hard to render.

Now if they set it in space, then they'd need a lot of special effects.  And I'm sure they'd have a big budget anyway.

I'd rather see more superhero films made as animated features myself. A lot of superhero genre-specific conventions are probably more palatable to the general viewing public when translated into animation (costumes, for one thing, and most superpower demonstrations for that matter) as opposed to live-action. Execs only need look at The Incredibles or the recent Ninja Turtles movie to see that high-quality animated features featuring comics (and comics-inspired) characters can be commercially and critically successful.

If they can make a film were the strongest man on the planet wears his underpants on the outside, non of these guys' costume should be a problem.

Superman, just by having existed for so long, pretty much gets a pass on the costume by most people.  The vast majority of other heroes do not have the same luxury, and there are a lot that have far less practical or more garish costumes than his.
