Steampunk Superman for the 22nd Artistic Challenge.

I like it a lot. My only criticism is that it doesn't really say "steampunk" to me... the doodads looks sort of the high-tech armor designs that were popular during the mid-1990s. I was sort of thinking that a steampunk-themed suit would have more in the way of vents and exhaust pipes in a late 19th century Industrial Age motif.

For what it is, I absolutely love it. Class stuff.

But I'm afraid I have to agree with Zuludelta. Its lacking the 'steam' part of 'steampunk'. Nonetheless, it is awesome!

Felt compelled to draw a picture of Thunderhammer, the superman of Russia. This Cold War hero earned his reputation first against the Germans in WW2. He underwent extensive soviet experimentation which empowered him with electrical abilities that he used to defend his homeland. His abilities retarded his aging so that he appears 40 when he is in his eighties. He still clings to the communist dogma that he was raised under, seeing the still crumbling infrastructure of his country, he wishes for more prosperous times.

I like it... I guess my only nitpick would be the colour scheme... red, yellow, and black are the colours of the German Republic. If I had to make a guess as to the character's origin without knowing anything about his history, I would've said that he was from the former East Germany, a.k.a. The German Democratic Republic (the hammer and sickle + red, yellow, and black colour scheme = communist Germany). A more traditional USSR scheme would probably be dominated by red with some minor yellow highlights.

I love it. That would make one hell of a CoH toon.

Funny you should mention that...
Thunderhammer,level 22, Elec/elec brute, Pinnacle

ZD, I attempted to use the black simply as a tertiary colour, much like Superman or Batman's costumes sue of yellow (or more specifically like Fleischer Superman used black). I think the higher amounts of reg and yellow would leave him looking 'soviet' to more people than it wouldn't :)

i got a skin thats almost identical to this hero, in both powers and looks :P

edited: is he the same guy in the middle of your sig?

I have to agree that red and yellow combined remind most people of Russia than Germany. Actually, I didn't even know it symbolized anything other than Russia. The colors remind me of Colossus more than anything, and he's Russian.

As for the drawing..Whoa. The lines and colors look professional. Nice work!

I see what you mean. In this instance, however, I think the black areas dominate the torso too much (note that the tertiary colours in Batman's and Superman's costume are only in ancillary areas such as the belt or as minor contrastive touches on their insignia). One certainly doesn't come away from looking at Batman's classic costume thinking that his main colour scheme is gray, blue, and yellow... the yellow serves as a minor highlight. A little less black on the torso (similar to the CoH image you posted) would go a long way towards making it look "more Soviet." That's just my opinion, though, so feel free to ignore it  :).

It wasn't the yellow and red that sort of misled my eye FF... it was the addition of the strong black elements on the torso. The combination of colours and communist insignia are strongly reminiscent of East Germany's flag (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a1/Flag_of_East_Germany.svg/250px-Flag_of_East_Germany.svg.png).

To me, at least, it's the equivalent of using a red, white, and blue colour scheme (with stars) for an Australia or New Zealand-themed patriotic costume. The colours and symbols are definitely culture-appropriate, but there will always be a chance of confusing the viewer because of those colours' and symbols' association with the United States flag.

Then again, maybe I'm in the minority of the population who's familiar with the flags and patriotic colour symbology of other countries, so take my comments for what they're worth.

To bad this Sun God's D&D adventure will never see the light of day - The drawing looks cool & I love how the glowing effects are a little off center on the necklace making it seems like the necklace is alive - If i was a goblin in a dark dungeon & saw you walking around with that glowing jewl i would be inclined to want to steal it from you which would undoubtibly result in me being felled by your mighty hammer

I agree.  I also find the gun sound effect ("ZAP") coupled with the empty casings being ejected out of the chamber to be wryly funny . . . .

Nah it's not SHJ, just some unfortunate superhuman that got in my avatar's way.
And yes, i certainly do all my own colouring. Thanks for the comments guys, I am currently depriving myself of all games, PC or otherwise in an effort to draw more.

B&W start on an imagining of a certain sky bound hero in the future, as things might be. I'm looking to design a group of established characters from a certain fandom as they might appear some ten to fifteen years from when we last saw them if the future became bleaker than one would have imagined.
Taken me all day to get that much done...well all afternoon anyway, I spent the morning attending my graduation ceremony at University which bestowed a single piece of paper upon me for my many years hard work...seems a little lopsided TBH.
I think now that I am focusing on specifics more than before there is a real progression of ability in my work, and it makes me feel like I'm getting a little less rough around the edges, if not a little better.

Nice so far...even if he's not who i think he is...

And congrats on your piece of paper.   :P  (too bad it doesn't have 60,000,000 [local monetary units] printed on it...for immediate deposit)
:D  Or does it?

:yipee   okay, now back to drawing "darn it!"  I can't wait too long for another installment.  :)

:dmbbeer ...no wait...i have one  ;)

Of course it's who you think it is. Assuming you think it is who I think it is.

I can't wait to see the dwarf. He'd better be in there, Carr. This looks sweet, though.
